Chapter 1 - New World

(3rd Person POV)

"Ugh ... what happened? Where am I?", a young boy says after he opens his eyes and finds himself in a strange position inside some kind of ... capsule.

Unhappy with the little space, his hands instinctively push forward.

*Crash*

With strength that bellies his size and apparent age, the young child breaks the technological marvel and stands up from his now-broken capsule. Trying to regain his senses, he looks around and sees the many trees surrounding him on all sides, indicating a forest as his landing place. The child looks like he is older than he's supposed to be.

Feeling the weight in his hand, he looks down and when he does, he finds a blade ... As soon as his eyes land on that blade, everything comes back to him. He remembers who he is and what happened.

He is a reincarnate, who asked to be reincarnated as Kenpachi Zaraki. That wish was granted to him but his memories were sealed until his fight against Yachiru Unohana took place. Why? Plot reasons of course.

He lost that fight, but instead of healing the young Kenpachi, Yachiru Unohana decided to end his life, the threat to her rule as the strongest and killed him. This set off a series of events which were not planned by anyone but aligned with someone's plan. Kenpachi of Zaraki was sent through space-time, through realities and fiction ... he jumped to another world entirely ... another galaxy, another universe. His soul merged with another one, one that belonged to an infant. Despite belonging to an infant, the soul was powerful, truly powerful. The fusion catapulted the power of the new merged soul to unimaginable heights. It is unsure, what monster was created in the process.

Kenpachi sighed understanding that what happened was not planned but somehow aligned with his wishes. He wanted to be able to jump from world to world, without any restrictions. Now, he was in the grim dark galaxy of Warhammer 40k. It was a condition of some kind, he remembers. 'Make it interesting', were the words mentioned. Well it won't be boring that's for sure.

The blade Kenpachi is holding is his Zanpakuto. Somehow, it followed him here. It is surely no longer the same one it was before, but it still followed him and looks the same. It is much longer than most Zanpakuto, roughly the size of a nodachi, with a relatively narrow, but long tsuba shaped like a serrated, elliptical bicone. The hilt and braid are both white, though they are mostly wrapped in white bandages.

Kenpachi looks around. He doesn't know where he is, meaning on what planet in the Warhammer 40k Universe. He tilts his head to the side and thinks about it. After a moment, he shakes his head. It doesn't matter when he came here or where he landed. He is now the Kenpachi and he will do what he wants, finding new and strong opponents to fight. For some reason, the thought of having near-endless enemies to slaughter and fight in the coming centuries or maybe even millennia excites him.

He is still a child though, so he will need to rectify the damage that he has done to himself. During the fight with Yachiru Unohana, he has unconsciously put a limit on himself. That just won't do, now that he has regained his memories. He will have to work on contacting his Zanpakuto spirit, but that has time. The question is, whether he still has that limit after 'dying' and fusing with another powerful soul. He will see.

.

Kenpachi didn't know it yet, but he was transported to the world of Yngiyo. Yngiyo is a strange planet. It could be classified as an Imperial Death World and a Feudal World located in the Segmentum Obscurus to the galactic east of the Eye of Terror. But here lies the strange part. If we go by the Imperial standards, Yngiyo could also be classified as a Civilised World. The reason for this is rather simple and lies in the mentality and the way the world is governed.

Yngiyo is truly a Death World, that much is correct.

A Death World is a planet which has been judged by the Imperium to be too dangerous to support widespread Human settlement due to dangerous environmental conditions or the sheer ferocity of the fauna and flora that make up the planet's biosphere.

The types of Death Worlds are varied, ranging from planets that are covered by worldwide jungles that harbour vicious carnivorous plants and animals to barren rockscapes strewn with volcanoes and wracked by ion storms. In at least one case, the planet itself is alive. Yngiyo while not alive, is a bit of all of the above.

Death worlds are near-impossible to colonise by Mankind due to their environmental conditions or the nature of their biospheres. Regardless of the danger, many of these worlds have large Human settlements, which are notable for the strength and self-reliance of their people. So the question is, why would anyone colonise them? Or why would they stay there?

The reason is quite simple in fact. Some of these Death Worlds harbour rich mineral, vegetable, animal or gaseous resources that are of such value to the Imperium or humans that came before the Imperium, that a Human settlement will be maintained despite all the dangers.

Yngiyo is exactly that. A world rich in many resources. The humans that settled on there were few, but their mentality was special. Over the thousands of years, the few humans who settled there, during the Age of Technology, had developed a feudal governing system. It was basically medieval Japan but with a twist.

The way humans on Yngiyo handled the dangerous flora and fauna of the planet, was quite simple. They used their common sense. Something that died in 99.8% of the rest of the galaxy, together with the advanced technology. They say the dangerous environment that exists on the planet. In the beginning, they managed to survive thanks to the incredible advanced technology from the golden age of humanity. They used STCs.

A Standard Template Construct or STC system was an advanced, artificially intelligent computer database created during the Age of Technology which contained the sum total of Human scientific and technological knowledge.

The STC was invented when Human interstellar civilisation was at its technological peak. Introduced during the Age of Technology before the onset of the Age of Strife, an STC allowed workers to build anything from a Lasgun to a fortified bunker or the fearsome interstellar warships now used by the Imperial Navy.

STC systems possessed the ability not just to store information but also to produce new designs to meet changing circumstances. So it was basically a computer and 3D printer at the same time, but very very very advanced.

.

Using this technology, humans managed to survive, but something was wrong. It was just not what they enjoyed, not what they felt was right. So a particularly smart man, Suko Masakado, suggested something that was considered ... unnatural. He asked a very important question.

'If all the danger on the planet is down here, but we don't want to leave because of the resources, then why don't we just move higher? Like the sky?'

This was an unusual proposition as it was not really done before. And if it was, not like they thought. So they started to use the technology they had on hand using the STCs and started to research and develop new things that allowed them to transfer from the ground, into the sky.

Using their ridiculously advanced technology, they created land up in the sky and a large city. The system they adapted was feudalism for some reason and they basically became medieval Japan of Warhammer 40k.

The Yngiyo shoguns or military dictators replaced the emperor and imperial court as the country's main source of government. The Shogun, who held all the power, then distributed 'land' to loyal followers and these estates (shoen) were then supervised by officials such as the jito (stewards) and shugo (constables). Then there were four noble families who held a lot of authority and naturally the most money. The military was also similarly built like the Gotei 13 from Bleach.

Unlike Bleach, humans on Yngiyo, similar to the Samurai on Earth, followed an unwritten code of conduct called Bushidō, which emphasized bravery, honour, and personal loyalty. Ritual suicide by seppuku was considered a respected alternative to dishonour or defeat. This had an interesting and powerful effect. During the Age of Strife, when the psykers started to hallucinate and go apeshit, the ones who lived on Yngiyo, saw their loss of control as dishonour of the highest degree and all killed themself.... Not all of them managed to get a hold of themselves soon enough to do that of course. Those had to be put down.

Therefore, they were practically untouched during the entire Age of Strife and managed to survive and protect themselves from all Warp storms, by using their advanced technology and ingenuity. They were a united society first and foremost and that saved their lives.

.

Kenpachi stopped walking and looked around. His senses told him that something was wrong. He might have only now regained his memories, but he was still the Kenpachi who fought in the Rukongai district for years and killed Shinigami left and right.

*BOOM*

The trees were broken as a giant spider shot towards Kenpachi. The spider looked horrible and disfigured. Horns all over its body, evil energy oozing out of every pore and venomous drops dripping out of its mouth.

*SCREEE*

A monstrous screech was heard from the monster spider as it attacked Zaraki, trying to consume the boy. But this 'boy' was older than he looked ... at least spiritually and he was also much more powerful than it seemed. Zaraki turns around with his Zanpakuto in hand and slashes at the giant spider.

*SHING*

His Zanpakuto slashes at one of the legs but doesn't manage to sever it fully. The spider screeches again and uses its other legs to attack Kenpachi, hitting his body and causing him to shoot backwards and smash through several trees before finally stopping.

The monster didn't grant Kenpachi any respite though and continued to attack. It broke through the canopy and spit a blob of chaotic poison towards Zaraki. Zaraki, pulling from the well of his instincts dodged out of the way and then attacked again. He used more of his strength, digging deeper into a seemingly empty well of power. But that's who Zaraki was, there was nothing he couldn't cut.

His Zanpakuto cut through the air with more power than the last hit and the next one was even stronger. Each of his strikes continued to grow more powerful, faster, and more refined ... he was growing mid-fight. And he was growing fast. The situation demanded it. He demanded it.

But something else was happening as well. He felt happiness as he swung his Zanpakuto and fought the monster in a life-and-death fight. It was an addicting feeling. Like this was where he belonged, right here in this danger and a moment away from death. He remembers this feeling as the one he has been chasing in this new life of his.

The giant spider screeched again and spit multiple balls of poison at Zaraki, trying to hit him with its corrosive properties. But Kenpachi was having none of it. His power surged and in his excitement, he ignored defence and went full offence. Psychic and spiritual power burst out of him, for some reason, his spiritual power had transformed to fit into this world and it was monstrous at his young age.

As the balls of poison hit him, he didn't care in the slightest and simply powered through them, coming out on the other side with his Zanpaktuo raised above his head and slashing at the spider's head.

*SHIING*

The blade cut through the spider's hide and all its defences. The soft brain and blood vessels were sliced cleanly and destroyed as Kenpachi's sword cut through the spider's head in one fell swoop.

*Splatt*

Blood splashed on the ground and flowed out of the wound, the spider had gained. The monster weakly tries to move once more, but doesn't reach Kenpachi. After a few moments, it falls to the ground with a weak sound, causing the ground to rumble slightly due to the weight.

*Boom*

Kenpachi has a big smile on his face. He holds on to that feeling for a while longer and remembers what it was like before he unconsciously sealed his power. He is not a fool or a naive man anymore. He has regained his memories and knows that not everything is about enjoying his fight. He especially understands that to seal your power because you fear that you would never experience a good fight again, is pathetic.

There is something he doesn't know though. What he overcame is not the limit he put on himself. He no longer had that limit after he was killed. His full power and all his potential were transferred and fused with the other soul, creating something truly terrifying. Despite being a Primarch, he was a few days old and should not be able to do that. So him surpassing his limits right now, was him pushing his body, mind and soul to degrees that weren't supposed to be possible ... and yet, it happened.

I have another one like this in the works and depending on which one is liked more, I'll focus on that one. But 'Mirror Master' is still my main story.
