Chapter 22 - Runes

In the world of Diablo III there were these things called runes.

And these runes contained strange powers within them that unleashed themselves when certain conditions were met.

These runes usually appeared from various elite creatures strong enough to deserve a name amongst their weaker kind.

That's not to say that all monsters above a certain threshold of strength could drop runes as they only seemed to appear from monsters with strength above their peers.

The manner of which that they appeared from the corpses was still to be experimented upon as they seemed to have appeared out of thin air and engraved themselves onto any nearby objects.

But because of their rather sporadic frequency of appearance not much research has been done on them and their magic remains a mystery to this day.

And now, Slade himself has finally got his hands on one.

'So this is the Roar rune huh?'

Staring at the stone slate depicting a strange almost primal carving on it, the sharp edges of the stone didn't deter him as he read its information

[When you block with hardened sense active, you have a chance to explode with fury, dealing damage to nearby enemies]

'So basically with hardened senses, when I block I explode huh? Neat'

Picking up the rune, without any other outside interference, the rune immediately melded into his body and now he could tell that something foreign was resting in it.

'...God that's giving me PTSD'

Recalling horrible memories of a time where his stomach contained a parasite from terrible food he shivered.

'But at the least, roar makes it so that I explode whenever I use that skill though.'

Immediately assigning it to the Punish skill so that his chances of survival gets higher, Slade followed the mentality of survival is king to the tee.

Better to maintain a human appearance after battle than a vaguely human one.

So moving on, Slade's ears twitched as the large cauldron in the middle of the room bubbled and crackled releasing red sparks as one of them landed on his body.

'OH SHIttt?'

Now following general logic and lots of chemistry class reminders, Slade instantly reacted and tried to swipe off the substance off of his body.

But instead of burning his wounds the unknown substance the cauldron no doubt contained, it instead caused a dull warmth to travel through his body.

A dull warmth but warmth nonetheless, Staring at the part that the Red Spark touched, with keen eyes and knowledge of his own body, Slade noted one thing.

That cauldron was definitely filled with health potion.

'...'

'Morgello'

Immediately dumping his upper half into the potion on a sudden whim, it was sadly at the same moment that he caught movement at the edges of his vision.

'Oh yeah, I forgot she was up there.'

"Crusader?!"

---

After explaining everything including his own seemingly suicidal actions of dumping himself in a boiling pot.

Leah was left pondering.

"I knew that there were rumors that my aunt was a witch but I didn't believe them."

She glanced at the cave walls marked with blood markings and bone carvings.

"But what else could she be when there is a cave containing the captains corpse? In such a terrible state no less..."

Sadly looking over the body of Captain Daltyn which had been mangled beyond recognition Slade lightly coughed to himself as he was the one that had mangled his corpse.

But seemingly agreeing to not mention that fact, Slade observed his cave like surroundings.

With stalactites coming from the seeling and dripping into the ground to create their grounded brethren of stalagmites, bones decorated said stone spikes dotted around the cave.

And with a cold wind blowing in the cave, the general aura of the cave itself was quite... eery..?

Now that he thought about it, where was that cold breeze coming from?

Ignoring Leah who was lamenting the guard captain and his guards fate, Slade lightly tasted the air.

Plucking a piece of hair from his cranium, the black hair strand wavered in the air as Leah started to move their corpses towards the wall.

And upon dropping it, the piece of hair swept towards the left of him, towards the place that they had entered.

'So its this way.'

Lightly stepping across the ground as to not disturb Leah's quiet mourning and prayer for the guards as she draped their bodies with cloth.

Lightly stepping away from her, Slade slowly made his way to the wind blowing spot and looked at it.

Noting that there was a small indent in the wall, highly unnoticeable if not for the subtle wind blowing through the cracks, Slade looked at it all over.

And in the dark vestiges of the cave hidden in the dark, he felt it.

Feeling out the small almost indiscernible indent in the wall, he grabbed at it with his fingernails and pulled.

And with a smooth movement, the walls split apart to reveal a cave from within.

Or maybe cave was the wrong word.

Instead of a dingy cave structure that was furnished with nature, the place that revealed was definitely man made in nature.

And looking at the relatively old parchment and quill which were set off to the side, it seemed that this place had been abandoned not long ago.

Shaking the ink well, he noted that the ink in it was yogurt like in texture.

Taking another look around the room, Slade touched the books on the shelves and took it down and looked at its surface with a placid look on his face.

That is until he read its title.

[Mo Gui]

Well it wasn't exactly in english, but that was the reason why he was so focused on the title.

Because the title was in chinese.

And it meant Devil, or in other words, the name of the game that he was currently in.

Diablo.

And seeing as he was currently in the third part of the trilogy, that meant that besides the first two games of the diablo series, there was someone else who was here before him.

But this wasn't right.

According to the God of games that he had briefly talked to, this was the first time that they were doing this sort of thing and it was still in its testing phases.

So how in the hell?

And so, with doubts in his mind, he opened the book and looked through it.

Flipping through the pages which were scribbled with Chinese dialect with little to no relation to the widely spoken English in Diablo.

He thanked his bilingual talent which aided him many times in his missions and was now aiding him now in reading this diary of sorts.

To sum it up in a few words that could be written in an entirely different novel, the contents of the diary Slade was reading was as follows.

The diary belonged to a man named... Tian Xue...

'His parents must have really given up in naming him.'

Reading such a lazy name that quite literally meant sky snow, Slade quickly ignored the name and continued reading.

And from it, he could extrapolate a few things.

For one, this man didn't see others during his... transmigration except for the God of Entertainment who had changed his names to the much easier to say God of Fun.

Another thing of note was that recorded in the diary, his past was one of a sensei, or a martial arts teacher.

Of course he took the monk class.

But besides that.

In the diary, his experiences were written down from every single detail, it was honestly jarring how detailed some of the things in the diary detailed.

Including some of the more... physical acts that had occurred in less than savory places.

Slade eyes slightly widened at the detailed explanations.

So ignoring the rather... large amount of physical battles of the bed detailed in the diary, there was also various facts ingrained into it.

For a few, taking advantage of his future knowledge and other lore points, Tian Xue had tried using all of it to his advantage.

Things such as class builds, quest points, bosses, Npc's and the like were basically all taken advantage of as he tried to stop the demons from even apearing.

There were even a few unique builds that he had tried to take advantage of to gain absurd levels of power never before seen.

And it was there that the crazy slaying of Tain Xue the mortal warrior was left at.

After killing the Lord of Terror Diablo and turning him into a soul stone there were many ideas which had been turned into reality depicted in the book.

Some of which were somewhat successful in restraining the lord of terror and preventing his influence from affecting the world.

But they inevitably failed as tiny bits of darkness would surge out from time to time.

And then what happened next?

Well there was no what happened next as the diary suddenly ended there.

So upon closing the diary, Slade could guess what had happened.

'So the plot continues on...'

Turning to look at Leah who was still praying to the Gods he shook his head.

'All of them up there don't care about the mortals after all.'

Silently tucking the book into his inventory, unbeknownst to him, there was a strange glow appearing in his eyes as his fist curled up.

Hi there! Tree here, I know its been a while, but I have found the plot and am now continuing the story from where it has left off.

Since the plot has been somewhat built in my mind, now the only problem left is a matter of class builds.

I already have found a few online, but the wiki is so glitchy that its really hard to make out what the builds can do exactly.

So I need your help.

> Just put the builds name here and their effects here <
