Orion would be heading to the cave tonight — like he always did every full moon — to let the wild part of himself, the wolf, roam free and reset under the moon's pull. Megan still didn't understand why the moon affected him so deeply. And with Artemis staying tight-lipped, she doubted she ever would. As a moon goddess, even she had to shed her human form to fully grasp it.
It was always a vulnerable night for Orion. But tonight… tonight felt different. Off, somehow. Her chest tightened with unease.
A branch snapped behind her.
She jumped, heart lurching.
"Hey, honey," Orion's voice broke through the fog of her thoughts, warm and grounding, but her nerves were too frayed to hide it. She startled, her hand knocking over a basket of fruit.
He was at her side in an instant, brow creased with concern. "Whoa —sorry. I didn't mean to sneak up on you."
Megan forced a smile and dropped to her knees to gather the spilled apples. "It's okay. I was just... lost in thought."
