Just as Mavis guessed, the red crystal with Rinne-Sharingan pattern on it was Alex's last resort to protect himself. Although it's actually the Tailed Beasts who made this red crystal to protect Alex, not himself.
Unlike in their original world, the Naruto world, the Tailed Beasts here aren't real living beings. They are just parts of Alex's abilities that have the personalities of their original selves, so they don't have real power in the real world and can only act freely in Alex's soul realm.
That's why even without seals like when their original selves were put inside their Jinchuriki, they won't be able to get out of Alex's body because they are just parts of his abilities here, not real living beings, so they won't be able to live outside of Alex's body.
Even so, they actually still possess magic power that they can use to show their abilities to Alex to teach him. They can't use their abilities in the real world themselves except if Alex lets them take control of his body for a while.
That was what they did when Alex was almost hit by Acnologia's last attack. Kurama told Alex to give him the control of his body and Alex did it without hesitation. He didn't know what Kurama wanted to do, but he was sure Kurama had a way to protect him from Acnologia's attack.
Alex had completely run out of magic power so he couldn't even transform a small part of his body. He didn't know what to do, so he just let Kurama handle it when the fox told him to switch over.
But when Alex entered his soul realm, he was very surprised to see the Tailed Beasts' bodies glow. They were holding each other's hands around him and connecting their magic power with each other while closing their eyes.
"W-what are you guys doing?"
"What else? Protecting you. If you die, then we also die. Do we have any other choice but to protect you then?" Shukaku answered without even opening his eyes.
"Huh? But I don't have any magic power left and you said you can't use your power outside of this place even when I give you my body's control."
When Alex gave the Tailed Beasts his body's control, they can only use the magic power stored in his body. They can't transfer their magic power to him from the soul realm too, so they won't be able to use any magic when he runs out of magic power.
"Right, that was the case, but we found a method to make it possible. There is a price to pay though and it's not a small price in normal situations. But compared to death, it's surely a smaller price." Kurama smirked.
"P-price? What's the price?"
"Ourselves, our souls." Matatabi said it while smiling gently.
Everyone was smiling, but Alex was very shocked that he couldn't say anything.
"There is a chance that we will disappear by using this method. But the chance is small. At most, we will be weakened too much because we can't truly use all of our power outside. We can only use a small percentage of what we transfer outside." Kurama explained the risk.
"That Dragon will use a very powerful attack, so we need to use all of our power to make sure we can make a strong enough defense to block it. We need to go all out because even when we send 100% of our power, only around 10% will be usable. 90% of it is lost just to open a pathway for our power to reach your body from this soul realm." Matatabi continued the explanation.
"What?! Is it really that hard?"
"It won't be difficult at all if we are our real selves. That damn Goddess told you that we are clones of our original selves. But we are actually just a bunch of abilities with personalities copied from our original selves. We are not real creatures, that's why we can't do the same thing as what our original selves can do in the Naruto World with their Jinchuriki like transfering their chakra to strengthen their Jinchuriki." Gyuki was always annoyed by this inconvenience.
"Now we've found out that it's not entirely impossible, but it requires a really high price. All 9 of us need to use nearly all of our power just to make it possible, leaving only around 10% of our power to deal with that incoming attack. That's why kid, we might be very weakened to the point where we can't do anything after this. So you will lose your abilities for a while and we don't know how long it'll take for us to recover. You can't use any other magic, so it will be difficult for yoh after this." Shukaku was genuinely concerned about Alex and so are the others.
"I don't care about that. I can live without having any magic. I just need you to stay alive." For Alex, the Tailed Beasts are his family who's always with him everywhere anytime. He'd rather lose his magic than losing them.
"Heh, then we'll make sure to stay alive. Let's do it, guys!" Kurama shouted and everyone transferred their magic power to him who now took control of Alex's body and was in charge of using their last resort skill.
A massive amount of magic power was shot from the Tailed Beasts' bodies to the dark sky. Alex immediately sensed a stronger connection with the Tailed Beasts. He can still feel what happened to his body and he sensed a lot of magic power pouring in from the soul realm.
But as the Tailed Beasts said, only a little of that massive amount of magic power entered his body. It's not even 10% as the Tailed Beasts predicted, but just 3-4%. The cost to transfer their power took a lot more than they thought.
"DAMN! NOT ENOUGH MAGIC POWER. NOW WE CAN'T USE THAT." Shukaku cursed.
"Tch! Now that it has come to this, we can only use that." Kurama as the one in charge quickly made a decision because Acnologia's Dragon Roar almost reached them already.
The combined chakra or magic power of all the Tailed Beasts swirls around Alex's body, creating a thick dark red sphere that almost looked black. From outside, it looked like Alex was putting himself inside a Tailed Beast Bomb.
But it was actually a barrier similar to the Red Yang Formation that could even stood against 10 Tails' Tailed Beast Bomb. It's only similar though, not the same because this barrier uses all of the Tailed Beasts' nature elements, that's why its color is like that of a Tailed Beast Bomb.
Acnologia's attack hit right after the barrier sphere was erected and the Tailed Beasts gave their all to maintain it as it destroyed the island and everything around.
The dark red sphere barrier was pushed down because it could defend against Acnologia's Dragon Roar while the surroundings are obliterated. It cracked a few times, but the Tailed Beasts could repair it quickly.
When Acnologia's Dragon Roar disappears, Alex is already buried very deep inside the earth. He plunged into the magma layer deep underground because Acnologia's attack pierced the ground until it reached the magma layer.
But because of that, Acnologia couldn't see or sense Alex anymore. Alex who was inside the sphere is drowned by the magma and he was too far to see even for Acnologia's sharp eyes. His magic power also hit rock bottom, so it couldn't be sensed anymore.
That's why Acnologia thought that Alex had died and left after seawater filled the very deep hole he created. The cold seawater hit the magma and quickly cooled it down, hardening the upper layer where Alex was drowned and turning it into rock.
When Alex fell into the very hot Magma, the Tailed Beasts knew he couldn't survive if he got out of the barrier sphere. So they needed to do something and their only choice was to turn it into a seal because they didn't have that much energy left.
They turned the dark red sphere barrier into a seal with their last bit of power. The seal they wanted to make was only something like a capsule that will put Alex in a slumber until he could break it once he regained enough magic power.
But it turned out to be very different because this world's power principle is different from the Naruto World. The heat and the very high pressure from the surroundings also affected it, so instead of something like a capsule, it becomes a very hard lacrima crystal.
It's basically the Tailed Beasts' magic power got crystalized and trapped Alex in it. But none of them could do anything about it because they already used all of their power.
The Tailed Beasts who have been drained of their power immediately fell into a very deep slumber while cursing their failure. Alex also fell into a deep slumber along with them because now he truly had no energy left.
Fortunately, Alex's body naturally absorbs magic power from the earth. But instead of going into his magic power container, the absorbed magic power was flowing into the red crystal, strengthening it even further.
The crystal was slowly cracked by the powerful pressure of being deep under the earth. So repairing and strengthening it were the priority back then. Alex wasn't even controlling it because he was asleep.
It was like an automatic process. But it actually went like that because of the Tailed Beasts' thoughts when creating the seal. They wanted to protect Alex, that's why the seal priority was protecting him, and strengthening the crystal was the answer at that time.
It took half a year just to strengthen the crystal to its level now. The Rinne-Sharingan pattern also formed during that process. After that, the crystal mysteriously seemed to have consciousness as it started releasing strong impacts outside, breaking the hardened magma rock around.
But the impacts were not that strong because not much magic power was accumulated, so it took another half a year until the rock on the surface was finally broken through and a path to the sea floor was opened.
As seawater filled the hole to the crystal, red flower petals started to form around it. A big red flower bud was formed after 3 months and it bloomed after another month. The bloomed red flower started absorbing magic power from the surroundings faster than when it was just a crystal.
But there wasn't that much ethernano or pure magic power here. So the giant red flower looked for a place with more magic power. Then it was drawned to Tenrou Island that has a dense concentration of magic power and also because of Alex's Fairy Tail crest.
Its distance was also close enough so it floated on the sea and moved to Tenrou Island. Those were what happened before Mavis found the red flower and called everyone in Fairy Tail.
Everyone is happy when they find out that Alex is still alive. But none of them realizes that there is a very big problem. When he wakes up, the one controlling Alex's body might not be Alex himself, but a sinister entity that wants to destroy the world.
