Chapter 62 - The effects of corruption

"Don't worry though, she must've done something for you to be able to live through that." Leo tried to console me in some way, but it in no way felt enough.

Why, why is all of this happening now? Why couldn't it just… not the stuff about corruption would've happened regardless…

I lay down on the bed to take a moment to turn off my brain. And for a while I succeeded in that, but that moment was short-lived.

Fuck, now what?

"It's pretty soft in here, right? It feels like I'm slowly sinking in a soft cloud." Leo commented after a long moment of awkward silence.

"So…" Before I could say anything else, Ilay had returned with a first aid kit.

He rushed towards Leo and checked the injured area. The color of the bruise had turned purple, and there was some swelling.

"Look how bad it has become; you should've complained more if you got hurt." Ilay said as he opened the first aid kit and took out a bunch of strange equipment.

He first spread some weird floral-scented cream on the bruised and now swollen area, covered everything with a green gel, and bandaged it pretty tightly.

Ugh, it's even swollen up; that must've been quite painful. I can't even imagine what that would feel like.

The swollen area looked very squishy, as if it was filled with water; it was quite gross to look at.

Haaaa.

School was just about to start, but before I could even head there, I had already caused a huge uproar in the arena. During an important event, everything went wrong because a fat fuck was too prideful for his own good, causing a large massacre and complete extermination of two families.

The atmosphere couldn't be worse; even the others are talking less and less to me. Nothing seems to be going my way as of late, and it all began to happen when I was kidnapped… Was I cursed with bad luck or something back then?

"What are you thinking about?" Leo asked me.

"Stuff, honestly, it's been a pretty tiring day today. Can't we just eat something and maybe go to bed now? I've had enough for one day." I complained.

I didn't feel physically tired; my body never felt more energetic and light. I just wanted to close my eyes and imagine for a second a much more beautiful world, where people don't try to kill me for the minor slights or inconvenience I cause them, where I can rule over these pe—

Mmh, perhaps that's a little too much.

"So, Lucy, have you made any new friends here?" Ilay asked me as he also jumped on the bed to lie down in between the two of us.

"I thought I did, but apparently it was just my imagination." I responded.

"Wait, seriously? What happened?" His concerned voice made it even worse when I tried to explain it out loud.

"Well, at first… after the incident, they acted as if nothing happened, but slowly they kept distancing themselves from me, and now they barely even speak to me." I explained.

Ilay remained silent; it took him a while to begin speaking again.

"To be honest, it's not much of a loss; after all, those people were in remedial classes because they weren't good enough to keep up with the others; not being able to be friends with them isn't that big of a loss." He said to comfort me.

But I don't want to become like Leo. He's fine with being alone because he spends all day admiring demons and searching for his next obsession. I don't want to live like that! No offense, Leo, you're kind of… You're special in your cute way.

"So, what will you do now?" Ilay's deep voice echoed in my head for a while.

It kind of annoyed me. I wanted to stop thinking; I just wanted a small moment of silence, but he was forcing me to remember. And along with those bad thoughts were also all the bad memories with this place.

I don't know why you are asking such a heavy question so suddenly; just let me enjoy the moment. I'm not trying to do much else here; I just want to laugh and have some fun.

After yet another shared moment of silence, Ilay spoke again.

"What about your condition? Have you or your parents figured out a way to cure it? Has it weakened over time or…" I don't know why Ilay was asking me that; he knew that I knew next to nothing about my condition.

That question hurt a lot, not because it was a hurtful question, but because by then I was starting to believe my parents had simply given up on me, and so they were most likely not even looking for a cure.

"No, nothing has changed. I can only taste chocolate, and I haven't read anything coming out from both my mother and father. I seriously doubt they're going to find a cure anytime soon." I responded.

I honestly am fine with this… Probably, at least I'm not risking growing addicted to food, am I right? What am I even saying right now? I sound pathetic.

I laid down on the bed, trying to remember the last thing I could about my remedial classes, and strangely enough, I couldn't remember much; all my memories had become hazy thanks to the effect of colorful madness.

I remember seeing a strange new blonde girl arriving at the island and coming to our class. She too was incredibly smart, probably too smart for her age.

Moreover, memories of my kidnapping were also starting to slowly fade away.

"What are you thinking about?" Leo asked me.

"I think I remembered a blonde girl entering the school; do you know something about it? She seemed fairly distant from all the other kids, so…" I answered while looking at the ceiling as I was trying to remember the rest of her face.

"Is she beautiful?" Ilay asked.

Obviously? What kind of question is that? Would I even be paying attention to her if she was ugly?

Even Leo took some time to turn around and look at Ilay with a disappointed look on his face.

"What? You don't need to be—"

"Don't! We get what you're trying to say, but we don't care. It's not like you care either, that girl you used to fawn over… Whatever her name is, she too was incredibly beautiful. You're in no position to criticize us." Leo immediately interrupted him before he could say anything else.

"Still, it's not good to grow up as shallow as Michael or Elvis." He insisted.

"Yeah, yeah, we know it now… Do you know anything about that new girl?" I asked Leo.

"Mmh, you said she's blonde; does she have green eyes by any chance? Not any ordinary green, they kind of seem like emerald gems." He asked me.

I shook my head; the one I remembered had clear eyes, a weird mix between white and light blue.

"Does she have curly hair?" As he was asking more and more about her, I could slowly remember her more vividly.

"Nope, straight-haired beauty." I reiterated.

"Okay, but is she taller than you?"

"Yes, slightly taller than me." I answered.

"Oh, I know her! She's not exactly new around these parts; her family was kicked out before, but to think they were able to make it back here… She's Virginia, the youngest daughter of the Acory house, a family specialized in the trading of weapons." He explained.

The small story piqued my interest.

"I remember my father complaining about that family trying to sabotage our business. It's a miracle they managed to return after being kicked out." He commented.

Ah, what a shame then; I doubt I'll be able to get closer to her… Or can I?
