In the blink of an eye, the room expanded into an illusion of the place where Ciprian had taught Rowan to hate himself.
Pristine white marble replaced the dirt floor under his knees, and the walls that had begun to crumble transformed into rows of stone pillars. The dais that had elevated Ciprian above everyone and everything was in front of Rowan, but the chair from which the True Liar dispensed his poison was vacant.
Rowan's song faltered briefly as his mind scrambled to keep up with the sudden change, but he refused to let it go. The energy from Wren's pain still drained into him from the other side of the illusion like he wanted it to, but now that the Creature's energy had stolen into his head, Rowan's thoughts had begun to twist, in danger of distorting completely.
