Solvi frowned. Something was wrong. Yes, she could hear it.
Her body tensed with anticipation.
Footsteps.
Close by.
Getting closer now.
Someone knew they were here.
Of course they did. Just moments before, the chamber had been bursting with light. Something like that would easily grab their attention.
"We need to go before the Royals show up," she said, crouching just behind the closed double doors.
"What about Kael and Varek? We can't just leave them here!" Ronin said in a hushed whisper.
"Like I said, don't worry about them. Once we escape, I'll pull them from the Veil in a new place. They've already made their escape. Now it's up to us to make it outta here."
She wasn't worried about herself. She could go back into the Shattered Veil at any moment. Retreat into a place no one could follow. That was her safe place. It was where she had always gone when things got bad.
