For a long moment, they just stood there, frozen in place, staring at each other with wide eyes. Nadia's fingers loosened their grip on the trigger until the gun slowly lowered.
"Zara?" she breathed out, shocked. "What are you doing here?"
Zara cautiously dropped her hands, exhaling the breath she'd been holding. "I should be asking you that. What are you doing here?"
"I... I know someone here. The caretaker," Nadia replied, avoiding her eyes. Her tone was calm, but something in her face shifted quickly.
Zara let out a nervous laugh, squatting to steady her trembling knees. "For a moment, I thought I was about to get my head blown off."
"Well," Nadia said with a shrug, her voice regaining some playfulness. "You were trespassing."
Zara stood back up, brushing invisible dust from her pants. "Isn't this Willow Creek Farm? 237 Old Stone Hill Road, Bedford?"
Nadia chuckled. "Yeah. You even know the number."
"Well, surprise surprise... I own this property."
