Mi Yao lay on the icy surgical table when suddenly, a "snap" was heard as the operating light switched on, casting an intense and chilling light that made her uncomfortable. She raised her hand to shield her eyes.
Her clothes were lifted, and a cold instrument was pressed against her flat belly, moving up, down, left, and right. She turned her head to see that the doctor was performing an ultrasound on her.
"Now, the pregnancy is too early to see much, just a tiny embryo," the doctor explained. "This little embryo is like a seedling that will slowly grow strong."
Mi Yao looked at the screen. It was just a dark spot that she couldn't understand, but she imagined that this was her baby.
The doctor withdrew the instrument. "However, you won't have the chance to see this little embryo grow because you're here for an abortion. Let's begin."
