Chapter 99 - Chapter 99 - Final preparations.

[Chapter Size: 2300 Words.]

Third Person POV.

Riverrun.

...

...

Not even in their worst dreams, even after everything they had heard in the past moons, could they imagine that something like this could truly exist in the world. For as the rain began to fall in that forest in Riverrun, a thunderous force erupted in the midst of that place with the words of the man who stood before them, roaring like a furious thunder as the phonemes of those unknown words came out with pure power — an experience they could never claim to have had before.

The raindrops began to be quickly repelled by an inexplicable force pushing forward, scattering them into particles in the opposite direction, while the ground was being violently carved ahead as everything happened in slow motion to the eyes of the dragonborn, who kept opening his mouth, leaning forward, unleashing his power.

The men only watched that, their eyes slowly widening with a gleam of terror in the milliseconds as the force advanced, destroying everything in the clearing coming from Jon.

No one could have imagined that something like this truly existed.

Robb Stark could only open his eyes as he saw, in shock, his wolf — who stood in front of everyone — being thrown back like a doll as soon as the force caught him with the rain and dirt coming with it.

Then, the impact wave surged over his men whom he had sent and taken the initiative to advance toward Jon, dragging them along with their horses in the next moment. It didn't matter what was in the way: everything was flung backward instantly.

Robb, who stood beside the trees at the entrance of the clearing, was struck right after, unable to do anything but watch it coming toward him with water, rocks, soil, men, and horses. He and his horse were thrown far away along with the other soldiers as his world turned upside down, his eardrums nearly bursting from Jon's voice as he created the Shout.

'You must never use the Shouts against mortals, Dragonborn,' were the words of the Greybeards, echoing in Jon's mind at that moment, suddenly, as chaos unfolded before him, seeing everything flying away.

They had said that on High Hrothgar, the highest place in Skyrim, many years ago, as Jon still looked at the devastation that destroyed everything ahead of him in slow motion.

'I refuse,' Jon had answered at the time. The words came out of his own mouth, before the elders.

'You can't just use that power against mortals!' they protested.

'I will not deny the power that was granted to me. If I was born with it, I'll use it when I see fit — no matter who it's against,' Jon replied.

Even though he still held onto his morality and honor in battle, he did not hesitate to show his strength before his enemies when necessary. After all, he knew he would use that power, and he'd be a liar if he had agreed with those old men at the time.

"Then we can teach you nothing more. You are not welcome in our temple," said the elders, no longer allowing him entry into that place.

"Very well. I'm leaving," Jon said, walking away with his head held high, unconcerned with the help of those old men.

However, that ended up changing some time later. After all, the dragons had returned to Skyrim, and High Hrothgar was attacked by Alduin and the dragons he resurrected.

Only one Greybeard had survived, with the help of Paarthurnax, who had to get involved in the battle. Even so, their temple had been almost completely destroyed.

In the end, the last good Greybeard, along with Paarthurnax, sought the help of the Dragonborn, who was venturing through Skyrim killing the dragons attacking the cities and absorbing their souls, seeking new words of power to grow stronger.

However, Jon never needed to swear he wouldn't use the power. He simply didn't care. After all, that power was a part of him — and he would not deny it.

Although he never wanted to rule anything, Jon made everyone fear him, and that was enough. To all, he represented what it truly meant to be a Dragonborn.

Now, this was the proof of his power unfolding before him — this was his birthright — and before him, he saw men screaming and flying backward, their bones breaking with no chance to resist.

He saw Robb being hurled back like a doll like any other, carried away by everything that came with the devastating force.

Surprisingly, Jon raised one of his hands, pointing to Robb in those milliseconds before pulling him out of the full impact with telekinesis. After all, he had his own sense of morality and wouldn't kill a man like Robb, who shared his blood, in that way.

So Robb could barely remain conscious of what was happening, finding himself amidst the withdrawal of the entire shockwave devastating the area. All his fifty men had been hurled away, while Robb still saw everything spinning before crashing to the ground, shattered, as the destruction continued behind him.

The impact echoed through the forest for a while, as everything became a great cloud of smoke.

He had never used this Shout — one of the first words he had learned since becoming the Dragonborn — with such strength as he had just now.

Alone, he had devastated fifty men — among horse screams and terror, the entire area ahead of him had been torn apart, and when the force left the clearing, it began lifting even the trees and all kinds of vegetation along with the ground.

And when everything seemed calm in the next moment, Jon began walking slowly across the destroyed ground covered in debris.

Coughs began to be heard near him. Robb was trying to catch his breath, still stunned, feeling like he couldn't even speak at that moment. The thought of what had just happened tormented him, with fear replacing everything he previously had.

"What... by the gods, was that?" he murmured, shocked, before looking ahead, eyes widening upon seeing Jon there, standing and staring him down with the sword Ice planted into the ground before him.

Then the rain began to fall on them again at that moment.

He quickly tried to stand, groaning, with a cautious look, trying to back away, when he felt a sharp pain in his shoulder.

"You seem to have dislocated your shoulder. Which isn't surprising, considering you took the first part of the impact. Even after I pulled you out of the chaos, you were still luckier than your men... many died." Jon spoke with a dangerously calm voice, making Robb swallow hard.

He had never been so afraid of Jon as he was now, wondering deep down what that brother, missing for eight years, had become — maybe the monster everyone was starting to call him truly was real in the end.

"What... what are you?" he murmured, not knowing exactly what had just happened. But looking back and seeing the devastation, he couldn't deny it: he stood before something he couldn't handle. Something beyond his comprehension.

And, for some reason, he had been given a different fate than the other men.

"Does it matter now? You're lucky it's not the time for us to fight. Not yet," Jon replied coldly. "But if one day we meet again... if you survive this war in the south... I'll be in the north. Waiting. And I won't be so merciful anymore."

Jon spoke with a dangerous tone, and Robb stood there not knowing what to say.

Then, even with the dust still in the air, footsteps were heard, and an animal quickly began running toward them across the destroyed ground, as Grey Wind appeared, placing himself between Robb and Jon, growling at the latter. He stood with only three paws on the ground, one visibly injured — most likely broken.

"Grey Wind..." Robb murmured, seeing his loyal wolf still alive despite being wounded.

Jon merely looked at the wolf growling at him and shrugged.

"Take the men who survived the impact... and leave," Jon said simply, with indifference.

To him, none of that mattered anymore.

"Why are you doing all this?" Robb suddenly asked, watching Jon turn his back. "Do you hate us that much?"

He asked without that authoritative tone he once had, and without the conviction that he would arrest Jon. To see his half-brother turning his back on him after all of that was too humiliating. He didn't even seem like someone Jon would care about, even after his threats and accusations.

Jon then stopped, letting the rain hit him, and turned, looking at Robb from the side.

"Because I intend to have justice for my family. Not that I blame your father for what happened... But I have no love for any of you after everything. You know very well I didn't have a good relationship with you or the others. And that was thanks to your mother, who influenced you."

Jon continued, while Robb remained silent, watching Jon and Grey Wind before him, who still growled at Jon.

"But even so, we will become enemies. I'll do things that you lords of the North won't ignore in silence. I can understand that... but I won't stop acting, and we'll kill each other when that time comes."

Jon spoke in reference to his coming entry into the North with an army of the Free Folk. He knew very well how the kingdom would react to that.

"What do you mean by that?" Robb was lost. He didn't know exactly what Jon meant.

"I'm saying there's something in the North, beyond the Wall... and it's coming. But I don't have time to keep explaining it to you Southerners. That's why I say: if you survive this war and go to the North, there's no doubt we'll become enemies.

And maybe you won't have the same luck you had here, Robb Stark."

Jon said, taking a few more steps away.

While Robb remained there in silence, unsure how to respond after hearing all of that.

Jon then stored Ice back into his dimensional space, clearly intending to keep the sword. That would serve as a fitting humiliation for House Stark.

"One more thing."

Jon suddenly stopped once again, deciding to reveal something, looking into the still dazed and frightened eyes of Robb Stark.

"We were never brothers, but you didn't know that. I want you to tell your mother that everything that's about to happen carries the weight of her actions.

And I'll be avenging her... Not by taking Winterfell — after all, that was never my right — but tell her that my name, my true name, is Daemon Targaryen.

Son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen. Married through a secret ceremony, after Rhaegar's marriage to Elia was annulled."

Jon said, watching Robb's expression grow more shocked with every word.

"I am the true heir to the Iron Throne, in the end, Robb. And I'll be here to take what's mine."

With that, Jon simply walked away, disappearing from Robb's sight, who remained there, stunned.

He could still hear in the distance the screams of the men, especially those who had broken their legs from the impact. He knew many had died — after all, the way they were thrown, breaking one's neck would have been easy.

While Robb was still there, lost, not knowing how to react to everything he had heard, Jon had already moved away.

The distance between them grew, and hours passed as the rain kept falling.

It didn't take long for Winter to reach Jon.

The sound of her wings slicing the air made the ground tremble with each beat, shaking everything nearby with the impact.

The dragon stared at him, landing forcefully as a roar called her into the cave near where she landed.

Jon stepped out of a small cave where he had been taking shelter, looking up at the sky, reflecting for a moment.

"Should I end this storm now?" he murmured to himself.

But he ended up deciding to take advantage of the weather and go where he had intended.

He still had three objectives to accomplish before returning beyond the Wall: the seat of House Tully, the castle of House Clegane, and House Lorch — and finally, the Citadel.

There were important matters to resolve in those places before his final journey North.

Jon then tied the unconscious Gregor Clegane to the dragon's back, securing him in an improvised way just to ensure he wouldn't fall during the flight.

He was going to have an unforgettable experience — and scream a lot — in the skies.

Mounting Winter, Jon gave a slight command with his body.

The dragon rose between the trees and took off, gaining the skies even under the intense rain.

They flew for a long time until, still within the kingdom's borders, Jon spotted Riverrun in the distance.

It was at that moment that the Mountain awoke, swinging from his suspended body in the air, groaning before starting to scream.

Jon didn't want to draw attention and simply made him pass out again the next moment.

A moment later, he lowered the altitude, making Winter land near the seat of House Tully.

He would make sure that before leaving this place, they would be harmed enough in the name of Catelyn Stark's actions.

Even if it was, in part, a vengeful act, this was his way of showing that there was retaliation on his part for how that woman had treated him.

Jon dismounted the dragon as he looked toward the castle in the distance, lit by candles in the rain, while there was a large camp of men that Hoster Tully had summoned to aid Robb Stark in his campaign.

He would love to see Catelyn's face when she discovered what was about to happen to her family's finances and pride within their own seat.
