Chapter 72 - Chapter 72: Training

At the break of dawn, the first ray of sunlight rose over the ocean's surface as Silas and his Combusken ran together along the sandy beach.

"Focus on your breathing. Running on sand tires you out faster. Engage your glutes, hamstrings, hip flexors, and leg muscles properly," he instructed, jogging alongside.

"Pay attention to the angles when turning back adjust your body accordingly."

Although Pokémon could instinctively adapt their movements during regular training, it was usually a slow process. They couldn't instantly reach the most efficient and scientific form.

That's where a Trainer came in one of their key responsibilities was helping Pokémon adjust quickly, making their training and warm-ups more effective.

After about seven or eight back-and-forth sprints to warm up, Silas waved his hand to signal Combusken to continue on its own and made his way back to Minior.

The strong-legged Combusken happily dashed off, sprinting far ahead, kicking up sand behind it.

As Silas stepped into Roggenrola's gravitational field, he immediately felt pressure across his whole body including his internal organs being slightly compressed.

He tested it for a moment and nodded. Roggenrola's gravitational manipulation had improved noticeably. It looked like it would soon be time to begin Phase Two of its gravity training once it got close to evolving.

After giving a simple command for Roggenrola to train its gravity control for thirty minutes and then rest, Silas left it to its routine. Though Roggenroladidn't respond, Silas, who knew it well, was confident it had heard and understood. With that, he continued his own physical workout nearby.

Over thirty minutes passed before Pidgeot and Combusken, both done with their warm-ups, returned to the beach. Only then did Silas stop to assign their training for the day.

"Pidgeot, your task this morning is to focus on skill combinations. Fly low over the sea's surface, use Steel Wing or Wing Attack in combination with the wind pressure generated from your speed to part the water and create artificial waves. Then use Hurricane to spin that water and finish by slicing through it with Air Slash.

"If you encounter any natural high waves, try breaking through them with Brave Bird just like yesterday.

"Then we'll focus on confusing your opponents using Double Team and Substitute…"

Turning to Roggenrola: "Once you've rested, try using your ability Sand Force to sense the properties and movement of the sand. After all, sand is technically a type of rock.

"Use Sand Tomb to control a portion of the sand and improve your manipulation abilities. After that, we'll work on Stealth Rock…"

Finally, he looked at Combusken. "You're doing explosive power training today same as usual, just that we're switching the terrain to sand.

"Pay attention to the same points I mentioned during your run. Don't injure yourself focus your strength properly.

"You still need to improve the concentration of your Flamethrower and Fire Blast. The key lies in…"

"After that, Pidgeot will assist you in training with Heat Wave. Make sure to control the range precisely and manage the temperature well…"

After giving out all the training instructions for the morning, Silas was already a bit parched from talking nonstop.

He signaled Pidgeot to start its training farther away, then pulled out a bottle of water from his backpack and took a sip.

Combusken obediently fastened the explosive power training gear onto itself and began sprinting across the sandy field again and again.

Silas observed from the side and corrected a few minor mistakes. Once those were fixed, Combusken's power output became much more refined. From there on, it was just repetitive drills.

Changing into swim shorts, Silas headed to a calmer part of the sea and dove straight in for a swim.

Swimming helped him relax, promoted blood circulation, eased muscle strain, and improved cardiovascular endurance all without adding stress to his joints, since it involved the whole body but didn't require additional weight-bearing.

As the sun climbed higher and the air grew hotter, more people began arriving at the beach. Many of them were Trainers just like Silas, each accompanied by their Pokémon in training.

With unspoken understanding, everyone carved out their own space to train.

The previously quiet environment was now becoming more lively and noisy. Commands and instructions from Trainers to their Pokémon could be faintly heard in every direction.

Different training styles stemmed from different personal habits. Silas preferred to assign all tasks in one go and allow his Pokémon to train on their own.

Others, however, chose to stay beside their Pokémon, breaking down the training step by step, carefully guiding them through each move.

Time during training passed quickly. In what felt like the blink of an eye, the sun that had just risen now hung high in the sky.

It was springtime, yet the temperature already felt rather hot.

After finishing his swim, Silas dried himself off, pulled out items from his backpack, and began preparing lunch for his three Pokémon. The afternoon's training would be just as grueling and repetitive.

As a Trainer, one of his most important responsibilities was ensuring logistical support.

It's hard to define the relationship between a Trainer and their Pokémon. It's something between a partnership, friendship, and even family but no matter how you classify it, their bond remained strong.

The scent of meals and life began to fill the air as more Trainers and their Pokémon sat down to eat on the beach. Replenishing energy and stamina was an essential step on the path to strength.

As the sun dipped into the west and the waves rolled in once more, Silas called Combusken and Roggenrola back to his side.

Most of the less experienced Trainers had already begun to pack up and leave. They knew their Pokémon couldn't handle what was coming.

Some stubborn Trainers who had ignored warnings and tried to brave it anyway had already been swept into the sea, their fates uncertain as they drifted off with the ocean currents.

This scene wasn't suitable for Combusken and Roggenrola to remain in, but Silas didn't recall them into their Poké Balls. He wanted them to witness Pidgeot's confrontation with the power of nature.

It would help them solidify their desire to become stronger. After all, the pursuit of strength could come from instinct or a genetic craving for safety but that motivation often wasn't enough.

As a Trainer, Silas needed to give them a clear goal to aim for.

Once they evolved into their final forms, Silas believed they could accomplish feats just like Pidgeot.

Sure enough, watching Pidgeot's courageous form, Combusken's eyes seemed to shine with light. Even the usually silent Roggenrola let out a rare cry as it sensed what was happening around it.

Within Silas's team, Pidgeot was both the eldest and the strongest, so he naturally assumed the role of "big brother," looking after the other two Pokémon with care.

Smiling faintly, Silas turned to Combusken and Roggenrola. "You feel it, don't you? Someday, you'll be just as powerful and even stronger."

"Combus..!"

"Rogge..!"

Their voices were full of longing and excitement.

After a long day of exhausting training, Silas brought his three Pokémon back to the Pokémon Center and asked Nurse Joy to help them recover.

Only during that time did he finally get a rare moment to breathe and rest. Around him sat several other Trainers in the same weary state as he was.

For real Trainers, there's no such thing as an easy, fantasy-like life.
