He knew that she was actually a strong child, and as she had truly said, perhaps she hadn't shed a tear before she met him. In other words, almost all of her tears in her more than twenty years of life started after meeting him.
People, how could they not have tears?
Joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness, the flavors of life.
He thought that the reason she never cried before was simply that she dared not and could not bow to life. No matter how difficult or hard, she had to staunchly support the life for her and her mom. But now, she would often cry unabashedly in front of him. His feelings were a mix of heartache and a kind of inexplicable delight.
The heartache was, of course, for her pain. The delight was that this tough little walnut would only shed her shell in front of him. Perhaps even she hadn't realized this.
