"Do you have the newcomer yet?" asked a feminine voice filled with worry and concern.
"Got him…Let's go!" Said a man, deep voiced and commanding.
These voices were the first thing that greeted my senses and moments later I felt myself lifted onto a shoulder like a sack of potatoes. My vision started to clear but what I saw behind me I dared not believe. Demons? I rubbed my eyes to make sure I wasn't seeing things, sure enough we were running away from demons. I looked around at my current surroundings, what I saw looked like a temple, a ruined temple to be more precise. We all took shelter behind a tall, ruined sone; the man put me down.
"Are you able to keep up?" Asked the man, his voice was full of genuine concern, like he truly cared about my well-being.
Taking a moment to gain my bearings I stand and nod. We all made a mad dash towards our destination, but we were stopped abruptly.
"There's too many of them and they have us surrounded."
"What can we do? I don't want it to end this way."
Their voices were full of fear and anger, two people I barely knew were risking their very lives for me. But why? Why was I important? Most importantly what could I do? I had no form of experience for battle. Time seemed to slow down as I looked around me. The overwhelming number of enemies were getting closer. Everything I was seeing and hearing was overwhelming, and I felt useless, unable to help. I was about ready to give up and surrender. At that moment, I felt something warm on my neck. It was a necklace. How strange…I don't remember ever having this on me when I arrived. The charm in the middle was in the shape of a dragon taking flight, in the center of the charm was a beautiful red gem. Holding this in my hand, I felt the odd desire to call upon whatever presence lay within. Question was how was I to summon this unknown presence? Suddenly I heard a whisper in my head saying the words "To what lies within, I humbly ask for my protection and my allies."
The gem shined brightly which made the warmth I felt earlier increase slightly. An anthro female dragon seemed to have appeared straight from the gem. There she stood, tall and graceful. Her scales were crimson, so were her wings, her tail, even her horns. Her eyes fell upon the enemy and she drew her sword. With a speed that should be considered impossible she effortlessly sliced through and eliminated all the demons. When she finished, she sheathed her sword in a graceful manner, and turned towards me. What happened next took me by surprise, she looked at me with a kind and warm smile, like she was seeing an old friend.
"Do you require further assistance Master?"
I couldn't believe what I heard, this mighty dragon was talking to me? More questions raced through my mind, but we were in danger, so I had to push them aside. Breaking out of my trance, I found my voice. "No, these two people." I gesture to the man and woman besides me. "Are leading me to what I assume is a base of some sort, we'd all like to get there in one piece."
She nods and provides cover for us along the way. Surprisingly we don't deal with any more enemies and reach the base safe and sound. Upon entering the building, the dragon was still with us. "Have I fulfilled my job may rest Master?"
Was she seriously asking me for permission to rest? "Yes, and thank you"
In mere seconds I saw the dragon retreat into the gem. Moments later I heard her voice in my mind. "My name is Furah, if you ever require further assistance do not hesitate to call me through your mind. Think of me and I will be there for you."
Feeling satisfied with this information, I am about to relax when the man from earlier approaches me. Just by the look on his face he is going to get straight to the point. "What is your name and how do you happen to have one of the elemental dragon girls?" His voice is stern.
Both of these were good questions but I didn't have a name, at least not one that I remember, so I decided to give him one. "My name is Zander sir and I have no idea."
Something about this man made me want to call him sir, maybe it was because of how much authority he had. He sighs heavily clearly not linking this answer, but it was better than nothing. After a moment of silence I decided to ask a question of my own.
"If you do not mind me asking sir, where am I?"
He sighs before sitting down. "You are in Dragon Spire."
He then told me about the world and everyone that's in it and of a prophecy. The prophecy talks about six heroes who are destined to defeat the demon king and queen. I didn't find it surprising that the demons and other evil individuals of the world wanted to make sure that the prophecy never came true. After a moment I yawned, clearly growing tired after the long day. The man shook his head with a smile on his face and leads me to a room.
"You may rest here, you have another big day tomorrow."
With that said, I entered the room and lay down on the bed. I couldn't believe how much pressure was just thrust into my hands, but for now I pushed it to the side and closed my eyes…
I then am in my room taking off my VR headset and say "woah, almost forgot this was just a vr game, I need to rest a little though" I return back on my bed and close my eyes drifting off into sleep.
