When I woke the next morning, sunlight filtered through the curtains, soft and golden, warming my skin. For a moment, I didn't move. I just breathed in and out and listened to the slow rhythm of Jason's breathing beside me.
His arm was draped across my waist, holding me gently, protectively. His face was peaceful in sleep, and it almost made me forget that the world outside this room was full of secrets, danger, and a name I still didn't understand, Selena.
Almost.
I turned my head slightly, watching him, feeling the quiet weight of the choice I'd made last night to choose him. Choosing to stay. And I didn't regret it. Not for a second. But that didn't mean the questions had gone away. They just waited, quiet and patient, on the other side of the door.
My phone buzzed on the nightstand.
I reached for it carefully, not wanting to wake Jason. The screen lit up with a name I'd ignored for days now.
Jake.
What happened last night? why didn't you come?
