"Monferno, circle it from the right! Houndoom, the left! Snorlax, charge it straight up the middle to take it's attention! Weavile, use your speed to employ hit and run tactics in it's blind spots! Milotic, both of you use long range attacks and support the others! Golem, use Rollout in place! Onix, you use Iron Tail on Golem and then try to seal it's movements with Bind and Wrap!" I quickly commanded while Regice just stood there across from us, menacingly.
At the same time I also tossed out Slowking's pokeball, having him appear beside me.
"I want you to stay by my side and watch this. These are the types of battles that we will be fighting in the future." I told him.
"King." He stated in acknowledgement before giving the ensuing battle his full attention.
"SNORE!" Snorlax roared as he charged directly at Regice, each footfall making the cavern tremble from his weight.
"Beep boop." Regice said as it registered the incoming threat, and cocked back it's arm as the temperature in the cavern dropped even more.
"Hammer Arm!" I ordered Snorlax, who met Regice's Ice Punch with his own attack.
"LAAAAAAAAAAX!" The jolly fatass roared as his fist met Regice's, generating an impact so strong that the strongest quake yet passed through the cave while the ground beneath them fractured and fragmented. And surprisingly, he managed to hold his ground even as frost covered most of his body.
"Either Snorlax is stronger than we thought, or...."
"Regice isn't as strong as Regirock. Physically that is." I told Lucario, my mind racing as I compared the two Legendaries.
Regirock was basically a walking tank, REALLY slow, but will take little to no damage as it approaches you and WILL rock your shit once it catches you. The ONLY reason Lucario 'won' their battle was because of him using Counter after tanking one of it's attacks, returning it onto Regirock with double it's own strength, and him using Reversal after taking so much damage.
Regice however was like Articuno, the slow killer. I could feel the temperature in here dropping even more as Regice became active, which would steadily sap our strength already, and I had no doubt that it possessed a plethora of ice type moves that would turn any or ALL of my pokemon into pokecicles at the drop of a hat. Which was part of why I decided to go with numbers while battling against it.
"GOL!" Golem roared as he tucked his arms and legs before spinning in place, carving out a small hole in the ice beneath him as he did so.
"OHHHHHN!" Onix roared this time as he swung his massive tail at Golem, using Iron Tail as he did so to turn the Megaton pokemon into a giant cannonball.
"GOOOOOOOLEEEEEEEEEEEEEM!" He roared as he shot across the cavern, where Regice was still being held in place by Snorlax.
*BOOM!*
The Iceberg pokemon was sent skating across the cavern from the force of the impact as Golem hit it, drawing it's attention away from Snorlax right as Houndoom and Monferno made their move.
"Houndoom, Let's do it!" I called out while kissing my ring and holding it up.
"DOOOOOOOOOOOOOM!"
Houndoom howled as he was enveloped in the light sphere of Mega Evolution, which then shattered to reveal his new form that radiated heat to combat Regice's cold while he summoned a mass of flames above him.
"NOW!" I roared, and Monferno spun into a powerful Flame Wheel, while Houndoom unleashed an insanely powerful Fire Blast.
"Huh...?" I uttered, as Regice countered the Flame Wheel with an Ice Punch, while completely ignoring the Fire Blast. But then I watched the flames visibly weaken long before they even touched Regice, before they vanished altogether just by touching it.
"Since when is fire weak against ice?" Lucario asked beside me.
"Its not..." I muttered while my mind tried to race with possibilities for why that happened. But Regice wasn't going to give me the luxury of time to think.
"Beep beep beep beep beep." It suddenly beeped rapidly, before tossing Monferno away right as eight massive spears of ice appeared in the air above it, each one aimed directly at the pokemon fighting it.
"Defend them!" I ordered Lucario, who promptly vanished before sending several Aura Spheres at the spears of ice.
*BOOM!*
*BOOM!*
*BOOM!*
Shards of ice rained down onto us as the Aura Spheres shattered the spears, which then led to Regice focusing it's attention onto Lucario over everyone else.
"Weavile!"
*SLASH!*
Before Regice could react, Weavile appeared behind it and slashed it with both sets of claws as she used the move Metal Claw, distracting it as Lucario moved away so the others could fight.
""MIL~!""
Both of my Milotic trilled as they reared their heads up and fired a powerful burst of boiling hot water at Regice. A move that SHOULD have done quite a bit of damage thanks to the high heat. But then again, so should have the Fire Blast.
Instead, I watched as the streams of boiling hot water instantly turned into steam before they even touched Regice, doing absolutely nothing to it other than putting more moisture in the air.
"King slow slow, Slowking." The Royal pokemon stated beside me, giving voice to what I was beginning to suspect.
"Yeah. It looks like only physical attacks are effective against it." I commented dryly, before pulling out two pokeballs.
"Milotic, return." I said while recalling the two beautiful pokemon, who both were NOT physical attackers like the others.
"Houndoom!" I called out to the Mega Evolved pokemon, who had just tried to use the move Incinerate. "Non-physical attacks won't work! You need to use moves like Flame Charge and Fire Fang!"
"Grrrrrrr."
I heard Houndoom growl as he bared his teeth in annoyance, even as he tucked his head and charged at Regice while flames coated his body. It was also a plus that, in his Mega Evolved form, Houndoom was covered in razor-sharp bone spikes.
"SNORLAAAAAAAX!" My jolly fatass roared as he charged Regice once more while using the move Giga Impact.
*BOOM!*
Regice was actually sent skating across the cavern from the impact, which also produced a shockwave so powerful that several pillars of ice began to fracture.
"Onix, Dig!" I ordered the serpentine king, who immediately burrowed into the icy ground while the others used the momentarily stunned Regice to deliver a flurry of attacks.
Snorlax was forced to recover for a moment after using Giga Impact, but Monferno was hammering Regice with moves like Fire Punch, Flame Wheel, and Mach Punch. Weavile was moving so fast that I couldn't even keep up, as she repeatedly slashed Regice with attacks like Metal Claw, Slash, and Night Slash in an attempt to chip away at it's icy body. Houndoom and Golem meanwhile were moving much slower than the previous two, but I hoped were doing significant damage as they used Flame Charge and Rollout respectively.
"BEEP BOP!" Regice suddenly exploded, blasting everyone with freezing cold air that sent them flying back to all corners of the cavern.
"Shit!" I swore while trying to form a barrier of aura in front of myself, only for Slowking to step forward and take the attack for me.
"Thanks..." I uttered, more than a little surprised.
"Slowking." He replied like it was only natural, before turning his attention back to the battle.
Or what was left of it.
In the midde of the cavern was Snorlax, who was completely encased in a massive pillar of ice and unmoving. On one side was Weavile, who laid crumpled in a heap on the floor after being slammed into the rocky walls. On the other was Monferno, who had just barely managed to avoid being frozen alongside Houndoom thanks to their own typing. But it was a close call.
"Beep." Regice said ominously as it turned it's attention towards them.
"GOOOOOOOOOL!"
Golem roared as he charged forward in another Rollout, which then transitioned into a Heavy Slam attack as he blindsided the Legendary.
*CRASH!*
Whatever Regice was about to do was interrupted as Golem knocked it off balance, only for Regice to turn around and punch him with it's full strength.
Thankfully, Regice wasn't as strong physically as Regirock, otherwise that attack might have actually killed Golem. But what DID happen was Golem being sent flying to the other side of the cavern and hitting the wall, before Regice followed up by using an Ice Beam so powerful that it added several more feet to the entire wall instead of just freezing Golem.
"ONIX, NOW!" I roared before Regice could do anything else, and the former king burst from the ground directly beneath Regice.
"!!!"
The Legendary pokemon didn't have the luxury of being surprised before Onix Wrapped himself around it, sealing it's movements as he squeezed it tightly.
"Monferno, hammer Regice with Mach Punch and Fire Punch attacks! Houndoom, try and thaw out Snorlax and Golem!" I ordered them while also recalling Weavile into her pokeball.
"DOOM!" Houndoom howled, before he began firing Incinerate attacks at the chunks of ice encasing my other pokemon. They were all weakened slightly by the close proximity to Regice, but still did their job as the ice began to visibly melt.
"Beeeeeeeeep." Regice said menacingly, as if it didn't even register the numerous hits it had taken from Monferno, before it produced a powerful explosion of pure cold that sent Onix and Monferno flying.
"Bop." It chimed next, before rapid firing two Ice Beams at the two of them to encase them both in ice.
"Fuck..." I swore, as Houndoom was quickly reduced to the last one standing.
"Now is it my turn?" Lucario asked as he seemingly prepared to battle as well.
"Not yet." I said, right as cracks began to spread throughout the ice that Snorlax was encased in.
*CRASH!*
"LAAAX!" Snorlax roared as he shattered the ice, before focusing his attention on Regice once more. Thank Arceus for the Thick Fat ability.
"What about YOU Onix?" I asked the king, right as he too shattered the ice surrounding him.
"OHHHHHHHHN!" He roared at Regice in challenge, before his entire body began to glow.
"Fuck yeah!" I exclaimed while pumping my fists victoriously, recalling as I did so the many nights I spent rubbing Onix down with the Metal Coat after his Soft Sand scrub, as well as when I ordered more Metal Coat to be delivered to the professor's lab for Daisy to use whenever she was looking after and grooming my pokemon.
I watched as Onix's body grew several feet taller, EASILY dwarfing even Brock's alpha Steelix, the boulders making up his body grew larger, and several of them grew elongated points while his head flattened like a thick plate of metal.
"STEEEEEEEEEEEEL!" My newly evolved Steelix roared as the light died down, before he immediately charged Regice for a full powered Double Edge attack. And since he had the Rock Head ability, there was no risk of the move dealing recoil damage to him as well.
"Bop beep." Regice beeped as both Steelix and Snorlax attacked it, giving it their all while Houndoom worked to free Golem and Monferno.
"What about you, Monferno?" I called out to my frozen monkey.
"Is that all your flames are capable of?" I asked him, while Regice sent Steelix reeling from another Ice Punch. Thankfully, Steelix was more resistant against ice type attacks now thanks to his evolution. But that didn't completely protect him from being sent crashing into the wall of the cavern.
"Are you just going to keep taking a nap while everyone else is giving it their all?" I asked as Snorlax traded several blows with the Legendary, though it was obvious that he was starting to get exhausted.
"We need you!" I called out to Monferno.
"!!!"
As if to respond to my voice, the pillar of ice encasing Monferno began to glow brightly before it exploded outwards to send hundreds of shards of ice flying. And then it was followed by a massive wave of heat.
"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAPE!"
A cry could be heard from within the swirling vortex of flames before they collapsed in on themselves, condensing to form the most powerful Flame Wheel I had ever seen.
"Is that Blaze..." Lucario asked in awe.
"It looks like it." I said while tensing slightly. After all, the last time Monferno activated Blaze, back when he was still a Chimchar, he tried to attack me.
But this time something was different.
*KABOOM!*
The impact made the whole cavern shudder as heat clashed with cold, and even Snorlax was forced to back away from Regice by several steps. But then, the cyclone of flames shot back from Regice and converged on top of one of the ice pillars.
"INFERNAAAAAAAAAAPE!" Screeched my fire monkey, though he looked VERY different than he had when he'd been frozen.
His entire upper body was covered in a jacket-like layer of white fur, while golden swirls of fur had appeared on his shoulders, knees, and the tops of his hands. And most eye-catching of all was the crown of flames that danced atop his head instead of his tail.
"Infernape..." I uttered in awe, both because of his power, and the fact that he had evolved once more despite only evolving into Monferno a few days ago.
"He hasn't lost control..." Lucario muttered in observation. And I was surprised to see that he was right.
Infernape's aura was flaring like a raging inferno, the crown of flames atop his head raged like he was going Super Saiyan, and his eyes were practically glowing red as he focused them on Regice.
"ARE YOU READY INFERNAPE?!"
"AAAAAAAAPE!"
Infernape screeched once more before he launched himself at Regice, his fists engulfed in a raging inferno as he brought them both down on top of Regice's head.
*KABOOM!*
Fire clashed with ice as Regice responded with Ice Punch, and shockingly, Infernape was able to match the output of Regice.
"The power of evolution is fueling him." Lucario stated as we observed the fight, and Infernape moved faster than I could follow as he delivered numerous attacks to Regice in rapid succession.
"But he can't keep this up for long." I said while analyzing his movements.
"Slowking, slow." Slowking said beside me in agreement.
It was well known that all pokemon capable of evolution experience a brief spike in power immediately after they evolved, which was currently boosting Infernape's attacks on top of Blaze. The problem was the damage Infernape had already accumulated until now, on top of the energy he already expended with what he was burning now. Even if he was able to match Regice blow for blow, he would quickly run out of energy at this rate and lose.
"STEEEEEEL!" Steelix roared as he too returned to the battle, swinging a powerful Iron Tail at Regice in time with Infernape's attacks.
"SNORLAX!" The jolly fatass declared as he too charged forward, ignoring both the flames from Infernape and icy winds produced by Regice since his Thick Fat ability protected him from both.
*CRASH!*
The ice wall covering Golem shattered suddenly, and the Megaton pokemon immediately charged back into action alongside Houndoom as the latter cloaked hismelf in fire for a Flame Charge.
"Let's go!" I told Lucario as we moved in closer to the battle. No matter what, it was nearing the end. And when this battle ended, we both needed to be ready to act.
*BOOM!*
*BOOM!*
*BOOM!*
One concussion after another rang out as each of my remaining pokemon gave it their all against the Legendary pokemon, each one refusing to go down unless they could bring it with them.
"Steelix, Iron Tail!"
"Infernape use Flame wheel!"
"Snorlax, Hammer Arm!"
"Flame Charge, Houndoom!"
"Use Stone Edge Golem!"
Altogether my pokemon worked to wittle Regice down and keep it from propoerly fighting back. Stone Edge to keep it's footing unstable, Flame Wheel and Flame Charge to combat the freezing wind and attacks it was using, and then Hammer Arm and Iron Tail to deal heavy damage to it.
"Keep it's attention off of me." I told Lucario before hurrying around to the backside of the Legendary pokemon, already reaching into my bag as I did so for an Ultra ball.
While I ran I noticed Lucario out of the corner of my eye, barking commands to the rest of my pokemon while also channeling his aura to get Regice to focus on him.
"Let's end this!" Lucario roared as he launched himself into the air for a High Jump Kick, planting his foot directly in the middle of Regice's body.
*BOOM!*
The force of the attack not only created several cracks in its body, but also sent it sliding back on the ice right to me as I chucked the Ultra ball at it.
"GO!" I yelled, even as Regice was sucked inside.
*Clack.*
The Ultra ball clattered as it hit the ground, where it rolled around for a minute while we all watched tensely.
*Ding.*
"!!!"
I felt my legs give out under me as it fell still, and gave the conclusive soft ding of capture.
"Holy shit..." I uttered while doing a mental tally. I now had TWO Legendary pokemon on my team.
"Pft..... BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" I laughed hysterically at the situation, even as the rest of my pokemon collapsed tiredly.
