Chapter 173 - Chapter 173: Trelawney

After spending three days at the Hog's Head Inn, Jane Yu unexpectedly encountered her Divination professor—Sybill Trelawney—at the bar at four in the morning.

She was in a daze, her gaze fixed vacantly on a spot in the air, her countless scarves and shawls draped haphazardly over her shoulders.

"There you are, my dear," she began in a soft, slurred voice. "My cards told me I would see a young woman with black hair, troubled and tangled in her thoughts... her inner turmoil dims her sun's radiance..."

Aberforth pushed a glass of sherry in front of her and coughed heavily.

"Albus interviewed her here—she got the Divination professor position—"

"So she comes here once a year for inspiration... something about 'extrasensory perception.'"

Trelawney took a sip from the glass, the beads and chains around her neck, along with the bracelets and rings on her arms, jingling loudly.

"No bugs in this bar anymore... my dear... I truly hope your future will be free of such pests..."

Within minutes, she had downed her first glass and quickly ordered a second, then a third...

Her consciousness seemed to blur as she slumped over the bar, her breath reeking of alcohol.

"Albus was deeply moved by me—of course, he initially had little regard for Divination—"

"The Third Eye—my ancestor Cassandra—"

Aberforth frowned unhappily, shaking the now-empty bottle of sherry.

"Empty again! These drunkards!"

He grumbled as he carried the empty bottle toward the cellar, clearly to replenish the stock.

The bar was left with only Jane and Trelawney.

Jane helped Trelawney onto the sofa to prevent her from falling and hitting her head.

Just as she was about to return to her room, a loud, piercing voice rang out behind her.

"Change—"

Jane turned back in confusion, only to find Professor Trelawney sitting upright on the sofa, her eyes vacant and her mouth agape.

"Are you alright?" Jane approached to check on her.

But Trelawney seemed not to hear her. Her eyes moved, unfocused, and her throat emitted a guttural sound.

She spoke again, her voice sharp and entirely different from her usual tone.

"Two souls torn apart... now merged. She is shrouded in black mist, walking an unpredictable path."

"The master of death... walks among the living. The girl brings seven deaths, countless betrayals... a child born of pain..."

"Her wavering resolve leads to unforeseen consequences... her destined adversary grows weak..."

Professor Trelawney's head drooped onto her chest, emitting a low, rumbling sound.

Then, suddenly, her head jerked up again, mimicking a retching motion.

Jane froze in shock.

Torn souls... black mist... Obscurial...

The subject of Trelawney's prophecy was none other than herself!

It was as if she had awakened from a dream, finally realizing the magnitude of her misconceptions!

Her three-year-long determination to drop out had wavered, inevitably leading to consequences that affected the entire narrative!

Like the wings of a butterfly, her presence had disrupted the original timeline and plot of the story!

Deaths... countless betrayals... a child born of pain... her destined adversary growing weak...

All of this was the result of her excessive interference in the story!

This was clearly the script for Voldemort's rise to power!

In other words, could the protagonist Harry still grow into the hero who would defeat Voldemort?

She couldn't help but recall the events of the past three years—

The Philosopher's Stone, a key item for the protagonist, Harry had not obtained...

The Basilisk in the Chamber of Secrets, a crucial pet for the protagonist, Harry had not acquired...

The Dementors, dark creatures the protagonist was meant to overcome, Harry had not subdued...

The protagonist of this story showed no signs of being a destined hero; instead, he was obsessed with video games and foolishly delighted over shaving the bottoms of cauldrons!

At this rate, the wizarding world was doomed!

Professor Trelawney's words were both a prophecy and a warning—

No matter what, she could no longer stay at Hogwarts, or even in Britain.

"Professor, you just said... torn apart..."

Jane hurriedly tried to inquire about her fate, but she found herself facing the same situation as when she had tried to talk about Merlin and the Philosopher's Stone years ago—

Her lips seemed glued shut, unable to utter a single word!

"What?" Professor Trelawney barely opened her eyes to glance at her. "I've had too much to drink, my dear child. Let me sleep..."

Her head fell heavily against the sofa's backrest, and she even began snoring.

Leaving Jane sitting opposite her, troubled and tangled in her thoughts.

She needed to ask Dumbledore... Perhaps, as the school rumors suggested, Trelawney's prophecies might be wrong?

Hopefully, he wouldn't speak in riddles again.
