[KIYOMI]
Kiyomi knew there was only so much that she could do, as she ran away from the possibilities that stared her right in the face. It wasn't something that she could fight, and she understood it a little too well, but none of that made any part of her new reality any better.
It was as if the skies had decided that she would be forever the tortured soul there. It hurt to breathe and to think.
The Russians who had been left at the hospital hadn't come after Kiyomi or even Elif, and that was strange, because anyone who knew the mafia knew they had a lot of power in Odanera.
To see them back off like that because of one doctor they claimed had murdered hundreds of men was unexplainable.
No one would ever understand that, but Elif did. Here in the horrors that they lived in, in the emptiness that the good doctor had decided to embrace, was the kind of fear that didn't have an explanation, not once.
"What do we do now?" Elif asked when they got to the apartment.
