Chapter 97 - Chapter 97 - The Terror of Encountering a Werewolf.

[Chapter Size: 2000 Words.]

Third Person POV.

Riverrun.

...

...

Everyone looked toward the explosion as debris with planks and wooden pillars flew in all directions, along with the body of a large man being thrown far away.

The sound of the debris, along with the flames burning some of the houses, was the only thing that could be heard, mixed with some screams of lingering terror, but all the Lannister soldiers simply fell silent, stopping their looting.

The large body hit the ground several times before finally stopping at a distance with the wreckage, eventually coming to a halt more than 15 meters from the inn, lying on the ground like a limp, lifeless body.

"What is that...?" one of them muttered, stunned.

"That's Lord Clegane..." another soldier murmured.

"Did you hear that scream?! What was that... an animal?"

Suddenly, a new growl came from inside the inn with its entrance destroyed.

"Ahhh!" a desperate scream came from within.

"Monster!!"

"Help me... Ahhhhh!!!!"

Screams began to erupt as dozens of men stared at the place, unable to see what was really happening there due to the cloud of dust caused by the debris, only able to hear the men screaming and growling sounds mixed with the noise of flesh being torn apart — as if an animal were devouring them — something so sinister that everyone watching swallowed hard.

Then, someone emerged from the wreckage, running outside, a look of terror on his face, his clothes soaked in blood.

"Run, a monster! There's a monster in there!!" he shouted, trying to flee as fast as he could before a sound came from inside the place — an object, an axe over 130 cm long, came flying out, and the man couldn't do anything.

The axe hit him in the back, passing through his chest in an explosion of blood as he only groaned, dying in the next moment.

"AHH!" one of the soldiers looked on in horror as he saw his companion fall dead, the massive weapon embedded in his back.

Everyone who witnessed the scene swallowed hard, taking steps back and grabbing their weapons. Seeing the Mountain lying on the ground after an inexplicable explosion, and now this — a seemingly large and dangerous beast throwing an axe from inside the place and killing that man like he was nothing — terrified them like never before, making them ignore even the villagers fleeing from the very place they had just been killing and raping.

Then, the axe, which had markings on its blade with ancient rune designs, began to glow. The next moment, it suddenly shot out from the man's body, which reacted as the axe left him, leaning upward before collapsing again under gravity, the axe flying back inside, passing through the dust cloud of shattered wood.

While a new wave of fear gripped the outside, the children — a 15-year-old boy and his 12-year-old sister — after almost being abused and killed by Lannister men, having seen their father die like an animal, were huddled in a corner watching in fear.

The place was filled with the bodies of those same soldiers, their limbs torn off and scattered here and there, their chests pierced by that other thing now present, which caught the flying axe returning to it.

They didn't even fully understand what had happened — while the girl was about to be abused by the Mountain, that stranger had fired an arrow and dropped the bow just as the huge man ran toward him. The explosion followed, destroying the front of the place with a thunderous sound and strange shouted words.

Then suddenly, that white monster appeared, almost hitting the ceiling with its head, killing all the others.

But somehow, it left them alive, and it didn't seem to care about them — though what they felt at that moment, looking at the creature, was sheer terror.

The creature, without looking at them, began to walk out through the destroyed entrance while outside, they started to see the creature emerging, holding the enormous axe in its hand. Its red eyes quickly began staring at everyone there, and Jon could feel the fear upon seeing it — something he didn't even need to feel, because he could see the color drain from the faces of everyone who stared at it.

"W-what... is that?"

Even after hearing about the strange events with the monster in Kingsland, seeing that thing in front of them made them question whether what they were seeing was even real.

"Monster... that's a monster!"

"By the Seven... what is that thing?"

"That's a wolf... I heard Robb Stark can turn into a wolf in the middle of battle."

"We should run!"

"Hold—! Archer! Quickly, take that thing down!"

Someone tried to keep control of the situation immediately, taking the initiative to grab their bows.

The creature's eyes narrowed upon seeing that, while its claws gripped the axe tighter. It began to glow again with a magical light, and in the next moment, it started to freeze — forming a layer of ice, extending its blade from 50 cm to more than 1.5 meters of pure ice.

The soldiers, along with some villagers who couldn't escape, only saw the explosion of frost as the axe seemed to grow. None of them had ever seen ice before, so they didn't exactly know what that crystalline layer was — but they were terrified.

The werewolf then acted.

It advanced toward the first man, over 20 meters away, who was placing an arrow on his bow.

He didn't even have time to react.

The werewolf could wield the axe like a man — and sliced the man in half as blood exploded, the ice layer so fine it passed through armor, skin, and bone as if cutting paper.

The nearby men, upon seeing that, stared in horror and dropped their bows as they watched their companion being cleaved in two.

It paralyzed them — but it didn't matter to the werewolf.

Raising the axe, it began cutting down the other nearby men, splitting them in half with every swing. After all, what were men compared to a 3-meter-tall, wolf-shaped monster wielding a magical axe that had grown with a layer of ice?

"Stop that thing!!"

The same man who had ordered them to shoot earlier started running immediately, hoping his men would hold off the creature.

Some managed to shoot arrows, but the monster dodged them — leaping more than 10 meters, running across rooftops (even the burning ones), before jumping down onto more Lannister men.

Villagers who had remained — many of them wounded by those men's weapons — watched a massacre unfold as a trail of blood was left behind by that monster. Limbs and internal organs were scattered across the street as soldiers tried to flee, but were easily struck down, the creature leaping and running at an inhuman level.

The screams continued.

The werewolf didn't seem to leave anyone alive. After exterminating even that commander who had fled, it moved toward the other side where some Lannisters were escaping through the forest.

But they couldn't run for long.

The creature advanced, slicing through them — and the trees — as if nothing could stop the blade.

The Mountain was still lying on the ground, feeling a sharp pain all over his body.

Clearly, he had broken his arm and was likely covered in bruises. His butt still bled non-stop from the hole the arrow had made.

His teeth clenched in anger and pain as he finally tried to get up, not understanding what had happened.

His gaze rose from the ground as he struggled to see.

Some houses were still burning. People were running back and forth. And the ground was littered with bodies — all wearing the armor of his men.

He had initially been acting like a bandit, so he hadn't worn armor while pillaging villages and terrorizing the people — all to keep the lords of Riverrun divided, unsure whether to worry about Tywin Lannister's army entering the realm or deal with him while he spread terror through these lands.

But after Tywin moved toward Harrenhal, he received more men and armor, able to act in Tywin's name.

His last letter from the old lion was a demand: find a way to save Jaime Lannister after he was captured. That's why he was so close to the northern army in this region, trying to capture someone important — maybe even Robb Stark, the commander.

But what he hadn't expected was what was happening now.

He didn't understand anything.

The rage he felt toward the one who shot the arrow at him still burned, but his memories were blurry. He vaguely recalled that the man had stopped him with ease — even Mountain, at 2.1 meters tall, 20 cm taller than the stranger, had been easily thrown back.

The man had only smiled before hurling him toward the door and saying something incomprehensible. Whatever it was, it made his ears hurt to hear it — and then his body and the entrance wall exploded.

He had passed out for a short time and now woke up at this moment.

"Ahhh!! He's coming back!" someone shouted, pointing behind Gregor Clegane and trying to run away.

Heavy footsteps began approaching.

Mountain looked to the side, seeing a creature unlike anything he had ever seen — even taller than him, its eyes pure blood red, its fur stained with blood after slaughtering so many men.

Mountain was stunned — maybe for the first time in his life — and fear gleamed in his eyes.

He tried to crawl away.

He was a murderous monster, a rapist, and everything vile a man could be… but even he could feel fear of the unknown.

And that creature was something that, in his current state, he knew was dangerous.

The creature didn't care — in fact, it seemed to enjoy seeing him like that, and it was reflected in its eyes.

As it reached the man, it stretched out its arm, grabbed his legs, and lifted him with ease.

In the next moment, it simply threw Gregor Clegane against the wall of the house next to them. The crack of the impact echoed, followed by a groan as all the air left his lungs.

Mountain found himself cornered as a body was thrown beside him.

He tried to grab the fallen sword — and reached it — while the creature began to approach, seeming to toy with him.

"Ah!"

He began slashing at the air as he leaned against the same wall that had cracked under his own weight. His attempt was to somehow push the monster back — but it kept coming, closer and closer, seemingly smiling as it showed its monstrous teeth.

But the werewolf wasn't going to devour him.

After all, Jon didn't consume human flesh — even in his werewolf form, he only killed with his claws or, as in the earlier case, with his massive weapon.

He was like some kind of boss, massacring enemies — but not eating them.

That was because Jon didn't want to stop being human.

Devouring people in this form would be a path of no return. Besides, just his strength, speed, and endurance were enough to end most enemies.

Once close enough, he simply pulled his axe from the dimensional space, once again forming a layer of ice.

Mountain couldn't even react as the monster raised the weapon and struck downward — slicing through one of his legs, at the shin, below the knee — leaving him unable to walk again.

"AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!"

Mountain's scream echoed through the village like a dying animal.

The people of the village could only watch as the creature began to walk away, dragging the large man's body — now missing part of a leg — leaving behind a trail of blood.

The creature didn't kill him. It wanted him to suffer.

It only stopped to extinguish the fires consuming the houses.

Then, it returned to walking, with the man screaming and suffering, as it advanced toward the forest...

...and disappeared there.
