"An Hao, quickly answer the phone," Zhang Yun urged as she hurried out of the bedroom upon hearing the ringing phone.
Yet, she saw An Hao standing still, staring straight at the phone in a daze, as if she were frozen in place.
"An Hao? Aren't you going to answer the phone? What's wrong?" Zhang Yun asked, puzzled.
"Oh!" An Hao suddenly snapped back to reality, put down the vegetable basket, and hurriedly walked forward. Clenching her teeth, she answered the phone, "Hello?"
Her voice was tentative and carried an almost imperceptible quiver.
She feared the call might bring her some bad news, news she couldn't handle.
"An Hao? What's wrong with your voice?" The voice on the other end of the phone was familiar, not from the military, but from the hospital.
"Teacher Yan! You nearly scared me to death!" An Hao let out a long sigh of relief upon recognizing Yan Ye's voice, no news being the best news.
