As the celebrations carried on, it was inevitable that some revelers ended up drinking far too much and ended up getting completely wasted.
It didn't help that there were numerous dwarves crowding the taverns and inns, chugging beer as if it were water. But of course, being dwarves, their naturally higher constitution than other species allowed them to consume massive quantities of alcohol and still not be drunk at the end of the night.
Unfortunately, due to the merry atmosphere in the bar, some of the non-dwarves ended up getting carried away and tried drinking as much as the dwarves, which turned out to be a grave mistake.
One such victim was a middle-aged dogfolk—half man, half canine.
He wasn't a native to Reborn and wasn't familiar with the way of the dwarves, and had no idea just how foolish it was to drink against them.
So, when a group of them challenged him to a drinking contest—offering a wager of a kilo of Damascus Steel if he won—he jumped at the chance.
