However, Kingpin only applied a slight force, and Octopus Lady's struggles immediately ceased.
Her four mechanical tentacles dropped helplessly.
The lack of oxygen to her brain and the crushing force around her neck, akin to a hydraulic press, made her realize she must not act.
"You want me to destroy the particle collider, to destroy my hope!"
Kingpin's voice was low and cold, sending a chill down the spine.
"Ugh…ugh…"
Octopus Lady's face turned bright red. She opened her mouth, gasping for air, and her eyeballs started to turn bloodshot.
But her rational mind told her she wouldn't die, and she had to hold on.
The others, standing aside, were nervous and dared not breathe.
Kingpin coldly watched as Octopus Lady slowly approached death, his eyes filled with nothing but endless indifference and cruelty.
Only when she was about to lose consciousness from suffocation did Kingpin release his grip.
"I told you, if the particle collider is really destroyed, you won't need Spider-Man to do it. I will personally dismantle you."
"Cough...cough…yes…"
Octopus Lady lowered her head, gasping for breath in large gulps.
Gravestone and Scorpion remained silent, too scared to speak.
Kingpin gave them a cold glance before turning to walk toward the car.
"Take the Green Goblin's head."
Gravestone and the others exchanged looks and then, with combined effort, carried away the decapitated head of Green Goblin.
Meanwhile, in a hotel room…
"Your boyfriend is the Demon King! How cool is that?"
Peni's eyes sparkled with curiosity.
"He's not my husband! He's just my boyfriend."
Gwen waved her hand, her pale face instantly flushed with embarrassment.
"Pregnant before marriage, and that Demon King... he's not even human."
Shadow Spider-Man glanced at Damian's legs with a subtle look, his tone filled with dissatisfaction.
"Damian isn't my child, but, well, he's like a son to me... sort of…"
Gwen started to ramble, getting increasingly confused as she tried to explain.
"I guess he's like an adopted child?"
Aunt May, having finished bandaging Damian's head wound, smiled as she spoke.
Aunt May had learned a lot about medical care because of her nephew and was very skilled at tending to wounds.
"Yes, that's it," Gwen nodded.
"Speaking of which, what's up with the demon on Damian? Did the Demon King do this?"
Pajama Spider-Man asked, his eyes filled with confusion.
"I don't know either."
Gwen glanced at Damian, thinking it was a mark like her own at first.
Damian, however, calmly replied, "The Godfather was worried about me being bullied at school, so he had it placed to protect me."
"…"
The room fell into silence.
The Demon King was a bit much.
To protect a child from bullying, he sent a demon after him—but thankfully, this demon had kept them all safe during the battle.
Once they understood the origins of the demon, the Spider-Men relaxed, knowing at least the demon was on their side.
Though its methods were cruel, none of the Spider-Men were foolish enough to ask the demon to go easy on them.
As Aunt May went out to buy food, the Spider-Men began to rest.
After such a fierce battle, everyone was exhausted, and with the pain of their cells constantly deteriorating, none of the Spider-Men were able to fully perform in combat.
Chapter 128: Cheap Lives (2/2)
"Damian, let's play a game together. My Spider Mech has lots of future games."
Peni's eyes gleamed with anticipation, her movements a bit erratic due to the flashing lights on her suit.
"Sure."
Damian nodded as he watched Peni occasionally pause in her movements.
The two ran into the Spider Mech.
Peni happily opened the game interface on the Spider Mech and began introducing Damian to the different, innovative games.
Damian quietly listened, his eyes showing a bit of curiosity.
The other Spider-Men, seeing Peni and Damian hiding in the Spider Mech playing games, couldn't help but smile.
"What should we do next? The key is damaged."
Shadow Spider-Man sighed as he looked at the key in his hand. Kingpin would certainly be on high alert now. They didn't have time to steal it again.
"I'm sorry. I really wanted to make up for it, but I failed."
Miles lowered his head, his voice filled with guilt, his hands tightly clenched into fists.
"It's okay. After all, it was our mistake to send a kid to do this in the first place."
Shadow Spider-Man patted Miles' shoulder in comfort. He glanced at Pajama Spider-Man.
Pajama Spider-Man awkwardly scratched his head, not sure what had gone through his mind at the time.
Miles had played the pity card to get him to agree.
If it weren't for saving Miles, he wouldn't have been captured by Octopus Lady.
Miles' pride was wounded.
"No, I can do it. After you guys leave, someone has to destroy the machine. That person has to be me. I promised him."
Miles stubbornly lifted his head.
Pajama Spider-Man nodded as well.
"Miles is actually really capable. He can turn invisible, he can electrocute, and he's shocked me unconscious before. We don't have those abilities, so let him show them off."
"Uh!"
Miles turned red in the face, yet didn't say a word.
Spider-Pig couldn't help but shake his head as he looked at Pajama Spider-Man.
"Alright, he can't control it yet."
Pajama Spider-Man helplessly patted his head, his expression growing serious. This meant that one of the Spider-Men would have to die here.
"I'll stay behind to destroy the machine. This world will be unaffected, and when the time comes, I'll send Damian back, and Kino will come looking for me."
Gwen said, her gaze firm, as if she had already made up her mind.
"No, not possible. Let's not talk about how long that mark will protect you, but if we leave you behind, you'll have to face Kingpin's retaliation alone.
And even though I don't know how strong this Demon King is, the chances of finding you across countless parallel worlds are too low."
Pajama Spider-Man then suggested, "I should stay. I'm the oldest, so I should do it."
"I'm the strongest. I'll stay," said Spider-Pig.
"I'm okay with killing. I'm not afraid of Kingpin. I'll stay," Shadow Spider-Man said.
The Spider-Men began arguing over who should stay, each unwilling to back down.
Even Peni, who was hiding in the mech, joined in, eager to stay behind.
Miles grew increasingly frustrated as he listened to their noisy bickering.
"Enough!!!"
Miles shouted.
Everyone fell silent, watching him without a word.
"Why won't you believe in me? I was bitten by a spider just like you, I can be a Spider-Man too.
Why does one of you always have to sacrifice yourselves? Is your life really that cheap?"
Miles' eyes reddened, his voice trembling.
He thought of the blonde Spider-Man from his world and was filled with a deep sadness and anger.
The room fell into complete silence as the Spider-Men exchanged uneasy glances.
Quote of the Chapter:"Sometimes, the greatest strength is in believing that you can fight for yourself, even when the world doubts you."
