Makarov sighed. "Geez, kids these days. I know they're hot-blooded, but rushing off like that? Not even in my youth was I this brazen."
Macao chuckled. "Well, Karna's smarter than kids his age. Looks like he's finally showing that smartness."
"Yeah, right," Wakaba said, rolling his eyes.
All of them burst into loud laughter.
"Wait," Cornelia said suddenly, "didn't Karna say something before he ran off?"
"Yeah, he did," Makarov recalled. "He said 'sorry' or something…"
A sudden wild premonition struck Makarov. His instincts screamed at him. Frantically, he began asking around.
"Hey! Did that kid do something?" he demanded.
"Don't worry, Master," Macao replied, shrugging. "It might not be anything serious."
"Is that so?" Makarov muttered and let out a deep breath. "Looks like old age is making me paranoid, folks. So let's drink it away!"
He raised his mug and shouted to the guild before chugging the entire drink—only to spit it out immediately at Macao when he heard a voice from the guild door.
"Makarov," came Porlyusica's stern voice.
Makarov spat his drink all over Macao, who accidentally lit Wakaba's hair on fire. Wakaba screamed and dashed toward a nearby drum of water, dunking his head inside.
"Whew, good thing this drum was here," Wakaba sighed. "But… why does the water smell so good...? Oh no—"
BOOM!
A miniature explosion rocked the guild, destroying a large part of the interior and sending drunken mages flying in every direction.
"What is happening over here?!" Porlyusica snapped.
Makarov was the first to recover. Sweating, he tried to smile. "It's nothing—just everyday stuff that got out of hand a bit, hahaha…"
His nervous laughter didn't help the sweat pouring down his face.
"Alright, whatever the hell this is, I don't have time for it," Porlyusica muttered.
"Whew, thank go—"
"Have you seen Karna and Cana around here?"
Makarov froze. The words Karna had said before leaving rushed back to his mind. Around him, light bulbs metaphorically lit up over the other guild members' heads as they connected Karna's words and actions.
"Damn you, boy… Why! Why?" Makarov murmured.
"What?" Porlyusica asked.
"Nothing! He just went on a quest, you know," Makarov said quickly.
"A quest?" she repeated, her expression hardening.
Porlyusica froze. "What kind of quest?"
"Oh, an S-Class quest. You know, I figured it was time the kid grew up and had some fun," he said, trying to look proud.
But then he saw Cornelia in the background, frantically waving her hands and shaking her head. When he looked back at Porlyusica, he noticed her grip on her staff had tightened considerably.
In that moment, he knew he had messed up.
"Makaaarooow!!"
Meanwhile, in another part of town, Karna was still running with Cana in his arms. Suddenly, the voice of the system rang in his head.
[Host, an additional function has been added to the system.]
'What additional function?'
[It seems to be a gift from the Creator since you passed the S-Class test.]
'What is it?'
[It appears to be an achievement system, Host. The Creator made it as a reward for doing certain things that entertain him. Quests are too restrictive in creating such moments since they are only entertaining when they happen naturally or through your own actions.]
'What the hell is wrong with that guy? Well, tell me all the achievements I've made.'
[The Host has made many achievements, but only the recent and upcoming ones are currently counted.]
'Well, what are they?'
[The achievements currently counted are: finally getting a girlfriend, prompting characters to get more serious about training, and escaping from a dangerous medical granny doctor. The rewards are:
– Talisman of the Horse: Healing
– Talisman of the Snake: Invisibility
– Talisman of the Ox: Strength]
"Whoa, what?" Karna blurted aloud, suddenly stopping.
"Karna, what happened?" Cana asked.
"Nothing. Oh look, we reached your home! Just take all the essentials—we can buy the rest on the way. I made sure to bring enough money."
"Alright," Cana replied and went inside.
'System, these things are from the Jackie Chan Adventures world, right? What are they doing here?'
[The quest system gives rewards based on Host's magic and the world's quest requirements. The achievement system gives rewards from other dimensions that make your life easier.]
'Man, that is OP.'
Karna checked the system inventory and took out the three talismans.
'These things are almost unlimited in use. The Ox adds strength instead of multiplying it—it'll let me lift ten tons if I push my muscles to the limit. The Snake gives complete invisibility to anything relying on sight. And the Horse can heal me and others.'
Karna had been worried about his powers after the S-Class quest. He knew he was strong—but not strong enough for what lay ahead. Now, with the achievement system, he could strengthen himself in other areas without sacrificing his main magic.
He had wanted to try other kinds of magic like Cana, but Mavis had advised him to focus on archery for now, and only branch out when he felt he couldn't improve it further.
Cana returned with a small bag.
"Come on, let's go quickly now," Karna said, spreading his arms.
He was clearly about to carry her again in a princess carry.
Cana blushed. "Karna… do you know that you're carrying me like a princess?"
Karna froze. He hadn't realized it before, too focused on running for his life.
"Well… you're my girlfriend. And it's a boyfriend's duty to carry his girlfriend," he said, trying his best not to stutter or look like an idiot.
Cana smiled. "Alright, let's go."
Karna picked her up again and began running. Just then, a voice rang in his head.
[Achievement unlocked: Performing a princess carry with common sense. Good job, kid. Reward – Talisman of the Rabbit.]
'Shut up,' Karna grumbled mentally, but still activated the Rabbit Talisman to run faster.
'Hmm, looks like my speed and stamina increased… but my perception stayed the same. That means going too fast could make me lose control.'
"Karna, did you speed up just now?" Cana asked.
"Yeah. Don't worry—we'll reach the forest within two days. But I'll make sure to stop and rest at night."
"Alright," Cana said softly, hugging him tighter.
