Chapter 61 - Chapter Fifty Nine: Stories Of The Past

Lee and Clementine sat in his office. The room was quiet now. The hug still lingered in the air. Clementine kept looking at him, like she couldn't believe he was real.

Lee smiled gently.

Lee: You've grown up, Clem... You're not a little girl anymore.

Clementine gave a small smile, her eyes still a bit red from crying.

Clementine: You too... but something's different.

She leaned in closer.

Clementine: Your eyes... they look... red and I thought you had cut off one of your hand when you got bitten.

Lee nodded.

Lee: Yeah, I noticed that too. I think it happened after the bite. Maybe the infection changed something inside me. But I'm okay now.

He looked at his arm and moved it.

Lee: Alice made me this robotic arm... she's a genius.

He rolled up his sleeve and showed her the robotic one.

Lee: I woke up… and I wasn't a walker. I was weak and confused. But I survived. Then one day… I came across this mutated walker. It was fast, Clem. Like… faster than anything I've seen. I thought I was dead.

He paused, remembering.

Lee: Klaus found me. Saved me. He brought me to his home—an island, far from everything. It's called Navine. That's where I met his sister, Alice. She made me this arm.

Clementine touched the metal arm gently.

Clementine: That's crazy... but kinda cool.

Lee: Navine was peaceful for a while… but then it got overrun. Walkers everywhere. And not just regular ones. Klaus named one of them "Gorilla." It was huge, and fast too. I fought it. Barely made it out alive.

He leaned back in the chair and looked at the ceiling.

Lee: After that, we met more people—Ari, Aneka, Joe, Arthur... Good people. Fighters. Survivors. Just like you.

He paused, smiling a little.

Lee: And... I have a daughter now. Her name is Millicent.

Clementine blinked.

Clementine: You... have a daughter?

Lee: Yeah. She's not my blood, but she's mine. Just like you were, Clem.

Clementine's chest tightened. She looked down.

Clementine: I… I've been through a lot too.

Lee looked at her with soft eyes.

Lee: Tell me, Clem. What happened after... after I was gone?

She swallowed hard. Her hands started shaking a little.

Clementine: After I left you... I was with Omid and Christa for a while. We tried to stay together... but Omid got shot by a stupid teenager. It was so fast. One second he was smiling, and the next... he was gone.

Lee looked down, fists clenched.

Clementine: Christa and I kept going. She was broken after that. One day, we got separated. I never saw her again. I think she died.

Tears started falling down her cheeks again.

Clementine: Everyone I met after that… they all died. Luke, Nick, Sarah, Jane… even people I barely knew. They all kept dying.

She wiped her eyes.

Clementine: I met Kenny again, though.

Lee's eyes widened.

Lee: Kenny? He made it?

Clementine: For a while, yeah. He was different. Angrier. But he still cared. He helped me take care of AJ.

She smiled weakly.

Clementine: That's when I started looking after him… Alvin Jr., I made a promise to protect him. He became my reason to keep going.

Lee: You raised him?

Clementine: Yeah. I did my best. Taught him how to shoot. How to survive. Just like you taught me.

Lee reached out and held her hand.

Lee: I'm proud of you, Clementine. You kept going, even when it hurt.

Clementine: I had to. I wanted to be someone you'd be proud of. I wanted to keep your memory alive.

They sat there, hands held, not speaking for a moment.

Clementine: You think… Is it's finally over?

Lee: I don't know. But I know one thing for sure.

He looked into her eyes.

Lee: We're together now. And no matter what happens... we fight together.

Clementine nodded slowly, finally feeling something she hadn't felt in a long time.
