Chapter 24 - Chapter 24

After some time, Kaylee finished eating the portion of food she was provided with. She even managed to sit for a while and put the ice pack against her face.

She became rather bored quickly, and didn't understand why the people in the mansion continued to leave her alone time and time again. It was rather odd, to say the least.

Nevertheless, Kay decided that she didn't want to continue to sit there looking oblivious. She wanted to see where she was and who these people actually were.

Were they Ivaandar's family? Who was this Yami person? Was he someone who was the boss around here? Was she inside some mafia family organization and couldn't leave alive?

Thoughts raced inside her mind before she slowly rose to her feet, feeling her legs become firmer and giving her the ability to walk sufficiently.

Turning her head towards the doorway, she grabbed the silver platter and placed it back on the table. Exhaling a bit of air, she walked towards the door and leaned her ear against it.

Making sure no one was by the doorway when she opened it, she twisted the door handle and cracked it enough to look out. Her brown hues shifting left and right, and not seeing a single soul in sight.

Kaylee quickly opened the door entirely and walked out of the living room area. Measuring her eyes to the hallways, long and narrow paths. She didn't know which direction she should take.

The massive stairwell that was in the middle of the mansion, or perhaps take this pathway that seemed to go elsewhere. Options, that she didn't know which to choose, until she heard noises.

Without thinking, she decided to take the latter and rush down the pathway, hearing the footsteps approaching. She made sure to close the living room door back, in hopes that the people would assume she was still inside.

Quietly and carefully, she would walk down the hallway, which seemed like some spooky mansion. The long red carpet suppressed her movements a bit.

Admiring the wallpaper, the statues, the paintings, and the carvings around the place. She was in a bit of an awe moment, as this reminded her of her goth personality era.

Something she wished she could forget about now and then, as back then, she was unhinged and unfiltered. Suddenly, Kaylee could see a room she was approaching and stumbled into it.

Opening the door and noticing a library-type room, with another fireplace, some chairs, and a massive piano. The windows showed that it was still raining outside, but compared to before, it had softened.

Kaylee grinned a bit, seeing the piano, as she always loved this instrument growing up. She remembered her grandfather being quite the pianist back in the day.

Of course, she always wanted to learn by herself, but unfortunately, she wasn't very good at it. Her brown eyes shifted towards the bookshelves, and she walked over and examined them.

Seeing different genres, titles, and interesting topics to review. ' Blood rituals? ' she thought in her mind while reading one of the book titles on the shelf.

Her hand reached out to grab it, as she pulled it from its place and looked at the black and red book. It was odd, and she didn't know what library would have something like this.

She tried to open it but heard more commotion outside the room. Immediately, she panicked and placed the book back before stumbling and losing her balance.

" Ah … Shhhh— " She wanted to scream and curse, but muffled herself by biting her lip hard to keep her silent.

After a while, the noise on the outside seemed to disperse as she quickly got to her feet again. This room didn't seem to be the safest, so she made her way out of the room again and explored more.

She came across many rooms, many pathways, and finally reached the massive grand kitchen. Stainless steel stove tops, that had two double-door fridges, two electric stoves, and tons of counter space.

This felt like a dream kitchen to Kaylee, as she couldn't believe her eyes, as she went to one of the fridges and opened it. Seeing nothing inside it, as she arched a brow.

" …. They don't eat? " She softly whispered to herself, as she closed the door behind her, not realizing once she did, someone was standing in the kitchen watching her.

Kaylee went to the other fridge, grabbed one of the handles, and was about to open this one the person observing her finally spoke.

" Find everything to your liking? " Ivaander asked her, which made Kaylee jump and feel a shock like tingling inside her body.

Ivaander had changed again, but this time he wasn't wearing formal or business attire; it was something simple. Wearing nothing but some dark blue leather pants with a muscular, tightly fitted tank top.

On his left arm at the top was a band wrapped around, with that same dazzling, priceless necklace that Kaylee had seen before. A black choker belt around his neck and two belts around his waistline that connected to his pants.

Black solid belted shoes that matched his attire, as he folded his arms across his chest, eyeing Kaylee from afar. Kaylee felt her heart pounding as she held onto her chest.

"I… I'm…" She tried to explain, only to find she had no excuse, and she was also afraid for her life at this point.

"Sorry?" Ivaander would chime in to speak, as his arms dropped to his side, and he slowly walked step by step towards her.

Kaylee couldn't help but see his tone and muscular body, as it seemed to be distracting her. Typically, women's behavior, she told herself, but with Ivaander, she couldn't help but stare.

"Well— I…" She continued to try and say, while trying to find a smile and chuckle a bit, only to find herself about to slip and fall.

Ivaander, within a flash it seems quickly caught her, wrapping his arms around her body, causing her to wrap hers around his neck. In a blink, Kaylee's eyes seemed to be stunned.

Unable to know how fast he caught her, it was like it was in the blink of an eye. Kaylee also noticed something as well, that his eyes changed once again, and they were blue.

The two of them stared at one another once again, before Kaylee was about to mention the color, that was until she literally watched them change in that moment.

It would seem Ivaander wasn't paying attention, as in an instant, like water washing away the color, they soon turned pink. Kaylee's mouth dropped in her mind, as she watched with her own eyes them shifting.

Ivaander slowly rose her towards her feet, as his tone sounded calm and concerned.

"Are you alright?"

"…..I'm…fine…" Kaylee would say half paying attention, as she was still shocked by his sudden eye-changing powers.

Ivaander finally picked up what she was looking at, blinked a few times, and turned his back towards her briefly before turning back around.

"I—umm… I have contacts in." He told her.

"They umm… they shift—" He was continuously trying to say as Kaylee continued to walk closer and closer towards him before the gap between them was closed.

Ivaander, seeing how close she was towards him, as the two of them were almost the same height, Ivaander being only an inch shorter than her. Kaylee shook her head slowly at his words and softly touched his arm.

"I… saw it…"

Ivaander, listening to her, couldn't help but notice she seemed calm and also certain. Kaylee kept eye contact with his own eyes as she repeated herself once more.

"I… saw…. What are you…?"

Ivaander, hearing the question, quickly removed himself from her grasp and looked down at the ground briefly. He tried his best to compose himself before looking over at her again.

"….If you value your safety….. You won't ever ask me that again." Ivaander would speak in a firmer and distant tone.

Although when he said that, his eyes changed again, and this time, they turned that deadly, demonic reddish color. Kaylee watched the shift as Ivaander broke eye contact with her and walked away.

She could hear him speaking to someone, but his tone sounded more masculine and hard, and his accent was still there. He shouted to someone, saying she's in the kitchen.

To Kaylee, she didn't know what to say, do, or feel at this moment. The only thing she did know was that she had never been more heartbroken and devastated by someone's words until now.
