Chapter 2 - Goblin's Groove

Leaving her house, something that was always in her mind, waiting for the day to come that she would've really left her safe place and started adventuring in the world that once was seen as a book to discover, although she still sees the outside world in this way, now it's her time to open up this book.

Excitement was printed on her whole face, yet she still didn't move an inch, there was a new sort of fear in her, was it fear? Reluctance, combined with her will to start a new paragraph of her life there was reluctance.

She hesitated to move, paralyzed to go on her new way.

Looking at the walkway that connected her house from the road to the forest she imagined a future, a future that she always dreamed of when she was younger, a life full of adventures, fights and discoveries, she always wanted that but now her fears of an unknown future were stuck in her head.

Turning around she took a sight of her own house, reminding her of all of the good memories she had. She always had a good memory, most of her childhood was imprinted in her mind, although sometimes there are memories to forget, she kept them all.

Even if many times she felt lost, sad or even desperate, she kept them, because to her memories are what makes a person. Every moment of her life built the present herself.

While considering staying in that house she grew up in, she shook her head.

Due to her anxiety she really thought of staying, yet she had a goal she wanted to light on, she wanted to gather information about her parents, the reason why they left her… and mostly the true nature of her mother.

She vividly remembers her mother's face, although she was two years old the last time she saw her, she strongly remembers her main traits, such as her face, her hair, and mostly her eyes. She inherited her mother's peculiar eyes, although not their colour… my mother's eyes were golden.

The trait that she inherited from her mother, besides her facial features and hair, was a comforting yet unnatural light that came out of her eyes. She could remember that moment like it was yesterday, persisting in her head in a gentle way, that was surely one of her memories she never felt to forget.

The image of her mother holding her in her arms when she was still a baby, giving her a last goodbye before abandoning her. The tears in her eyes but still keeping that strange light and a sort of comforting aura that engulfed her. My mother never wanted to abandon me… no she was forced to…

Those were her memories and thoughts about her mother, she never despised her at all… the thought of leaving me never touched her heart, but she had to.

She moved her legs, as opposed to the idea of remaining she had before, she kept going.

Continuing on her way, she entered the Goblin's Groove, a forest known to everyone for many reasons…

Most people know the forest as an easy path to take, since only goblins are known to live there. In fact, it is probably the safest route.

Yet some remember the forest for an event that took place years in the past...

Relentlessly moving forward, she found herself deep in the forest. With a sword in her hands, she was prepared for a sudden attack… although after walking for what felt like hours, she hadn't encountered any goblins, which was strange.

Something was obviously wrong, she knew that.

She kept cautiously turning around from time to time, searching for any hint of a goblin ambush, even though they aren't exactly a smart species.

She couldn't brush aside a dark thought that something in there was wrong, that the absence of monsters meant something was happening.

Many would've just thought they were being lucky and didn't have to risk their life over some stupid and easy to kill monsters, easily avoiding any fight. But that wasn't her case.

All her senses were up, worried, tightening the grip she had in her sword, watching for a moment that pitch black sword, passed down to her by her guardian. She always saw that sword in her home, although she was still too young to wield it.

That relaxed her for a moment… or so she thought.

Suddenly, her hands suddenly trembled, the sword slipped from her grasp, falling to the ground.

'Strange… am I really that stressed? But my hands aren't shaking anymore?'

Brushing it off she bent down and went to get the sword back in her hands.

Right then her senses reacted, feeling an unnatural movement of air above her head, followed by the deafening sound of trees being torn apart.

An invisible attack from a massive monster struck but, oddly enough, she managed to dodge by sheer luck.

She began to break out in a cold sweat. Turning around, she saw a monster slowly materializing out of thin air, becoming visible from head to toe.

It was enormous, reaching the length of a full grown tree, holding a mace nearly his size, a mace that had just been used to sweep away entire trees, sending them flying.

The monster was entirely green, dressed in tattered rags. It resembled a goblin, with pointed nose and ears, but was taller and more muscular than an ogre… something else entirely, something unique.

Everything about him was terrifying, and to the girl standing beneath him, that meant fear.

He was undoubtedly strong, fast, cunning, and intelligent. That use of invisibility was unheard of among monsters, normal ones don't use their powers like that. But this one was different.

The girl, staring at the imposing figure, didn't know what to do. Run away? Did she even have time for that? Fight back? Could she even manage to land a hit?

She was unsure what to do, but she knew something had to be done.

Getting back to her feet, she tightened her grip on the sword... but the monster was already preparing its next attack.
