She peered down into the hole, the dim light from below doing little to reassure her. "Okay, think, Michelle. How are you supposed to get down there now?" She glanced around for something—anything—that could serve as a makeshift ladder, but the barren construction site offered no help.
Sighing in defeat, she knelt by the edge of the hole. "Guess it's up to me." Gripping the rim tightly, she lowered her legs into the void, her feet dangling as she muttered encouragement to herself. "You've got this. You're a strong, independent woman who does not need a moody superhero to—ahhh!"
Michelle let go before she could psych herself out any further, dropping into the passageway below with an unceremonious thud. She landed on her backside, wincing from the impact, but quickly checked herself over.
"Still alive," she muttered before smiling victoriously. "Nailed it!"
