Ryan began to search old records about the hit and run and then he saw the name of Nancy's friend, Karen, whose testimony in court had tipped the scale on Kimberly's favor.
That was when he begun to suspect that she was the one behind the letters, he hired a private investigator to find her.
Letter four: You seem to be living so well after abandoning Nancy despite all the promises you made to her.
That night while he sat in his study, thinking about Nancy, the maid, Karen, came in. She brought him a drink.
After he drank it, he felt hot. Strange. He could not think clearly. He didn't remember anything. The next morning, she told him he had forced himself on her.
"You raped me," she whispered. "If you don't pay me, I will go to the police."
Ryan knew what it was. He knew she had set him up but also knew it'd be his word against hers if it ever got out, so he paid her to go away.
After she left, no more letters came.
