Chapter 48 - 48. A Secret of Status

Evidently, getting into the town of Xerxia from over the wall shouldn't have been as easy as it had been for him. But considering the fact that he had made a plan precisely for this, he doesn't know whether he should be surprised or not.

Even though he had taken residence in the town, he had made sure to learn about the routines of the guards. He had used his station as an adventurer to freely check out the schedules and routines of the guards.

It was night and he is familiar with the guards who work during the time as he managed to slip past them. His new ability to use mana without any pain allowed him to do so seamlessly as he went into the town and went about doing his things.

While he is not planning on revealing his survival to everyone, but he knows that Rhia would be very worried about him. So while it might be a gamble to do this, she is one of the people who has treated him kindly in the town and has supported him.

He silently watched her leave the guild with a gloomy and depressed air around her as she walked towards her home while not knowing about the fact that she is being followed by him.

He made sure that he is hidden as he followed her to her home as he saw her go to her house which was like his former place as she went to her own room. He watched her from her window as he saw how downtrodden she is as he wondered if it was because of him.

He hoped that it was at the least. It would be good to know that she was actually this sad for him, though he wasn't sure about it. He saw her going to take a bath as he decided on his next course of action as he sighed to himself and looked at the sky for some courage.

Rhia poured water over her body as she shivered at the cold water that flowed over her body as she sat in her bath and watched the water drip down her hair as she closed her eyes.

She hadn't expected that Armaros's disappearance would affect her this much. She is someone who worked in the adventurers Guild, so she knew the danger that an adventurer faces and that they might die anyday due to it.

Even so, she didn't want anything dangerous to happen to Armaros, but he disappeared alongside his party member yesterday and he hadn't returned this day as well, which only further worsened her mood.

She had grown close to him despite knowing the dangers of the profession. A part of her didn't want to think that he had died, but the quest that he had taken was a simple one, something which shouldn't have been any sort of problem for him to do, and yet he and the girl with him had vanished.

The knights and adventurers has gone to the scene of a devastating battle and had brought back pieces of his armor, but she didn't want to believe that the armor belonged to him and wished that he is still alive somewhere.

The people in the guild and other adventuring had already ruled out the possibility of his survival after reaching the site of battle as it was devastating and no Adventurer of his strength and mana capacity would've been able to survive it.

But she can't just accept it as if nothing happened and had prayed that he would be alive and come back. She decided to finish her bath as she quickly completed it and left her bathroom and entered her room.

She got dressed and dried her hair slowly before she stopped and froze as she saw a piece of paper on her table. She could see words written on it as her eyes widened as she looked around her room to see that everything was in place as she walked towards her desk and looked at it.

She used her mana to check the letter and didn't find any traces of magic on it as she sighed in relief before she took the letter and read it.

[Sorry that I am telling this to you in a letter, but I didn't want you to be worried. I am fine so you don't need to think that I have been heavily injured or anything. I will keep it brief, I was attacked during the quest and I think it would be best if people thought that I had died. I am telling you this because I trust you so I hope that you won't reveal my survival to others.]

Rhia looked at the letter with disbelieving eyes as she read it a few more times. She sat on her bed as she let out short breaths as she couldn't help but smile at the fact that he is alive. There was no one in her memory who would have a reason to do such a thing aside from Armaros, and the timing is good as well.

She took a few moments to compose herself and let the news in as she then looked at the letter as she gained a serious look on her face.

'He was attacked during the quest? So someone was targetting him? Well, it looks like they don't know that he survived. If that's the case, then I guess I have to stay quiet about it, though what will his supporters do?' Rhia thought to herself as she sat on the bed.

"Whatever, at least he is safe, that's what matters in the end." Rhia said as she held the letter in her hand.

"I hope that you will be fine Armaros, wherever you may be." Rhia said as she closed her eyes and held the letter.

Armaros who was right outside her room near the window heard her words as he couldn't help but smile slightly, though he immediately hardened his gaze as he decided to get out of the town and get away from this place.

'Rosa might come here asking for information about me since I told her about Rhia. She probably won't reveal my status to her, but in any case, I don't think I have to be worried about that right now. Even if Rosa were to tell others than I am alive, people would probably just treat it as the words of a child.' Armaros thought to himself as he made his way through the buildings.

He quickly jumped off the wall after making sure that the time was right as he ran away from there with the cover of night as he gave one last look to the town in which he had dwelled as he ran away from that place.

He had already gotten his things from the inn which weren't worth much except for the money that he had. And so without anything else to do he decided to give Rhia a visit before leaving the town.

As for right now, his best bet would be to go to a village away from the town, especially since the church is present in there and the last thing he needs is to get their attention. He just hoped that he wouldn't be dealing with any more drama than necessary after all that had happened.

'Who am I kidding? Something might go wrong for me. Though perhaps due to my condition it won't be so had.' Armaros thought to himself as he ran away.

Dawnbringer Mansion

Aurelia sat in her room with closed eyes as she clenched her hand and crushed the glass in her hand as she wasn't able to feel her son. This has happened since yesterday, but she didn't think much of it at the time.

But she isn't able to do so even now, it was as if his presence had suddenly disappeared, despite the fact that a day has already passed as she opened her eyes which were glowing as she stared at the broken glass in her hand.

'I should take a look at that town tomorrow.' Aurelia thought to herself as he decided on her next course of action.
