Rex was startled. His body froze for a split second.
"How the hell did she know my name...?" he muttered, eyes narrowing, fists slowly unclenching. His tone shifted, less cocky, more curious. "Who are you?!"
The woman didn't look back. She simply stepped into the swirling portal, her cloak fluttering like the final page of a forgotten story.
"We'll meet again, Xander," she said, her voice cold. Not emotionless... just buried.
Then she was gone.
"…Great!" Rex shouted, throwing his arms up "Now we've got Miss Mysterio dropping cryptic lines and then running away! You know me, I don't know you! How is that even fair?!"
"Life is never fair, harbinger."
"Oh, shut up, Zeus Lite."
BEEP.
A red warning blinked across his HUD.
"ALERT: Evil intent detected. Your safety is compromised."
Rex turned, dread rising in his gut. "Oh...dammit. The prune's still here, isn't he?"
