Chapter 71 - Chapter 68

A tremendous crash split the air as heavy metal beams fell to the street with molten metal also raining down like hellfire.

Molten beams slammed into concrete, igniting flames along the cracked asphalt. Car hoods curled like paper. Glass exploded. Building sides hissed and buckled as the heated debris fused to them, branding them with scorched streaks of glowing orange before cooling down to black. The air was thick with smoke, flames licking at street signs, the smell of burning oil, metal, and ozone choking the cityscape.

From the top of a building, Magneto stood with his cloak rippling in the heat haze. His expression was calm and focused on the figure in the air meters away from him. A pair of giant metal pillars levitated before him, shielding his body as a fireball crashed against them, dispersing into steam and sparks.

The next moment he raised both hands.

The twisted remains of cars, beams, traffic poles, even air conditioning units all lifted into the air, swirling above the battlefield like a macabre hurricane of debris.

Across the sky, Gojo soared, his body moving like a blur up the side of the building, dodging the deadly projectiles hurled toward him. His jacket fluttered, orange glow trailing behind him. A beam barely missed his head. Another was deflected with a subtle shift with his telekinesis.

Magneto ripped the entire side of an empty building, disassembling its metallic skeleton and turning the massive beams into spears. They launched at near sonic force.

Gojo twisted midair, weaving through the barrage then, something changed in the atmosphere around around him.

A bright yellow shimmer sparked to life around him. A bubble, five feet wide in all directions, shimmered like glass under a blowtorch as the temperature surged drastically.

Molten streaks paused, slowed mid-flight, and then became goo of molten metal which rained down on the now empty street. The incoming steel warped and melted faster than before, unable to breach the radius of superheated air around Gojo. Even the support beams Magneto guided down at him were reduced to slag before they could connect.

Magneto's brow furrowed, lips tightening in annoyance.

Gojo floated effortlessly, the air around him warping and crackling with impossible heat.

"It's useless, Magneto," he called calmly. "You're not the only one who controls the battlefield."

In response, Magneto's expression darkened.

His fingers curled and every car within several blocks lifted into the sky. Hovering, trembling under his command, their metallic forms groaning under invisible pressure.

Gojo's smile faded. The heat shimmer vanished.

The moment the first car entered his sight—

SCHK!

it split cleanly in two, dissected in midair with both halves passing by him.

Gojo grinned again, slowly raising his hand.

He made a subtle gesture fingers slicing horizontally.

The result was immediate.

CRACK—SHRRIP—BOOM!

Cars, beams, debris began splitting, cleanly, surgically. Shattered remnants rained down across the city, crashing into rooftops, splitting streets, shattering windows.

Below, the X-Men and the Brotherhood were locked in their own war and now caught in the storm magneto and gojo had unleashed.

Kitty Pryde's eyes widened as she turned to see a crushed SUV tumbling toward her from above. She phased just as Blob's massive fist swung at her.

WHAM!

The vehicle crashed onto Blob like divine punishment, sending up smoke and rubble. Kitty phased through it mid-fall, untouched.

Nearby, Jean Grey caught a steel beam spinning toward her with her mind, gritting her teeth.

"Too close—"

She twisted it, spun, and hurled it toward Pyro, who barely dodged as it slammed into a fire hydrant, sending water spraying.

All around them, chaos ruled.

Pietro zipped between fighters, laughing.

"Can't hit me! Gotta be quicker, old man!"

Logan snarled and lunged—but Pietro was gone, again. He turned toward Blob, still half-buried, claws drawn.

"Fine. You'll do."

A quake knocked him off balance.

Avalanche was shaking the very ground, making it impossible to stand. Rogue and Beast stumbled as concrete ruptured beneath them.

Storm hovered overhead, trying to gain altitude.

She charged lightning but Pietro hurled debris at her from every direction. Manhole covers. Stop signs. Road chunks.

CRACK-CRACK-CRACK!

The velocity turned them deadly. She grunted, electrocuting one midair but two more struck her side and shoulder.

Iceman tried to freeze their feet lock them in place.

But Lance's tremors broke his formations every time, turning his ice slicks into shattered crystals before they could take effect.

The X-Men outnumbered the Brotherhood but it didn't matter.

Pietro's speed, Lance's disruption, Blob's charge on them is in perfect synergy. A stalemate forged in chaos.

Above the inferno Gojo was keeping tabs and watched the fight play out.

He didn't blink and then he vanished, reappearing beside Magneto in midair.

Magneto turned but not fast enough.

Gojo raised his index finger with a glowing, small ball of fire that sparked to life.

Then

FWWWWWSSHHHHH!!

A beam of concentrated flame, white-hot and near atomic, blasted Magneto. The entire rooftop they hovered above melted instantly, glass and steel dripping like candle wax.

Below, the two teams felt the shockwave.

Windows shattered for blocks. The air hissed and cracked with pressure.

Gojo teleported away from the firestorm reappearing above the battlefield.

He looked down. His eyes locked onto a mountain of flesh.

Blob, distracted like the rest and now looking up in confusion due to the explosion.

Gojo teleported behind him.

"You're an annoyance," he whispered. "You'll have to go first."

His right hand sparked electricity crawled across his forearm.

CRACK—BOOM!

The punch landed squarely at the base of Blob's spine, reinforced by lightning and Gojo's raw superhuman strength.

The ground cracked, ripples of energy splitting the concrete.

Gojo quickly followed up Four punches, rapid, brutal and precise.

Each one struck upward from lower back to upper spine to the back of the skull injecting electricity into the nervous system.

The energy overloaded Blob's nerves, causing his massive form to spasm.

WHAM—WHAM—CRACK—BOOM!

Every hit reverberated through Blob's flesh and the surrounding cityscape.

He was readying another blow when suddenly

BOOOOOM!

A metal sphere crashed into the exact spot Gojo had been, obliterating it.

Gojo teleported away just in time, eyes narrowing.

Magneto floated in the air, face twisted in fury.

Around him, a rotating shell of small metallic balls spun at insane speed, blurring like a drill. Thousands, all moving around him in an intricate orbit, like a miniature metallic galaxy centered on one man.

A metal storm incarnate.
