Chapter 36 - Chapter 35: The Crimson Path

The demon sun ascended blood-red above the capital. Its beams hit against the imposing obsidian gates of the grounds of execution, where a huge throng had already assembled—ravenous for justice or maybe just a show.

At the center stood two individuals bound by magical chains—Lei Yǔlín and Su Shu.

Su Shu's face was set in a look of determination, and Yǔlín's golden eyes glittered—not in fear, but in a chilling serenity. He shuddered a little as the poison gnawed at his strength, but would not let anyone see it.

From the palace balcony far above, King Lei Moyao gazed impassively down, his face bracketed by Queen Lei Feng's than being very compassionate.Alongside them stood Commander Xiéyàn and Supreme Commander Kǒngyún, the former as impassive as ever, the latter impassive as ever.

Xiéyàn made a low bow. "Your Majesty, everything's in

The king's command boomed through the old magic. "This be a warning to all who oppose the throne. Traitors will bleed. Let justice be served!" No matter who they are , commanders ? Generals ? Royals? Officers? Governor? If anyone if them dared opposed the throne irrespective of Thier status they will bleed to death slowly in pain

The crowd erupted. Drums thundered like war shouts.

Two executioners advanced, blades at the ready.

As Su Shu and Yǔlín were pushed down upon their knees, she shifted slightly and whispered, "If we die. will you ever regret having saved me?"

Yǔlín's smile was so weak it didn't even reach his eyes. "Just that I didn't kiss you sooner."

She half-choked on a laugh- sob, leaned in close. "Then you'd better live long enough to give it a shot."

The blades ascended

The eastern gate shook with a deafening explosion. The smoke billowed out and through it came a figure in a mask wearing dark blue robes—the same figure who had previously acted in silence.

The mask-wearing figure flashed quickly—blades spinning like a whirlwind. The guards dropped. Shrieks broke

Chaos erupted.

Xiéyàn barked orders. Kǒngyún drew his sword and jumped down from the rooftop to partake in the

The masked man charged on towards the stage and sliced through magical restraints with impossibly accurate precision. "Get up!" he shouted.

Su Shu picked up a dropped dagger. Yǔlín stood slowly but with blazing eyes from the effects of the poison.

They're escaping!

"Don't let them live!"

Guards swarmed. Arrows flew.

Then came the conflict—Yǔlín and Su Shu stood alongside the masked man, shoulder blades together. The crowd dispersed in fear as magic and metal met.

Just before they disappeared into the lower city, Kǒngyún himself stood in their path, his blade glinting with killing intent.

"You've brought shame enough, traitor prince," he snarled and charged at the masked figure. And now you're escaping, well you won't make it out of here

Their blades clashed in a ferocious shockwave.

Yǔlín looked at Su Shu and said, run away be quick

"No," she replied fiercely. "I'm not going anywhere."

Yǔlín took hold of her wrist and pulled her into the darkness.

The masked figure struck at Kǒngyún's arm and gained just enough time in which to withdraw. But before they could supreme commder give yulin a heavy hit

They disappeared in the smoke.

Today's Later on that evening—in the woods

They finally desisted when the forest pulled in the moon's light. Yǔlín collapsed on his knees, gasping and pale.

Yǔlín did not even glance upward. He merely whispered, "You can remove the mask now. brother."

The masked man took off his hood and his mask.

Crown Prince Yehua Su Shu gasped.

Yehua gazed at him in surprise. "How

Yǔlín smirked lightly. "Because I knew you would arrive." After all you wouldn't want me dead and I'm sure you were the one that kept sending the letters right , and you even use one of my trusted maid to send me the letter.

Yehua said well your maid told me everything that happened that day how you rescued the assassin named su Shu , and she also told me that it should have been commander xieyan instead of the king

Yu Lin laughed slowly , so commander Han teachings didn't go to waste after all brother.

The tension broke through with emotion.

Yehua breathed out slowly. "You're crazy. You might have died back then why didn't you fight , you're not weak , what's wrong with you ?

"But I didn't die right ," Yǔlín said, his throat hoarse. "And she didn't either."

The eyes of Yehua softened as he looked at Su Shu. "Protect him. He's not as strong as he claims."

Yulin then says brother I think you should leave us now before palace gaurds suspects anything . Yu hua exited the scene as he fled he said "be careful yulin"

Back at the palace

Xiéyàn slammed his fist on the wall. "They escaped?"

Yehua bent very low before the king. "I tried. The traitor prince. escaped. He's gone."

The king's teeth were gritted. "Then we hunt him." And also the masked man who saved them find the three at once .

Kǒngyún stood next to him, his injury wrapped. He did not speak—but later, by himself in the war chamber, he dispatched a masked runner with a scroll.

"Take it to the North figure," he instructed. "Inform master Xiao Chun the situation has changed. The prince has escaped. Yet his head remains wanted. He will cause us no trouble—temporarily." Also the effect of the poison has weakened him that I was able to land a hit on him successfully.
