Casian turned sharply, gaze darkening. "How's Miranda? Still causing trouble in the dungeon?"
Darius sighed, his lips thinning. "Surprisingly calm. Too calm. But after what she pulled—threatening the guards, demanding release—I don't trust that silence. She's only behaving because the sedative hasn't worn off yet."
Cassian's jaw tensed.
He hadn't expected Miranda, of all people, to be caught meddling. And certainly not so soon. Her calm demeanor set him on edge more than if she had screamed.
"She's manipulative," Cassian muttered. "That kind of silence... it's the kind that brews chaos."
Darius nodded, folding his arms. "We'll be alerted if she makes a move," he assured, though he, too, remained on edge. Miranda's kind of quiet was never harmless.
Silence settled between them for a moment, the only sound being the soft crackle of the fire. Darius stole a glance at Cassian and caught the faraway look in his Alpha's eyes.
