Lorenzo and Ashley arrived at the station in just under twenty minutes. Ashley didn't waste a second—she scooped Bryan into her arms and rushed out of the car, the cool evening breeze brushing gently against her skin like a whisper of what was to come.
The sight of Ashley cradling Bryan stirred something deep in Lorenzo. He locked the car and quickly caught up.
"Babe, let me help you," he said, reaching out.
Ashley paused just long enough to pass Bryan into his arms, then they hurried inside.
Nicolas met them at the entrance and led them straight to the interrogation room where Kayla and Christian were waiting. Ashley's heart pounded with each step, her body tense with anticipation. Every cell ached to see Kayla and confirm, once and for all, that she had her child. Hope swelled inside her chest—so much it scared her. If this turned out to be another cruel disappointment, she wasn't sure she could take it.
