"Where are you coming from?" Aurora questioned the moment she saw Valeska stepping out of the taxi.
Valeska didn't immediately answer her mother. Instead, she reached into her pockets, realizing she had no money. Without hesitation, she turned to one of the guards stationed at the front gates.
"I'll pay you back as soon as possible," she promised as she borrowed some money from the guard to pay the taxi driver.
The driver, having waited patiently, accepted the cash with a slight nod before driving off, leaving Valeska standing under the dim glow of the pack's outer lanterns.
Aurora's eyes narrowed in suspicion as she folded her arms. "I asked you a question, Valeska."
Valeska finally turned to her. "I just escaped from the hands of my captor," she said bluntly.
Her words immediately sent a wave of confusion through Aurora and her stepfather, who stood beside her.
"What do you mean?" Aurora snapped, her voice sharp with disbelief.
