Chapter 130 - End of Chapter 44

She scoffed at the nickname, tried to ignore the fact that everyone knew she'd fucked Dante. "Bullshit."

"Keeping watch on anyone takes a toll on Levi and Kieran. They watch you not because they want to, but because their Alphas say they have to. You exist in their minds even when they sleep," Dante murmured. "I suppose it is the same for Halcyon, although his is animal instinct. You'll have to discipline his Alpha." He paused to contemplate. "Or I could take care of him for you."

"I'm not flattered," Rue said, but her cheeks were flushed. She ignored him, ignored the thoughts that flew into her head. Halcyon being spanked by Dante in their bedroom. His face was flushed; his cock rock hard. And Dante leaning back in a pressed shirt rolled up to his forearm, a dangerous smile on his lips, long fingers in the air, wet and sticky. "I think that's delusional."

"I thought it was fucking insane," Dante told her. "My mates, going crazy for a mere stranger."

"Stranger? It's not because I'm an Omega?" Rue pointed out. "You were all over it when I was a goddamn Alpha."

Dante made a face, a shrug on his shoulders. "An Omega would be difficult to care for. For Espers like us, for an Alpha like I am, it can be like fornicating with a being made of bubbles."

"But I could be stronger than you," Rue snapped. "I am."

"You are," Dante agreed, his brows furrowed. Slowly, he locked his gaze with hers. "Darling, I wonder how and why." Her heart pounded then, body tensing at his query. His lips quirked then, the corners growing into a soft grin. "But I'd say we're equals. You did use my powers. But you wouldn't have them if I wasn't there, which also makes you weak." Rue blinked back at him. But he turned away, deep in thought, eyes distant. "Do you think you could do it to everyone you meet?"

She shuddered. "Please don't think of experimenting on me."

"I won't hurt you," Dante sighed, a low chuckle escaping his lips. "Your pain is mine," he admitted, a growl in his words. "Your suffering is mine. How or why, I do not know yet, but I suppose there are some merits to Seraphim's visions."

"Right, a fucking baby—" Her eyes widened then, darted to his. "You do know that the pull-out method's not foolproof, right?"

Dante raised a brow, voice clipped. "You're not pregnant."

She blanched, going pale. "How would you know—"

"Zeus need to feel love for their mates when they fuck an Omega to create a child. Our pack needs to be in the room for that to happen. When I fucked you, I was not thinking of my soulmates," Dante answered simply, made a face as if repulsed. But there was tease in his eyes. "I was only thinking of you."

"Oh, fuck off," Rue groaned, but her heart raced in panic. "That's bullshit right?"

They made a turn, and Dante slammed her against the wall, body pressing her against the sticky inky dribble, arms caging her in. Rue was startled, air rushing from her lungs in a quick whoosh, silenced by his palm to her face. But the look in his eyes was all she needed to know; his lips pressed into a thin line. Keep quiet, his eyes said. Something is coming this way. He turned his head towards the open hallway, straining his ears to listen.

The Lonely.

Her heart raced, soared as panic flooded her veins. She could hear it now as it scuttled closer. And in the distance there was an echo of pain from the monster. A single haunting wail that had her shivering with anticipation for the battle. Dante bared his teeth, a silent curse on his tongue. He clenched his fist, a silent command made to her.

Stay here. Don't move.

"My queen," it cried. "My queen." The being was coming closer, rattling as it ran. A strange wail rippled from its throat, pitched into a roar. "My queen." Rue gestured towards Dante; her head jerked towards the monster.

I could kill it with you, she signed, her fingers jerked across her throat, a tremble in her fingers. I did it before, I could do it again.

Nonsense, Dante replied, shaking his head firmly.

She pointed to his neck wound, making a face, mouthing the words. You're not going to win without me.

Dante pointed to himself two times. Then raised a finger to stab at her chest, disapproval hot in his eyes. You. He pointed to the ground, jabbed downwards. Stay. His eyes sparked a menacing blue, glare deepening. His muscles were tensed with restraint, body rippling with a growing power.

Rue squinted at his answer, a scowl on her face. She tried to shake her head, but he caught her chin. And suddenly her breath hitched as he pressed closer, his feet shuffling her back against the wall. One arm caging her in. His thumb tilted her head up to meet his. His lips were now just inches away from hers, sweet breath fanning over her face. What the fuck was he doing? No? At this fucking time? She tried to struggle, but he held her down, forcing her to look at him.

And she did.

Rue could see his eyes now, eerily black, shimmering softly in the dark, a glint that revealed the endless darkness. And the heat in it bewildered her—smouldering and almost burning her alive. His pupils had eclipsed his irises completely, a feral look growing in its depths. His tongue darted, ran over drying lips, gaze sweeping over her face as if desperate for more. There was hunger in him, hunger that remained, hunger that terrified and thrilled her.

Hunger that wanted to ravage her again and again.

Her eyes widened; her mouth parted in shock. Her heart soared, yearning. Her body felt as if it were swirling, her cheeks were flushed, enraged and aroused. And when his lips met hers lightly, her back thumped against the rock.

She allowed him to tip her head back, allowed his thumb to brush the column of her throat. His knee dug between her legs, thigh resting lightly against her quivering cunt. And her legs weakened from the growing, pulsating weight of her desire despite the situation. Seconds were all he needed to get her to become a melting mess. And he smiled against her mouth, a groan sending tremors down her spine. Her clit throbbed.

"Thank you."

In one sharp move, Dante pulled away, stepping back into the hallway, electricity crackling in the air, the sound of a thousand birds shattering the space. There was a ripple in the air, a roaring as blue light consumed him. And he turned, swivelling out of view. A snap and the sound of an explosion rippled through the halls. A maelstrom swept ash all over the hallway.

Rue gasped, a moment was spent to find her footing, and then she leaned out to look, fear twitching through her veins as she moved, ready to take over, ready to fight. The fucking idiot had her guiding him seconds before the goddamn battle. Fear pulsed in her throat.

The Lonely was already on the ground, twitching with the beginnings of death. Its shell was gone, and what had appeared to be insect's eyes was now replaced by the ghost of a face that she had seen. A man with skin and hair as white as snow stared back at Dante with solid gold eyes. It trembled, wounds weeping with ink, clearly dying from the ashy charred remains of what remained of its lower half.

Dante had a hand pierced through the monster's chest, surprise sharp in his features. Clearly he hadn't known of the man in the monster. And the monster should be dead, with his body so badly deformed from the battle. And yet he began to speak, moaning out through bubbling ink in a low voice.

"Drone," he croaked to Dante. "Where is your queen bee?"
