Chapter 1 - My Beginning

// Third Point Perspective //

In the purple, dark void a silhouette emerged. Drifting aimlessly in the seamless darkness, processing if he had actually died... or not.

He was not sure.

So where was this place?

It certainly doesn't fit the description of neither Heaven nor that of Hell, not that he was a religious guy. He just merely considered the possibility. For he couldn't move nor feel anything, so his mind naturally resurfaced any recollection of where this might be.

Why?

To ascertain if he was safe.

"Ahh! Is there another one!?" he recognized that the voice belonged to a female but couldn't comprehend the language in which they spoke. It doesn't sound like anything he had ever heard of.

The fact that he could possibly be in a coma crossed his mind but it was quickly dismissed. He let his eyes wander a bit more but couldn't see anything else other than the overwhelming darkness.

"Keep on pushing, honey!" It sounded like it came from a man. His tone encouraging and anxious. Although, our main character couldn't tell a word they were saying, he could at least tell the intention behind them.

Or he hoped.

Otherwise, he would be in trouble if the voices actually conveyed the opposite of what he thought.

He wasn't an expert on the matter of linguistics but he has experience at least. As his thoughts drifted frantically in the background, the voices had kept on.

The whole situation had him on edge, anxious even.

Suddenly, his retina were filled with light, a pinkish colour momentarily blinding him. His eyelids flickeres open and slowly adjusts to the intensity, picking up more colours.

He feels a breeze, cold and brief but still giving him goosebumps. It dissappears as fabric wraps his body, his face being pat down gently and warmth slowly creeping o him with the slightest pressure.

He could feel it... in the form of hands (?). It raises more alarms because he was an adult of average size and normally that shouldn't be possible.

But now, he is looking right at two blue orbs hanging from milky-ish glass. They glistened with tears bubbling at the edges. He remains silent as it would be the safest option in these kinds of situations.

Whatever it is exactly.

Maybe he was kidnapped?

He looks around for more clues but it was difficult to move his neck so he just relied on his eyes. But couldn't see much other than the ceiling so he proceeds to futher inspect the individual above him.

He has ashy-brown coloured hair and an unkept beard, thick brows and lashes giving him that stern look. But with the dumb smile plastered on his face he was rather charming, and his eyes that was a deep saturated hue of blue tied it all together.

While inspecting our main character, the individual scrunches his brows and lifted his head. All the little baby could register was a worried look and a bunch of words though. There was another light but crunchy voice that also belonged to a man but the baby couldn't see.

The bearded man spins a little, and he catches a glimpse of auburn hair which is rather hard to miss actually.

The realization sinks in rather quick as the man positions himself next to the woman. Her grace radiating even through her disheveled appearance.

Her face dripping with sweat, shiny auburn hair clinging to her face and her beautiful chocolate brown eyes bouncing between the baby cradled in her arms and... him.

He was not a victim of kidnapping.

Before he jumped futher down the rabbit hole, he attempts to move his arms but all he could muster was a flail. It was pathetic in his opinion but to the now suspected couple it looked as though he was reaching for his 'mama' and they made an "aww" sound.

For him, it conformation his suspicion or maybe just a hallucination.

He was somehow, someway essentially reborn.

His soul traversed the tepastry of space after death and now he was here. Trapped in this tiny body with limpy arms and legs.

Unknown to him though, he need not worry to much because this was a familiar place, he just hadn't recognized that yet.

Well, maybe he should worry a little bit.

.....

It's been a few days since, Virion, had came to this 'new' world. He still couldn't understand a word coming out his parents mouths but could recognize the repeating sound 'Virion' coming from their mouths when talking to him so he concluded that that was his name.

His daily routine consists of sleeping, being breastfed and then changing his diaper. To Virion, they were strangers and he couldn't just magically see them as family. So, of course being taken care of in this manner sparked this tinge of embarrassment in him but he bared with it as he understood his predicament.

He can't survive on his own.

On top of that, his underdeveloped mental faculties didn't allow him much freedom to explore his thoughts and analyze the new language. It was frustrating him a bit, not being able to do anything.

Along with his twin which he didn't know the gender of or even their name, they were just there.

His parents though appeared to be well off. The house or rather mansion was a clear indication but their clothes didn't reflect that which raised questions. He hasn't seen any other new faces so far but to be fair, he sleeps most of the day.

There ware many things he didn't know cause of the language barrier and his lacking physical prowess like for example, his new appearance which he is kinda excited for. Hoping he has inherited at least some of the good genes from his parents.

Who wouldn't?

.....

At least now he some grasp of what they are saying after a couple of months albeit it was miniscule. He lost all sense of time while trying to memorize the new language with every chance he got.

His father, Reynolds, almost always talks to him about stories(?). He couldn't really tell but it does put a smile on his face whatever they were. And his mother, Alice, would read for him and his sister, Ellie.

It was not enough though.

He assigned himself a side quest. Or rather, it was a mandatory for all souls who traverse past the boundaries of space-time and possess a new born...

... learning how to crawl.

It is still difficult to manage but at least he can move both his upper and lower body independently. Though, his weak core is standing in the way of his goals. But soon enough, he will be able to visit the study room... like his predecessor.

For now, he is clinging with all his might to the cribs railing while balancing himself on his two feet.

"My gosh! Our little Virion is growing up so fast! " she comically cries while standing in the door to the room.

Virion, slightly startled, loses his balance and plops back down on his bum.

"Oops."she giggles, shuffling her way too his crib.

"Up we go~." Alice picks him up. "You are probably hungry, huh? Let's feed you first while your sister is still fast asleep."

All he could gather from that sentence was 'hungry', 'sister' and the basic pronouns of this language. Filling in the gaps, he came up with: "Are you hungry?"

But he is missing the 'sister' part.

For that part, it is probably something like: "Your sister is still sleeping."

Combine them and...

"Are you hungry? Let's feed you while your sister is sleeping."

It is quite the challenge going through this everyday.

...

With Virion's tummy full, it is now Ellie's turn. Her ashy brown hair a total mess and watery wide eyes. Alice sits Virion on the bed while she picks up Ellie from her grib which was right next to Virion's.

"You seem to be a handful, Ellie. Both your brothers does or did not cry as much." She sighs.

Her eyes drifting back to Virion whom is completely bewildered... looking at his reflection.

His eyes caught the most magnificent sight... that was himself. He stares at the mirror across from him which he always seems to miss. He has a somewhat of a chubby visage.

Most surprisingly, his eyes.

One, a sapphire blue and the other, a pale silver. His hair dark and ashy, reminiscent of his father's hair. All of that was captured in a baby face that he seems to have inherited from his mother.

"Ah." An involuntary sound of awe escaped his lips. Alice, being the doting she is couldn't help herself.

"Look at you~" She laughs a little, and then a somber smile settles on her lips.

.....

"Aw! I can't stop looking at his adorable big eyes." Tabitha expresses her amusement through her baby voice. And Virion, the victim of her doting remains neutral. He sits upright in between the two woman, his head drowsy having just awakened from his slumber. He adverts his eyes from Tabitha to the antics of his little sister and Lilia.

Tabitha sighs.

She follows his gaze longingly. Her thoughts drifting back to the days of when her daughter, Lilia, was still around the same size and was non-stop giggling at everything.

"Don't worry." Alice tries to console her friend. "Virion is always this quiet."

"Really?" Tabitha leans forward, taking a sip from her beverage before placing it back down on the coffee table opposing them.

"Yes. His only interests is books apparently."

She smiles thoughtfully. She carefully picks up her tea bag by its string, and gently dipping it in her tea."He would even try to read them himself."

"Can he even read?" Tabitha inquires on the unusual topic. "I mean, he is only around two years of age."

"He does pretend to understand." Alice hums, takes a sip of her tea before leaning over to place it back down on the coffee table.

"I let him be since he looks so cute when he is focused." Alice ruffles Virion's hair.

The conversation continues on. Talking a bit more about the boy in question, his odd behavior and their concern about him making friends.

Virion, he didn't pay their words much attention.

Well, he is worried about the attention he is attracting. It is an unfamiliar place, with different rules, other cultures and...

It would be bad if he unknowingly stood out in the wrong way.

All that is known to him is that this 'world' is... 'old'. It does not have the modern technology as he knew it. Also, people traded in either gold, sliver or copper coins.

Some carry weapons like swords, axes or bows in public.

It looks like the average reincarnation story, he thought. Although, he has not encountered any weird, unexplainable phenomena like magic and whatnot.

Is it just a younger Earth perhaps, he thought.

There is too much he didn't know yet. Both because he is trapped in this body and his low proficiency in this new language. Speaking of, he has not been to the study in a while. Now would be the perfect time for an escape.

Slowly, he scoots over till his feet hangs over the edge. He leans back and roles over on his stomach. He carefully controls his descend with his arms, pulling and pushing. His leg searching for the solid ground while the other hangs on top with his arms.

"You need help, Virion?" Alice asks as she watches Virion and leans a bit toward him just in case. He continues to wiggle his leg till he finally grazes the ground with his toes.

"It's pfine." he breaths and gently pushes himself off and lands with his one leg while the other still follows behind. His ankle gives, losing his balance and falls back but luckily Alice grabs his arms. His head lightly jerks back and hit the coffee table still.

"Ah! Virion! " Alice exhales and quickly pulls him up in a embrace, caressing the back of his head. The commotion also attracted Ellie and Lilia's attention.

"Such a strong little guy, huh?" Tabitha attempts to destract him but it seems... he did not even cry.

"Just to ease the pain..." She lets her hand hover above his head. Before Virion could question the strange action something sparkling happens.

It is her hand, emitting a green light.

He feels the tingling in his head disappear.

Turns out, it is indeed another world.

.....

Since the discovery of magic which was yesterday, Virion, is now more determined than ever to make it to that study. His mother has only been giving him story books and not actually literature about the world.

But it didn't matter now.

He can crawl.

Walking on his two feet would be faster... if it wasn't such a challenge. He'll get that next year though.

He is on top a stool, reaching for the third rack up from the bottom. He grasps the book between his fingers, and hoist it in his arms. He throws it down before getting down himself.

He then lays on his stomach while turning the cover over.

This world consists of a single continent - Dicathen, it comprised of three major Kingdoms.

Elenoir, home to the Elves deep in the forest.

Darv, the vast underground Kingdom of the Dwarsves.

And Sapin, the Human Kingdom, and easily the most-populated region in the continent.

As it he read futher, ithe description appeared a bit familiar but he couldn't exactly bring up the exact memory. If he just could translate the actual names to English he could've probably remembered it more easier but unfortunately it wasn't as easy.

But maybe someday.

Even now he has relied on objects that both worlds shared in order to translate them. Like an Elf for example.

'Elf' is pronounced like this which is beings that bare a similar appearance to humans but has pointy ears and generally has a longer life span. That would equate to an Elf in his old world.

But he couldn't do the same for proper nouns.

"Let's read the next one." he sighed and stood up. Luckily this book was only at the second rack so he didn't need to climb up the stool again.

Since he saw his mother's Healing Magic he has always wondered what other powers there were and how it operated. He often listen to his father's ramblings about his younger days where he fought beasts with magic abilities.

It sounded generic but maybe there was mkre to it.

He read the cover, "Beginners Guide for the Privileged Mage."

Mana.

It is a phenomenon that is present everywhere and is brought forth by nature. The power to control and harness it is largely genetic. As among humans only one out of a hundred children possess it.

In theory, the applications of Mana are near infinite in number. Among people though, the most common method are that of two.

Conjuring and augmenting.

Augmenters enhance their bodies with Mana, allowing them incredible strength, agility and defense. However, their weakness lies in their limited range.

Conjures emit Mana to the outside world, allowing them to bend their surroundings to their will. However -

For a moment, Virion paused.

And then skimmed through the text as if looking for something. His expression was indifferent but his eyes was filled with anticipation.

Waiting.

And he stopped.

But it was too late to panic now. He had already adjusted nicely to his new family and lifestyle.

But at least he now has an advantage.

For he knows this world's future amd what it holds.

"This is 'The Beginning' - no."

"I suppose it's now mine." he smiled to himself even if what he said now was kinda embarrassing.

Normally, he would've had a bigger reaction but already living in this world for over year... the news was not as shocking.
