Chapter 15 - Chapter 15

Arc 2: Magic! YAY!

...

Vote some Power Stones!

...

--April 16th, 2015---

--New York City--

"Yawn..." I let out a yawn as I stood and stretched after waking up.

*crack*

Last night had been a bit uncomfortable for my back, but not as bad as I was expecting it to be.

I might even call it pleasant because of the fresh cold wind all night long.

Leaving that aside, after I had went to sleep I had once again woken up in the 'Bro-Cave' with my pets.

Other than playing around, we also had a talk. Specifically regarding the training of my powers.

I knew that I had already done more than enough progress for the two days that I had been here but to me, it still wasn't enough.

I only had 12 days left now until... Ultron began.

And I had to try and save people, while also preferably coming out of the other end alive.

But as I was right now, I would only be a liability on the field.

And there was a really easy solution to this problem too. That was going to Kamar-Taj.

But... I didn't want to do that, maybe it was my useless pride, but I didn't want to go there without having atleast some basic sense of my own power.

Afterall what would that make me? Just a useless nobody who got powers and wasn't able to use to them without another's help?

No, I refused to be like that.

First, I would make something of myself using my own hard work.

And then... I will only ask them for help when I absolutely needed to.

Sure, you could ridicule me for being so damn prideful despite having nothing to my name... But I would still stand by my decision.

And only I would shoulder it's consequences.

...

As the sun climbed up to the sky, I stepped out of McDonald's after eating my breakfast.

Because of the constant money spending, I had barely $20-$30 left and it was becoming a real worry to me. So today, one of my primary goal was to find a temporary source of income.

Now, if I was a 'normal' homeless man. I would either try to find a job as a construction worker or find a job as a trash collector.

But unfortunately, I didn't even have a valid ID proof. And I had heard some pretty horrid stories of how construction companies harrassed and blackmailed illegal immigrants.

So that option was out for the moment.

But yesterday, I had thought up a pretty good idea for an income (in my opinion).

That was-!

Drumrolls please!

-A street magician!

I thought it was perfect for me. I could work according to my own time while also training my powers.

I also did not need documentation of any kind to do this. So that was definitely a plus.

Now, I needed to be a little discreet. Afterall I didn't want people to find out that I have powers, but I merely wanted them to think that I was doing just some 'tricks' and was really, really good at them.

Of course, there was no guarantee of this working. But what was I going to loose even if it failed? Nothing.

Nothing but some time.

...

I was in Times Square now.

It was approximately... 10AM right now, and as always Times Square was bustling with people.

I had made a sign that I was wearing using a piece of string, a chart paper, and a marker. So that I could advertise this more easily, I guess?

I mean, it just felt like a right decision.

The sign read 'Magic Tricks For $1. If you don't like it, you don't have to pay!'.

Other than this, I had also bought a pack of cards from the grocery store.

And now, the only thing left to do was actually start the 'buisness'.

But first, I took a deep breath, I had never done anything like this before so I was, understandably, nervous.

Still, the underlying excitement of performing for so many people was just too exhilarating for me, even if it failed to achieve anything.

'I do hope that those Public Speaking lessons come in use now.'

So taking a deep breath, I started.

...

"Okay, so I want you select a card from this deck and don't show it to me." I said as I shuffled the cards and presented them to him in such a way that I wouldn't be able to see the other side of them (I couldn't see the side with the faces).

"Okay... This one." He says and chooses one after a pause.

"Now I want you to take out that card, and sign your name on it for me, alright Flash?" I said calmly, still not able to see any of the other side of the cards.

All around the two of us, a small crowd of people had already formed by now, some of them were recording and some were just watching. Almost all of them were here because of my previous magic 'tricks'.

I would be lying if I said that I wasn't nervous about being recorded, but I guessed it was for the greater good as I would get more customers the more popular I become (free advertising!).

As for my new customer, his name was Flash (he introduced himself). He looked to be around 13 or 14 years old. The special thing about him was that he had bet me that he would pay me $100 dollars if I managed to amaze him.

He looked like a rich kid (and I vaguely had feeling that I had seen him somewhere before), and he had an adult with him that agreed. So naturally, I had accepted.

"Done?" I asked and he nods. "Now I want you to put your card back in the deck and then shuffle it."

After he shuffles the deck, I ask. "Now give the deck to me."

"Okay now, is this your card?" I ask holding a Two of Hearts.

"No." He says with a confused face as if saying 'this isn't how it's supposed to go'.

All around us the crowd gasps and some even laugh.

Still proceeding calmly. "Okay, then is this your card?" I asked, now holding a King of Diamonds.

"No." He said still confused.

"Okay Flash." I said as the crowd continues to whisper among themselves. "Can you check your wallet for me Flash?" I say looking right into his eyes.

He gasps in realisation. "No way dude! No fricking way!" He says as he quickly checks his wallet to find-!

The crowd gasps in wonder.

-An Ace of Spades with his signature on it. Snugly resting besides his money.

I let out a satisfied smirk seeing everyone's reaction. Truly, the wonders of True Magic never cease to amaze people.

Of course, they don't know that this truly was Magic, but merely think that this was just petty tricks of hand.

Still as long as they're amazed, and money keeps flowing in, they could believe whatever the heck they wanted.

I had already managed to make somewhere around $400 dollars (including Flash's bet) in four hours just by doing this. Apparently, people can't seem to get enough of me and my magic.

And it wasn't that hard of a trick anyway, the only hard part was actually keeping the track of the card but by using a bit of Telekinesis I was able to do so easily, then just teleporting the card to his wallet in the front pocket of his shirt was a piece of cake.

Truly, those Public Speaking classes seemed to have paid off splendidly.

"You're awesome dude! Here take it." He says and hands me the $100.

"Alright folks! I guess that's it for today!" I announce once he happily leaves, to the crowd's displeasure.

But I was tired now, and needed some much needed rest, so they were going to have to suck it.

"If you're still here by then, I'll be here tomorrow too!" I said as the crowd dispersed and I left towards my next destination.

...

"388... 390... 395... 400... 405!" I laughed when I finished counting. 'No more money problems for me!' I thought happily.

It was rightfully astonishing to me that I had made such a big amount with just four hours of work.

Needless to say, this venture of mine was an resounding success!

Currently, I was back in a McDonald's (once again!) eating my lunch. I had purposefully chosen a relatively closed off table so I could count my money in peace.

And now that I had done so, I had to think of my next actions.

I was too tired to go and train right now. So that was a no-go currently.

'Hmm... Maybe start on copying powers?' I mused as the rubbed my chin in thought. My two pets also sent feelings of agreement.

It was a pretty non-physical activity and I just had to sit tight and wait.

I nodded after thinking for a few moments. 'Yes let's do that.'

But whom should I go after first?

My options were either Daredevil or Jessica Jones.

Spider-Man didn't exist yet (and probably wouldn't for a atleast a year), Iron Fist wasn't in New York (and I also did not know for sure if I could copy his powers), Fantastic Four also did not exist yet.

So Daredevil and Jessica Jones were the only super-people in New York that I could remember off the top of my head.

I also had the address of both of them (afterall, they ran a buisness and it was on Google). So I had to consider their powerset.

Matt Murdock, or Daredevil, had an incident when he was a child that led to him loosing his eyesight but gaining extraordinary super senses.

His power was useful, but it required intense training for a young Matt to control them to the degree he does now.

I would probably have to go through such training too if I wanted to control it. Of course, I would learn much faster but it would take time for it's practical use.

Jessica Jones on the other hand, her powers were a diamond in the rough as they say.

She gained her powers after a tragic accident where she and her family died. Then she was resurrected by some kind of secret organization using a super-serum which lead to her gaining powers.

Her powers were what they call 'a flying brick' as she had the basic super-physique with the ability to fly. Thus, a flying brick.

I was particularly attracted to her ability of flying. Afterall, it wasn't a common power and the ability to fly would always be useful.

Plus, I had always desired to fly like Superman (who wouldn't?).

With that, I had made my decision.

It was time to seek out Jessica Jones.

And Done!

Also please don't forget to give some Power Stones for this fic, it would bring in more people to read this if you do so.

And once again, see ya later!
