Chapter 109: Pure Peace, Training with Whis
"Idiot…" Bulma turned her head to look at Yamcha. "You, go up and give Goku a demonstration!"
"Huh? Me?" Yamcha pointed to himself in shock, staring at Bulma in disbelief.
"Hurry up!" Bulma repeated each word forcefully.
Yamcha was clearly extremely reluctant. He looked at Bulma and kept confirming, "Can't you pick someone else?"
Bulma pointed at everyone around them one by one. "You want the old man to go up?"
Master Roshi was already itching to try!
"What about the cat? Or the pig?"
Oolong was gnawing on a white handkerchief, tugging at it furiously. Puar had a string of question marks floating above his head.
"Should I pick Launch then? Or Tien? Chiaotzu? Krillin?"
"Then… can't we get that guy to do it?" Yamcha looked utterly aggrieved as he pointed to Lin Qi, who was leisurely enjoying a slice of cake.
Lin Qi grinned, placed his tiny fork in his mouth, and gave his tail a lazy flick toward the crowd.
Saiyans—let's just say we don't quite get your Earth customs.
"…Fine!" Yamcha could only resign himself to his fate.
Thanks to Yamcha and Bulma's enthusiasm, the wedding finally came to a successful end.
Lin Qi packed up some desserts and, ignoring the rest of the rowdy guests, was about to head back to Whis.
But just as he stepped out of the hotel, he overheard Goku and Chi-Chi's voices nearby.
Under the starlit sky, Chi-Chi rested her head on Goku's chest as the newlyweds sat on the grass outside the hotel.
"Goku, where should we go for our honeymoon?" Chi-Chi asked shyly.
"Huh?!" Goku was still in a daze. He wanted to ask what a honeymoon was, but thought it might not be the right time.
"Where do you want to go…" Chi-Chi asked casually, then started counting places on her fingers.
"We don't need to rush. Let's not ride the Flying Nimbus—it's too fast. Why don't we just drive? When we get home…"
"We'll open a martial arts school. With you as the world champion, the school is bound to do well…"
"Then we'll have two kids—a boy and a girl! What do you think our children should do when they grow up?"
"Uh…" Goku was completely lost in Chi-Chi's train of thought.
Even Lin Qi, standing off to the side, was dumbfounded.
"Are you even listening to me?" Chi-Chi grew annoyed at Goku's long pause.
Goku scratched the back of his head awkwardly. "I'm listening… It's just… Chi-Chi, how are babies made?"
"Uh…" Chi-Chi furrowed her brows in thought. After a long while, she too looked completely baffled. "Maybe we should go ask Bulma?"
Lin Qi couldn't help but shake his head. Wow, it's rare to find people this pure in the mortal world…
Musing on the absurdities of life, Lin Qi used Instant Transmission to return to the God of Destruction Realm.
As always, Whis stood by the man-made lake, gazing into the crystal orb on his staff, though it was never clear what exactly he was looking at.
"You're back? You were gone for so long—did you bring me anything good?" Whis turned around, smiling like a gentle spring breeze.
But when Lin Qi took out the rather ordinary desserts, Whis looked thoroughly unimpressed. "Such a letdown…"
"Can't be helped. I just went to enjoy the party a bit." Lin Qi replied calmly, setting the desserts down on a nearby stone stool.
Whis remained unmoved, still standing in place. But he had already put his staff away, his hands now clasped behind his back, expression turning unusually serious.
"Your mindset still isn't completely at peace. That'll hinder your cultivation, never mind achieving the pinnacle."
Lin Qi raised an eyebrow, noncommittal. "I think I'm pretty calm already… not much can get an emotional rise out of me."
Any calmer and he might as well shave his head and become a monk!
"Besides, if you're so peaceful, why are you still so obsessed with food?" Lin Qi asked as he watched Whis eyeing the desserts.
"Heh…" Whis chuckled, covering his mouth with his hand. His gaze suddenly turned icy as he looked at Lin Qi. "Feel like sparring with me?"
"Can I? The God of Destruction Realm might not hold up, and we'd wake up Beerus!" Lin Qi said this, but his eyes lit up with excitement.
"No need to worry about that. We'll go to a subdimension I created," Whis replied, not even touching the desserts as his staff reappeared in his hand.
With a wave of the staff, a rift to an alternate dimension opened.
In the endless darkness, two figures—one in white, one in orange—stood facing each other from afar.
As Lin Qi stood, shrouded in orange energy with multi-colored edges, Whis kept his hands behind his back, face calm as ever.
"You can unleash your full power. If you manage to land even a single hit on me, I'll count it as your win."
Lin Qi raised an eyebrow to confirm. "You mean actually hit you? Will you be using Ultra Instinct or your peak form?"
"What do you think?" Whis grinned mischievously. "I'm guessing even if I use just Ultra Instinct, you probably won't land a hit."
"Tch…" Lin Qi felt insulted. Without another word, he launched toward Whis.
This was Whis getting back at him for not bringing a real treat… and mocking his love of gourmet food?!
As the distance closed, Lin Qi didn't hold back in the slightest. His energy flared so brightly it lit up part of the void.
The speed at which he dashed forward tore the air apart with sheer force. His fist shot straight for Whis' face.
Swish!
Whis simply leaned back slightly.
So slightly, in fact, that it didn't even register as movement. And Lin Qi's punch missed.
Gritting his teeth, Lin Qi swung again.
Another miss—his punch grazed past Whis' cheek, but struck nothing. Lin Qi quickly retracted and launched a fresh barrage.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
His punches were sharp and fierce, a force to be reckoned with—but none of them touched Whis.
He couldn't even graze the edge of Whis' robe!
"I don't buy it…" Lin Qi clenched his jaw and began unleashing everything—punches and kicks flying in rapid succession.
"You must understand," Whis said cheerfully, still relaxed, "every difference in scale has to be calculated in units…"
"Scale?" Lin Qi paused mid-kick, looking at Whis in confusion. "Didn't we give up calculating power levels long ago?"
"You mean when power is suppressed or released, right?" Whis smiled faintly.
"That is impossible to calculate precisely—someone suppressing their power can easily pretend to fight evenly with someone much weaker."
"But really, most of the time we're calculating scale, not raw power levels." Whis waved his hand, and a beam of light shone from his staff.
