Chapter 256 - Gears of War End

[Mt Kadar Former Cog Research base]

The last research base made by the sins of the past.

Created by people that sought to create monster for a ancient war is now under the gaze of the Aquila.

A army swept through the icy mountain once more.

Leading them is a familiar face as he gaze upon the last vestige of the failed regime.

Alexander Tyrus watched his men followed after him. Their destination is one of the cog former research labs.

Sera is now free from the lambent pandemic, and with the Black legion presence gone, destroying the locust is the top priority.

Or that's what he told the public.

He informed the soldiers that there is one last war. The final war till the day is truly over.

Companies of Cog remnants and Imperium Guardsmen flooded sera once more. Scouring what cracks of resistance remains.

With space above Sera secured, the fleets of humanity stood strong, basked in the fires of war and sharpened by their treacherous brethren that fallen to chaos.

This was a period of healing...

This time, humanity pushed forward to eradicate the Locust that remained in hiding in hopes to wait for their queen.

Anything that was locust made is eradicated on the spot.

Marcus Fenix is leading one such companies to destroy the infestation.

His brutality towards the locust held no limits, as he killed them with the weapons made by the imperium.

To some of the cog soldiers that unable to reassure their normal life, after almost 14 years of constant combat, they joined these grub killers as a means to cope their PTSD. To make their illness assured that they truly killed every last one of these monsters.

And if they found the crystalized locust, they were sent to the sun for incineration. They would dig the dirt around the crystal cocoons if necessary.

Making the threat gone before it happens.

Alexander stood before a blast doors, leading to the facility inside.

He gave up pretenses and forcibly opened the gate, by pretending to the the one that the person waited inside.

The blast doors creaked open and dust was blasted out due to extreme pressure.

Among the nitrogen frozen corpses of locust and humans.

A moving television that housed a brain awaited before him.

"You are not the one I waited!" The Television screamed.

"Well, what can I say Niles, you deserve to die!" Alexander shot the brain, killing him off. Sending his aged brain across the floor. Ending the creator of the locust.

Scores of Techpriest and skiitari flooded the room, rushing past Alexander as they gathered all the things they find fancy, like a group of scavengers that found a treasure trove.

"I want everything catalogue, dismantled, then you can play with your new things! Kill anything that is not human! They are a blasphemous desires to the Machine god!"

The Techpriest gleefully took anything that they found fancy. Even ripping off bolted down consoles. The vats that held the sires that managed to be transported here was incinerated. Any locust that woke up from their frozen sleep was blasted by the plasma rifles of the guardians of mars.

The Guardsmen that followed behind, went towards the soldiers that was frozen and grabbed their dog tags and carried their remains. But the scientist remains were treated like dirt. Some even stomped the frozen scientist to pieces.

They respect the soldiers as they did their duty and were dead for so long, perhaps the surviving families would find closure of their fate.

Every documents, every plans, every data was collected. Any experimental creatures was destroyed. And their carcasses is dragged into ice boxes.

Alexander walked towards the first female locust.

Before him is a vast vat that held a giant locust that is the sized of a Astartes dreadnought, Alexander stood at the base of it.

The Matriarch the first behemoth of a female locust floated idly, awaiting command from the locust queen now long gone permanently.

He didn't care about the matriarch. He was pondering if he could gift it to Trazyn or just killed it outright. He raised a Necron containment device. As he pondering.

He tapped his tesseract labyrinth to ponder his actions. He shrugged and tossed to the vat that held the monster. In a green glowing light, the vat is now gone. Separating whatever queen Myrra influence on this world.

"Well, I hope old friend would enjoy my gift for him." He hums as he walked away as he observed the dismantling of the research base."

He stood outside as the base was scoured clean that even a guardsman took the blast door with him his company table. They began to take all the office supplies and some even dragged a wheelchair with a skeleton with it.

Several charges was placed and it exploded, making the dark history of Sera be forgotten from the face of the planet.

Even if there are someone that wants to uncover the remains in the near future, it is just a empty ice cave that had a collapse.

The life of Sera is harsh, due to Adam Fenix final weapon, it destroyed the vital components of the planet industry.

Imulsion was gone. And chaos left in its wake.

Destroying countless jobs and technology related to imulsion.

Any industry that needed imulsion collapse overnight.

It was destroyed to the last atoms of its existence due to radiation.

In saving humanity, it took away the potential of rebuilding Sera back.

They resorted to use resources outside of Serra. And other forms of power was made.

Oil that once drained, and natural gas, now gushed under the lands of imperium.

The industry is now used to the return of the fuel sources.

Plasma fueled vehicles is the norms as they travelled across Serra.

As oil is mainly used to make products like tires, Tupperware and clothes.

But with the existence of the imulsion gone, came with natural disasters.

As if the imulsion itself was the one controlling the weather.

But humanity managed to take the helm as the weather is managed around population centers.

After a while, things become normal again.

Marcus and Anya got married and held a small wedding in Anya hometown.

Most of Delta team, attended it and Alexander took his time off work to attending Marcus wedding.

Adam Fenix and Helena Stroud watched as their two children walked through the wedding aisle.

Adam Fenix is now just a civilian scientist working for the imperium. He is the research head to make use of imperium technology to allow the people of Sera to digest easier.

While Helena, is now attending her daughter wedding taking time off from working as a combat instructor. Both of them were friends and belonged to the Royal Tyran infantry.

"What are you waiting for Adam?" Helena spoke.

"I rather keep my words."

"There will no be a next time, if you just stayed silent, that the reason why your son is so distant towards you. Go and tell him what you truly feel." Helena patted Adam shoulder.

As the groom and bride reached the aisle.

For the first time, Marcus saw his father smiled. Throughout his life, he searched for his father affections.

"I am so proud of you son." The man hugged his son... Perhaps for a long time, Marcus wanted it the most.

"Thanks dad."

As the priest made their vows under a twin headed aquila.

"Would the groom, Marcus Fenix, under the Eyes of the Holy Emperor, give your life to your spouse, to defend your home and family? Till the end of time and death?"

"I do." Marcus briskly spoke.

"And you, the bride, Anya Stroud, Under the eyes of the Holy emperor, Give your commitment to your husband, to be his warmth and healing? In sickness and in health, till death do you apart?"

Her smile stunned Marcus for a bit.

"I do."

The priest finished his verse. And dozens of doves flew out of the cathedral.

"By the power vested in me and the Eyes of the God Emperor, And the Ecclesiachy of the ordered rose, I pronounce you Husband and wife!"

Marcus smiled as he gave Anya a kiss.

As they made their way to their honeymoon getaway vehicle, Anya tossed her bouquet of flower and it landed to a unlikely couple.

"Ohh, Baird... Seemed like fate is with us today." Sam smiled as the man next to her groaned.

"I telling you, we are not that compatible!"

"Oh, little teddy bear... I wonder if you say about that." Sam eyes twinkle.

Next month, Sam declared that she gotten Baird Married to her. Even Alexander spat his recaff on how fast they shack up.

Everyone is shocked, as no one expected them to get along.

But days gone by, the wounds became scars...

The war seemed like a distant memory.

Everyone related to delta gone their separated ways.

Hoffman retired from the military and he got married to Bernie, and helped with the farm.

Baird and Sam made a company that offer automatons and prosthetics. And Sam called Baird, "Honey buns" to tease the man.

Benjamin and Anthony remained in the military and helped their family business by introducing the soldiers with the health insurance. And picking on Gary Carmine when they have the time.

Clayton stayed in the army, teaching the recuits, and he was fondly called the Grub killer. And the first that killed a Chaos Marine with his bare hands. Seeing that he survived the battle of Azura.

Tai, returned to his tribe and became a chieftain that held cordial relations to the imperium.

Augustus Cole, he became a mayor of Hanover and people loved him. He always played trashball. And in his time as a Manager of the Cougars.

Jace? He is in the guard for relief efforts and getting close to the people.

Anya Stroud, became the Planetary governor of Serra. Or the first Chairperson as she like to called it. She and Marcus had trouble having children as the stress of war impacted her health, until they contacted Alexander to give her the medical technology that she bore a son and remain healthy.

Paduk and Sophia traveling around the world. Since Gorasnaya and her people ventured to space, some stayed behind. Remembering fondly of their homeland.

Dominic Santiago, became a farmer and owned a Farm next to Marcus Estate. His wife and children arrived 4 months after the war ended. He always bring his family to eat with Marcus as if being brothers was normal for them.

And Marcus and Dom arrived to a graveyard.

Now a bit aged. A couple of streaks of grey hair and more wrinkles etched upon their faces.

Before them laid a tombstone.

It was a image of Carlos Santiago looking fondly as it face the New Capital of Serra.

The remains was unable to found in that fateful day, as it was a empty tomb, but the sentiment is still there.

"Carlos Santiago.

Died in Mercy.

The light of Delta

The brother we had."

Marcus held out his carton of beer tossed one to Dom.

There was a brief crackling of the beer.

Marcus and Dom knelt down as they rested beside the tombstone.

"Remember Carlos, when we first met?" Marcus first spoke. As if remembering something long ago.

"When at the start of the school year, you were the first that approached me and tried to understand me."

"I really didn't have proper interactions with people, but you took your time to talk."

"You treated me more like a brother I never had. Staying at your house with Dom was the best moments I had in my life." Marcus raised his beer to the skies.

"I had a son, his name is James Carlos Fenix. I am not much of a sentimental guy as I named his middle name after you, but looking at my son, made me happy about his future. Dom and Alexander is his god fathers... How life is really that funny."

Dom raised his beer towards the sky.

"To my brother that helped us along the way. You were the light of our group. Thank you, my wife back a few years ago, like she didn't aged a day. My children still remember you, brother.

"Where is uncle Carlos." Was the words they said. It broke my heart to tell them that you gone away for a long time." Dom laughed as his tears wept down.

Marcus patted Dom shoulders.

"Brother... May you witness the world that you helped build."

Marcus and Dom stood up and gave a salute of the Cog and exited the graveyard.

Alexander awaited them, looking the same as they first met. He held Prescott golden watch as if counting the time.

Alexander after handing the reins to Anya as a planetary governor of Serra, he disappeared from the limelight. And work as a Business mogul.

He created business for the people as the planet is healing.

He knew if one control the economy and the faith, doesn't matter if the new government defy him.

Because the people all knew he was the de factor leader of Serra.

"You done?"

"Alexander, is it true? That my brother is in heaven?" Dom asked.

"I assure you. Yes Dom, he is in good hands."

"I thought that you always said that you are not a god?"

"Nah, I am not a god... But I know someone that is... A personal hotline of sorts."

"Will I meet him again?"

That question made Alexander paused.

"Yes, when you lived your life to the fullest." Alexander said honestly.

"Come now, we better get back before your families is worried where you two been up to. It's late now." Alexander smiled as he escorted the two from the premises.

He looked back at the statue of Carlos and smiled.

"I hope you are living properly in heaven old friend. I will take care of them... As I kept my promise to you."

As the sun set the shadows of the trio began to grow.

And in the middle of the trio, a Shadow of a person with wings and a halo following behind them as if covering for them.
