Now that all six of them know the stake of letting the serum fall into the wrong hands, they fear for the danger that might befall the human race. A few may survive, but more or less the others will serve as blood banks. Most likely, their plans will change eventually, from just staying low-key to vampire hunters. They may be vampires themselves, but they still have the thinking and emotions of a human. All memories from their childhood, all experiences, and all lessons learned as a human are still intact. Just because they have fangs and live for blood doesn't mean they don't have feelings or that they can't get hurt. Brainstorming for plans left them clueless about the culprits' actions at the moment.
"Dr. Harry, you said that the serum needs to be accurate. What's the chance of it being a failure?" Slacovich asks as he studies the chart Tyler made.
"Ahmm, the chances are high because Dr. Spencer doesn't know how Dr. Brischt prepared the formula for it. All I know is that once it fails, something like 005's condition might happen to that person." Even though Dr. Harry feels a bit relieved that he won't be killed, he still wants to be on guard.
"Can you stop calling us by code? We have names!" Ara starts raging again. Tyler makes sure she's not going to lay a hand on Dr. Harry.
"Calm down, Ara. It may be part of their protocols, one reason for them not to get attached to their subjects," Tyler explains. She tries her best to control herself, but it takes a bit longer than before to calm down.
"I'm sorry. It's not my intention to offend you by calling all of you by code. 006, no, I mean Tyler's right. I'm sorry if I've offended you." Dr. Harry looks down while trembling.
"It's alright. For now, let's go back to the matters at hand. If the mutation fails, then we don't have anything to worry about." Slacovich helps Tyler hold down Ara in her seat.
"NO! If it fails, it will be more trouble. It will rampage throughout the city. Out of control. More blood lust, more deaths, more victims. All sense of humanity within that person will be gone. That particular person will act like a predator who'll always seek prey. It will be unstoppable. That's what I fear most." Everyone is stunned by the information, especially Ara. She tears up and leaves the viewing room immediately, locking herself in her room. They know Ara has been acting strange; unlike them, she's struggling to think straight and control her temper. They must find a way to help her.
Ara sits in the corner crying. She doesn't want to be a failure. She fears that when she loses all sense of humanity in her, she might end up being a burden and cause them problems. Worst case, they might be forced to kill her. Before that happens, she thinks of the best solution. Well, for her, it's the only way. She heads to the weapons room, takes a gun with a magazine filled with silver bullets. The only place to commit this crime without anyone noticing will be the basement. She plans to take her own life rather than force her new family to suffer. She aims the gun at her head and pulls the trigger while crying. She falls down lifeless on the basement floor.
On the other hand, everyone is startled by the gunshot. They hurry toward the sound except for Dr. Harry, who doesn't even hear a thing. Being a vampire, their sense of hearing is more powerful than a human's. They see Ara's body lying lifeless on the floor. Tyler carries her immediately and lays her down on one of the beds in the lab room. Slacovich takes Dr. Harry to the lab as well to check on Ara. Tyler clenches his fists in a mix of guilt and sadness. He finds himself guilty for not following her the moment she left the room. Dr. Harry quickly wears a pair of gloves and asks Sofie to bring all the surgical knives.
"Dr. Harry, please do what you must to save her!" Li cries out loud. Everyone's worried about Ara's condition.
"She will survive this. The most fragile part of your body is the heart. I need to find a new source of the formula for the serum. I don't know if we can make it in time. She's slowly deteriorating by the moment. If this goes on, I'm afraid there's nothing I can do." Dr. Harry gently removes the silver bullet from her head.
"I'll check the facility's data for the formula." Li hurries to get her laptop and searches for files related to the serum.
"I'll go and check Dr. Brischt's room," Diego volunteers.
Dr. Harry manages to remove the bullet, but the healing process of Ara's wound is very slow. He presses the wound with a clean cloth to stop it from bleeding. Tyler's afraid that if they don't do something, she will die. Then a hint comes to mind. All of them were injected with the serum, which means their blood is a good source.
"Dr. Harry, if you let me, I have an idea, but I don't know if this will work. If we wait a little longer, I don't think Ara can make it. I don't want to lose her." Tyler grabs the scalpel and cuts his wrist. Ara seems to detect the scent of Tyler's blood and causes her body to move a bit.
"You can try it, and let's just hope for the best." Dr. Harry moves away and lets Tyler handle the rest. Tyler lets his blood drip onto Ara's lips. After a few drops, her mouth starts to open, taking every drop. She opens her eyes, red as blood, then buries her fangs into Tyler's wrist. She sucks to her heart's content, burying her fangs even deeper. Tyler's veins start popping out, his eyes red, and his fangs are out. This is his vampire form. All of them share the same appearance when they're in their vampire form. He kneels down feeling drained as Ara keeps drinking his blood. Slacovich grabs Ara from behind, making her stop draining Tyler's blood. He then puts her down on the bed as he hurries to Tyler's side.
"Dr. Harry, don't move. Stay as far away from Ara." Sofie changes into her vampire form just to be cautious. "Ara, are you okay?" She slowly walks toward her. Ara's gunshot wound is totally healed, leaving no sign at all. She calms down and returns to her human form. She feels refreshed and satisfied. Her eyes wander around the room, then down to Tyler. She gasps the moment she sees Tyler hurting on the floor.
"Tyler! I'm sorry. I didn't mean to drain you that much!" She cries, pulling Tyler to her side and giving him a tight hug.
"Are you dumb? This is nothing. I just need to rest for a bit and I'll be good as new." Tyler smiles, caressing her cheek.
"Thank you. Your blood is the key to regaining my sanity." She kisses Tyler's forehead and smiles back at him. She checks his wrist, but it's totally healed. She escorts him to his room and takes good care of him.
Dr. Harry takes note of everything that happened. He studies a few samples of Tyler's blood from the bedside. Slacovich is with him as well as Sofie. Diego reports that all documents in Dr. Brischt's hidden envelopes he found were empty, which only means Dr. Spencer took them with her. Dr. Harry's amazement at Tyler's DNA structure makes Slacovich curious, so Dr. Harry lets him take a look through the microscope.
"I think I know the reason why Ara recovered immediately the moment she took a taste of Tyler's blood. You see, Ara's DNA structure is weak because she lacks the amount of serum needed in her body. On the other hand, Tyler's DNA is far more active than hers. The excessive amount of serum in his body not only regenerates his heart but also boosts his healing process. His blood repaired Ara's weak spots and balances it. If you let me help you, I can determine each of your advantages according to your DNA structure. What's even more amazing is that Ara's DNA has the power to adapt itself depending on her form. I want to test this conclusion out if she's willing to. Now, we know Tyler and Ara's capabilities aside from just being vampires, they're capable of something else. If you give me samples of your blood, I can help you chart out each of your strengths." Dr. Harry explains, excitement filling his eyes. Slacovich is a bit taken aback.
"What makes you think we'll let you live?" He glares at him, trying to scare him away. But Dr. Harry's determination to help them is far more exposed than his fears.
"You can kill me anytime if you want me dead. You're facing a different issue here, whoever that person on the mainland has Dr. Spencer with him or her, Dr. Brischt's files, and the last vial of serum. If you want to put a stop to that person's evil plans, then you need me. I may not be like Dr. Brischt, but I've worked under his nose since the very beginning of this project. I can help enhance all of you, but I need all of you to cooperate. I assure you, I won't harm any of you even if it costs my life. I owe my life to you guys for letting me live. At least let me serve a purpose. I want to be of help. I can even donate my blood just to help all of you push through your craving periods." Dr. Harry lets out a deep breath as he stares back at Slacovich.
"He might be of help. I won't oppose this. But just make sure you don't do something unpleasant." Sofie smiles at him with a tone of threat in her voice.
"Let me talk to the rest about it. For the matter of the blood, you better start extracting some, put it in a blood bag, then give it to Tyler. He needs some, and you know it." Slacovich then turns his back.
"Why not just let him suck from my neck?" Dr. Harry follows him.
"How old are you?"
"32, I've been here since I was 27."
"You're old enough and smart enough to know the risk, right? Do you want to die immediately before you can even help us?"
"No."
"Even though Tyler can control himself, the fact that he's been drained may provoke his inner vampire self and kill you in the process. Just do as I say. Extract blood and put it in a blood bag. The facility is fully equipped, right? Just make sure to have it preserved if not used. Most importantly, just take some blood when you're feeling well. We're not forcing you on this one." They leave Dr. Harry alone, who feels glad that someone cares for his safety. They may not be humans now, but they're more human than the others in his eyes.
