No wonder Team Magma is here.
This is simply the holy land of Team Magma.
In ancient times, there was a group of people who believed in Groudon and perhaps even served Groudon.
This group of humans from ancient times are the predecessors of Team Magma. They likely left many useful artifacts and knowledge behind for Team Magma to uncover.
However, judging from the stale air and the thick layer of dust coating the ruins, this place had been sealed for centuries. The entire structure might be unstable, and entering recklessly could be dangerous.
Aoki ordered Slowking to leave a psychic coordinate marker so they could teleport out if necessary.
Then, he cautiously stepped forward, his boots crunching against the cracked stone floor.
"Ah—!"
Slowking suddenly flared its psychic energy, forming a shimmering barrier around Aoki before leaping back.
Drapion and the other Pokémon immediately took defensive positions, claws raised and muscles tensed.
Aoki's eyes widened—his own psychic senses had picked up something too, but Slowking's reaction was faster.
BOOM!
The ground beneath them shattered, sending jagged rocks flying in all directions.
Drapion's massive claws swung in rapid arcs, smashing the larger debris into harmless pebbles. Lairon and Larvitar used their hardened bodies to block smaller fragments, the impacts barely leaving scratches on their steel and rock-like hides.
Aoki shielded his face as dust filled the air, coughing before finally seeing the cause of the destruction.
A towering figure, its body composed of packed earth and stone, stood before them. Its glowing red eyes burned with ancient energy.
"A Golurk?" Aoki muttered, recognizing the guardian Pokémon.
Golurk and its pre-evolved form, Golett, were said to be the first artificial Pokémon created by ancient civilizations.
Forged from clay and imbued with life through mysterious sigils, they were testaments to humanity's ingenuity. Some legends claimed they were modeled after the legendary Regi trio, though no one knew for sure.
Unlike modern technology, which relied on machines, ancient humans had used arcane symbols and raw materials to craft living beings.
Golett, initially small and simple, could evolve into the mighty Golurk as its power grew beyond its original form.
This one had likely been stationed here for centuries, awakened by intruders.

A Golurk of pseudo-Champion strength—an incredible find.
If tamed, it would be the perfect guardian.
But right now, its eyes burned red with hostility.
"We'll have to weaken it first," Aoki said, signaling his team.
Drapion, Honchkrow, and Slowking moved into battle positions while Lairon and Larvitar stood ready.
Golurk's massive frame shuddered before it suddenly levitated, its legs retracting as jets of energy propelled it forward.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Each step shook the ground as it charged.
Drapion lunged, meeting Golurk head-on.
Slowking's eyes glowed as six shadowy orbs of psychic energy formed around it, morphing into sharp arrows before streaking toward Golurk.
Honchkrow's wings beat hard, stirring the stale air into gusts that buffeted both allies and foe.
Golurk's fist ignited with flames—Fire Punch!
Drapion's claws glowed with a matching blaze—Fire Fang!
CRASH!
The collision sent shockwaves through the ruins, dust exploding outward.
For a moment, neither Pokémon yielded.
Then—
THWACK!
Slowking's Psychic struck Golurk's head, disrupting the glowing runes that powered it.
Seizing the opening, Drapion heaved, flipping Golurk off-balance.
Honchkrow dove, cloaked in a blue aura—Brave Bird!
BAM!
Golurk crashed into the ground, skidding backward.
But Aoki knew better than to assume it was down.
"Keep attacking!"
Slowking's Shadow Ball, Honchkrow's Dark Pulse, and Drapion's Crunch bombarded Golurk relentlessly.
After a full minute of assault, the ancient guardian finally stilled, its runes dimming.
Golurk, a Ground/Ghost type, had resistances to Normal, Fighting, Electric, Poison, Rock, and Bug moves—but weaknesses to Water, Grass, Ice, Dark, and Ghost.
Aoki exhaled. "Good work."
Now, the ruins lay open before them.
