Chapter 416 - Is It Okay?

Standing in front of the door to room 808, the group instinctively held their breath. Just as Jiang Cheng reached out his hand, Fatty hesitated for a moment, seemingly wanting to stop him, but ultimately let it go.

The door to room 808 opened.

It wasn't locked at all.

Inside, it was pitch black, like the sea at midnight. After staring for a while, Fatty felt as if he was about to be sucked into the darkness, until someone grabbed his arm.

Fatty jolted awake.

It was Banana Wolf who had pulled him back. By now, the Doctor had already disappeared, and in his dazed state, Fatty had almost walked in as well.

There was no sound inside. Under the shroud of darkness, it felt as if no life existed.

Those who hadn't experienced it firsthand couldn't imagine how torturous this silence could be, because you had no idea what was happening inside.

Perhaps the Doctor was in a life-or-death situation and needed someone to save him.

"This can't go on," Fatty said, turning to Banana Wolf, who looked equally anxious beside him. "You wait here. I'll go in and help him."

Unlike Fatty, Banana Wolf stared at the door thoughtfully. Just as he was about to say something, a rough scraping sound echoed through the hallway.

It felt like a door that had been sealed for years was being opened.

They immediately turned toward the sound, which came from a room at the end of the hallway. As the door opened, light spilled out.

The air was filled with dust.

"It's you!"

The moment they saw the person who stepped out, both Fatty and Banana Wolf's eyes trembled.

Wei Jinting stood at the door, squinting in their direction. "Long time no see."

What chilled Fatty even more was Wei Jinting's current state—he looked utterly wretched.

One of his arms was completely broken, hanging limply at his side. His body was covered in wounds, and a scar on his face was so close to his right eye that it nearly cost him his vision.

Yet, Wei Jinting acted as if nothing was wrong. He wiped his face with his hand, as blood from a wound on his forehead had just dripped into his eye.

"Looks like that person has already gone in," Wei Jinting said, glancing at the door to room 808 with a smile. "Why haven't you gone in yet? Were you waiting for us?"

Banana Wolf frowned slightly. It seemed Wei Jinting wasn't alone, but... who was the other person?

"Now that's what I call teamwork!" Wei Jinting praised enthusiastically, then turned around excitedly. "Wait a moment, we have one more person."

Before Fatty's eyes, Wei Jinting dragged someone out from behind the door.

It was... Wan Yuanning.

At this moment, Wan Yuanning was completely motionless. A trail of gruesome bloodstains marked the floor where she had been dragged, and Wei Jinting casually tossed her against the wall.

"Oops, I might have been a bit rough," he said, grinning with feigned apology. "But what can I do? She wouldn't listen."

"You... wouldn't want to end up like her, would you?"

Even though Wei Jinting looked like he was barely hanging on, both Fatty and Banana Wolf had a feeling that, even in this state, the two of them together were no match for him.

"What do you want?" Fatty asked, trying to sound confident.

He needed to buy time for the Doctor.

However, when Wei Jinting's gaze shifted onto him, Fatty's momentum instantly halved. "What do I want to do?" He smiled, the corners of his mouth pulling at the muscles on his face, making him look quite terrifying. "Step aside, I want to go in."

"That Hao Shuai is already inside, right? I can help you collect his body."

"You—"

"Mr. Wei," Banana Wolf suddenly spoke up, "We were all chosen to enter this Gate and carry out a mission. Our goals are the same; there's no need for us to kill each other."

"If we continue to fight among ourselves like this, we'll all die here." He glanced at Wan Yuanning by the wall, his meaning clear.

"After opening this Gate, I'll convince Hao Shuai to let you leave first." He looked at Wei Jinting earnestly, "How does that sound?"

Wei Jinting seemed to genuinely consider it for a moment, but then shook his head. "Sounds good, but..." His eyes flickered with something as he looked at the two of them, then suddenly smiled, "It's not enough."

"Not enough?" Fatty snapped, "What more do you want?"

Wei Jinting stroked his chin, and after a few seconds, asked cautiously, "How about... you two commit suicide, and I'll leave alone. Does that work?"

"Tap."

"Tap."

Rain was falling from the sky, the sound of it pattering softly. Jiang Cheng walked alone on the street, the only one without an umbrella among the passersby.

Rainwater slid down his cheeks, dripping onto the ground and shattering into pieces.

He hadn't expected the scene inside the Gate to be like this.

Raising his eyes, he saw a medium-sized office building across the street.

The lower part of the building was adorned with signs of various sizes. Jiang Cheng quickly scanned them; most seemed to be companies specializing in incubating internet celebrities or modeling agencies.

And they all looked rather shady.

Soon, a blue sports car pulled up, its engine roaring so loudly it was almost frightening. The closer it got to the building, the louder the engine became, as if the driver was afraid no one would hear it.

The car stopped in front of the office building, and a man dressed in an exaggerated fashion stepped out, twirling his car keys.

He stood by the car door for a moment, then leisurely walked to the passenger side, opened the door, and deliberately pulled out a leather bag from the passenger seat, tucking it under his arm with great effort.

Then he swaggered toward the building.

The whole performance left Jiang Cheng utterly bewildered, reminding him of how Pi Ruan had acted when he first latched onto a wealthy woman.

The man stood outside the building smoking a cigarette, occasionally fiddling with the bangs on his forehead. To be fair, the man wasn't bad-looking, but perhaps due to first impressions, he seemed a bit sleazy.

His wolf-like eyes scanned the long legs of the women entering and exiting the building. After about five minutes, he received a phone call, tossed his cigarette butt, and went inside.

When he came out again, he was accompanied by a tall, beautiful woman. The two of them chatted and laughed, but to Jiang Cheng, it seemed like they each had their own ulterior motives.

Seeing this, he had a pretty good idea of who these two were.

Li Maoshen and Yu Youwei.

His ear twitched as he suddenly heard a strange sound, like something cracking open.

He turned his head towards the direction of the sound, where there was a long-abandoned bus stop, about 20 meters away.

Under the dilapidated dark green rain shelter stood a solitary figure.

It was a woman with an ordinary appearance and build, and like him, she was one of the only two people without an umbrella in this rain.
