Chapter 133 - Chapter 119: Action Genre — This Time, Let the Players Take the Blade!

Not to mention regular players—even industry giants like Thomas Tanner (Tenghua), Elon Musk, and other corporate execs couldn't help but get curious. They eagerly started trying out the new custom character feature to see how it compared to their own platforms.

But after just a few seconds of tinkering, they all went silent.

The gap… was massive.

Think Mount Everest vs. a molehill.

Sure, the custom character feature existed on other platforms like Penguin Studios, Hog Farm, MustDie Entertainment, and others. You could tweak your VR avatar there too. But those systems were clunky, crude, and felt completely fake. They didn't even sync up with the environment around you—it was just a 3D mannequin floating in space.

But in [New World]?

Thomas Tanner tried setting his character up as a chubby guy with a big belly.

And guess what? He could feel it. His whole body felt heavier. His movements were sluggish. He could pat his stomach and even feel the flab jiggle as if it were real flesh.

It was so immersive—it felt like his real body had changed.

"Insane…" Thomas muttered. "[New World]'s VR interaction system must be light-years ahead of anything we've got."

And then came the frustration.

"Damn it, this is a groundbreaking feature! And they're giving it away for free?!" he cried, slapping his thigh. "What kind of logic is this?!"

If his company had something like this, they'd charge players $50 just to touch it!

Watching [New World] practically throw their tech into the crowd for free made him feel more pain than seeing someone else make money.

It was like running a greasy dive diner, then watching a five-star hotel pop up next door serving better food, with top-tier service—and they're handing out meals for free.

Of course, he was pissed.

All the other tech CEOs were thinking the same thing: this studio isn't just good, it's terrifyingly advanced.

"If only we could acquire them…"

A few minutes later, everyone in the stadium had finished designing their characters. Some weren't great at it—their faces looked a bit off—but hey, anything was better than the shadowy, faceless silhouette they were before.

"Okay, that's enough plastic surgery for now," said Alex Zhou (Zhou Che), standing center stage in the spotlight. He clapped his hands, and the virtual mirrors disappeared. The custom character interface vanished instantly.

He knew how addictive character creation could be. Some players would spend hours tweaking every tiny detail. But this was a press conference, not a salon.

Even though some players groaned in disappointment, they quickly turned their attention back to the stage. They were itching to hear about the new game.

Alex smiled and continued, "At [New World] Studios, we love to try new things. So far, we've made two games: the psychological horror title Silent Hill, and the sci-fi survival epic Deep Sea Trek. But today, our third game is going to be something totally different—an action title!"

"Action?!"

The executives from major studios immediately perked up.

Sure, action games sound common—old-school classics that date back to the birth of gaming. But those were console or PC-based, where players just clicked buttons to throw punches or swing swords.

VR was a different beast.

There's no keyboard or controller here. Players are the controller. They have to swing, punch, dodge… for real.

That's what made VR action games so risky and hard to pull off.

Konami had tried it once—spent millions over years developing a 3A VR boxing game called The Ring. It was all about boxing your way up the ranks.

But when it launched, players found it clunky, the visuals looked rough, and the punching felt weightless. After a while, it gave people motion sickness.

Sales were a disaster.

Since then, no studio had dared to try VR action again.

And now, [New World] had the guts to bring one to the table?

Players felt both excited and terrified.

If it were any other company, they'd laugh it off. But [New World] was different. Their games were too real. Too intense.

If they really made a VR action game... players might actually have to fight for their lives.

Alex's voice echoed again: "Let's take a look at the official trailer!"

As soon as he spoke, the entire stadium faded from view.

In a blink, players found themselves standing in a maple forest.

Crimson leaves drifted down in the autumn breeze, while a quiet brook flowed through the trees. The beauty was breathtaking.

But then came a distant roar—battle cries, loud and thunderous.

Their avatars began sprinting toward the sound.

Soon, they broke through the trees… and were hit with the raw chaos of a battlefield.

Hundreds of soldiers clashed in a brutal melee. Swords sliced through flesh. Arrows flew. Blood soaked the dirt.

It was visceral.

You could smell the coppery tang of blood in the air. Some players gagged.

A deep voice narrated: "As the inner government expanded its territory, the remote nation of Ashina was not spared. But a swordmaster known as the Lone Warrior led a resistance that would go down in legend."

The screen focused on one warrior—armored, masked, moving like lightning through the carnage. With every swing of his blade, enemies dropped like flies.

"That's him! That's the Lone Warrior!"

"Holy crap, he's unstoppable!"

The narration continued: "Under his leadership, the people of Ashina reclaimed their homeland."

Then the screen darkened. A new scene.

The aftermath of battle. Corpses everywhere. In the middle of it all… a boy.

He stared quietly at a bloodied katana on the ground.

From the shadows, a large man approached. He drew a blade and held it to the boy's face—cutting his skin—but the boy didn't flinch.

"The soul of a wild dog, is it?" the man said, amused. "Then come with me… Hungry Wolf."

The boy looked up, grabbed the man's blade with his bare hand. Blood dripped from his fingers, but he didn't let go.

The man smiled. "From now on, you'll be called… Wolf."

The screen went dark.

Ink-stroke letters appeared:

SEKIRO: SHADOWS DIE TWICE

Players were suddenly back in the arena.

The trailer was only a few minutes, but the crowd was buzzing.

"Wait, so this is a sword-fighting VR game?!"

"We're gonna duel people in first-person?!"

"Yoooo this is insane!"

"It's everything I've ever wanted! Blades! Honor! Blood!"

"Old thief Alex… you've done it again."
