Chapter 296 - Chapter 296: The State of the Third Parallel World...

Late Night, Main World, Konoha Village – Link's Home

Clack— The window was pried open, and shadows on the floor stealthily coiled around the uninvited visitor.

Link opened his eyes. In response, his shadow flipped on the lights, revealing Uchiha Madara—clad in armor—standing on the windowsill. His tone was frosty:

"Hold on to this for me."

He tossed over a glass container holding a Rinnegan, then vanished in a blink.

(So Obito, in the end…?)

Link shook his head. Without the arrival of Senju Hashirama and Uchiha Izuna, it would likely have been impossible to persuade Madara. And persuading the "lost cause" Obito would have been even harder—Kakashi plus Naruto might pull it off, but not an aloof Hashirama with lines like "I'd rather not kill you" or a fight-hungry Madara. Obito, even if he'd had second thoughts, would never be granted a chance to defect.

(If Obito's taken care of, guess it's time to get ready to apprehend the older Madara in the Third Parallel World…)

He sat up, remembering Madara's deeper hatred for Black Zetsu. Zetsu was too elusive to catch; they hunted it in the Second Parallel World for two days before giving up. In the end, everyone decided to leave Zetsu alone for now, deal with Obito first, then go detain the old Madara.

Which meant the clock was ticking. He felt it all was a bit rushed: if they ran into a trap, it'd be dangerous—but if they waited, that old Madara might revive Kaguya. Link had stayed quiet at the planning meeting, effectively approving the Transdimensional Pursuit Squad's mission.

(Better prepare for the worst,) he thought. Scowling, he got out of bed. At this point, there was no way he could sleep.

Under cover of night, he slipped back to Training Ground Seven and re-practiced all the wind jutsu he'd tried that day, then repeatedly drilled Wind Release: Blade of Wind. Even if it turned out not too impressive, it was still A-rank, so it wouldn't hurt to master it.

He toiled from midnight until dawn, popping a few special pills and using Delicate Illness Extraction on himself to restore his energy. After a quick breakfast, he fetched Utakata for "battery" chakra, summoned Uchiha Madara, then called over the 'first' Hashirama. Together, they used the Funa-tsū technique to jump to the Second Parallel World.

Senju Tobirama had been up early, hard at work in the Hokage Building. Tsunade had returned to the main world two days ago, leaving him the only one truly in charge. The Five Great Shinobi Villages, plus the Second Konoha itself, all had their own agendas, so the newly formed Ninja Alliance still required constant maneuvering—especially with the Net Jutsu's introduction.

"You've finished off Obito?" he asked the four who came, face grave. Without waiting for an answer, he told the nearest Anbu, "Go inform Minato."

This "Minato" was the younger version in the Second Konoha, which wanted to join the cross-world expedition to earn alliance credit and earn some extra reincarnation quota. Of course, they would send the famed Yellow Flash as their rep. The other villages volunteered too, but Tobirama refused, citing "limited cross-world capacity"—a quiet trap. If any suspicious party believed him, the Net Jutsu's cross-world communication would give them a nasty surprise.

Soon enough, young Namikaze Minato arrived.

"Given that the trip may involve extremely dangerous battles," Tobirama explained, "and to guard against unforeseen hazards, the Funa-tsū scroll will remain solely with my brother—no extra copies."

He directed that final part at Uchiha Madara.

Young Minato offered an awkward but polite smile. Clearly, there was friction within this "advance team," sowing some distrust even before they'd set out.

Madara showed no emotion. He fully expected Tobirama's hostility.

"Tobirama!" the 'first' Hashirama called loudly. The "second" Hashirama almost spoke up but realized neither Tobirama nor Madara here was truly "his." Sigh.

Link interjected: "Remember, once your Summoning runs out, you've only got ten hours. After that, the jutsu will drag you back through the portal."

Madara nodded.

Ignoring his brother's reproachful look, Tobirama paused, then said, "Travel safely."

Then the "second" Hashirama pressed his hand to the unrolled Funa-tsū scroll, visualizing the old Madara's chakra signature. The technique activated. Madara and young Minato each placed a hand on him, and in seconds, they vanished from the Second Parallel World in a ripple of space.

Whoosh! ×3

They touched down in a stretch of desert. Madara quickly recognized it:

"This is the Land of Wind, near Sunagakure. But… what is that?"

Minato stared in shock. Far off, they saw giant vines looming over the Suna, with pods strung along them. An eerie silence hung in the air.

Sensing distant chakra, he stiffened. "That's Madara."

The "second" Hashirama's face grew severe.

"This world's gone through some interesting changes," Uchiha Madara murmured, narrowing his eyes. The "other me" who fled here seemed shockingly weak. What had happened?

Third Parallel World, Kaguya's Dimension: a Vast Desert Realm

"Kamui!"

Spatial distortion tore open. Blood trickled from Uchiha Obito's eye as he barely managed to rescue Uchiha Sasuke.

He never imagined the Eye of the Moon Plan would culminate like this—resurrecting a being stronger than anything they'd faced.

A flood of chaotic events had struck recently. They collected all Nine Tails; the major villages were caught unprepared. Nagato forcibly birthed the Ten-Tails. Obito grabbed a Rinnegan. Then Black Zetsu hijacked Nagato's body, compelling him to cast Rinne Rebirth. Madara returned to life, and Akatsuki promptly fell apart in a storm of infighting.

Worst of all, with Nagato dead, Konan unleashed an insane bombardment that killed nearly everyone. Obito survived by combining Kamui and Izanagi, but most of Akatsuki was wiped out. That huge explosion also lured in Kakashi Hatake, Sakura Haruno, and others. Soon after, the revived Madara became the Ten-Tails Jinchūriki, seized Kakashi's Kamui, reclaimed his other Rinnegan, then used a strange, invisible technique to mortally wound him. Thus, the Eye of the Moon Plan neared completion…

Obito assumed his life would end there—until a "mysterious benefactor" who'd once helped him capture the Eight- and Nine-Tails reappeared, saving him and…

"Chakra… belongs to me alone," declared a tall, pale woman with horns, activating her Byakugan. The Rinne-Sharingan on her forehead glinted with swirling tomoe. She raised her arms. "Here, I will kill you all, reuniting the world's scattered chakra into one."

"Mother," purred a sinister Black Zetsu oozing from her sleeve—this one from the Third Parallel World—wearing a twisted grin. "I sense that interesting person Obito just spirited away. We should finish these off quickly so he can't slip away."
