The morning sun casts its soft golden radiance on the broad road warmly embracing all creatures underneath its ray, there were pedestrians hurrying along the road each minding their business while some stopped to greet each other from time to time.
Nyxir was walking by the side of the dusty road with Olivia tagging along her face brimming with smiles, Nyxir in a casual brown shirt and faded jeans walked silently by the side, his shadow extending towards the bush by the side of the road. His face was plain and tranquil, making it hard to guess his thoughts.
As for Olivia, she was so happy that she was almost skipping in joy if not for the fact that it would not be courteous, she would have really skipped all the way to the district's house, she has a strong enough self awareness to not skip along the road.
It was Tuesday, the day of the awakening and the assessment of new Diviners, Old Lu had given them some coppets to buy some cheap elixir if needed and also for transportation but the siblings decided to save themselves some money and just walked all they way to the district's house.
It was not their first time heading to the city on foot anyways and the ceremony was bound to start at noon which still gives them plenty of time to swagger their way to the district's house.
"What do you think you will awaken?" Olivia asked Nyxir again for the tenth time. She has been chatting happily discussing her desired aspects hoping to awaken a celestial blood which is the divinity of an Angel aspect and was also eagerly pestering Nyxir to tell her about his desired aspects.
It was common knowledge that the divinity in humans comes in the form of light and darkness these are the two classes of divinity, but there was bound to be one more strong than the other in an individual, this one is the dominant divinity while the other less strong one will be suppressed and is known as recessive or suppressed divinity.
The divinity awakened by a human can also be divided into six types of aspects three of which belong to either light or darkness. The three types which belong to light are; Angel, Saint and Sealer while the three which belong to darkness are; Devil, Demon and Hunter.
The angels awaken a celestial blood from their divinity which merges into their body and acts as their source of power, the sealers unlock a divine seal which entwines their soul protecting them from mental corruption and also imbuing them with knowledge of sealing, it is also a very powerful and tricky tool, the saints squire a saint bone which is also their source of power, the hunters aquire an ancient bloodline which strengthens their body and give them incredible agility, the demon owns a core and devil and abyssal soul.
Both demons and devils are only known for their cores and abyssal souls, there is almost nothing else known about them as they are really rare especially the devils and they are also known as maniacs who tend to destroy and kill making them enemies of the entire world. Almost nobody has fought a devil and lived to tell the tale as for demons, they tend to be more careful and are less bloodthirsty so people still get along with them in some places as they are also needed in the balance of power but they also rarely fights as their skills lean towards stalking and haunting.
"I don't know yet, I have many aspects I will love to awaken so I will just go for any one that shows up in my soul." Nyxir replied to Olivia while rolling his eyes.
He would love to awaken the sealing aspect but how would he tell Olivia why he chose the sealer's aspect, she can be very inquisitive which is a bother to Nyxir.
Sealers are known for their sealing talents and are weak in terms of combat, so people tend to not want to unlock the sealing aspect although they are well sought and are often very successful, they still require protection from others which might not end up well with regard to human's greed.
But Nyxir had lived a third of his life as a sealer and is already well versed in numerous techniques and arrays so it will be easy for him if he gets a sealing aspect as to a new sealer.
"You want to awaken many aspects, Hugh? Dream on"
Olivia eyed Nyxir playfully before returning to her fantasy enthusiastically sometimes Nyxir can be boring and she did not want him to ruin her good mood.
"If I awaken an Angel aspect, I will be even more graceful and my movement will be more refined and polished." She quipped joyfully as she waved her hand elegantly in the air.
Nyxir shook his head slightly as he looked at the passerby who were gazing at them from time to time, some had amused expressions and some had a knowing smile, showing that they were aware of today's awakening ceremony.
The angel's aspect is one of the powerful aspects among the other six, it is a spiritual power based aspect and does not excel in physical brawl because they tend to possess a weak body like that of an ordinary person. Their power lies in spell casting, healing and purification, and their celestial blood makes them more radiant and beautiful. Many young ladies wanted the angel aspects because of the beautifying attributes and luckily, it is a powerful aspect at high sequence as well so people tend to refer to it as a perfect aspect.
They walked briskly under the scorching sun and never felt any fatigue or burns while Olivia kept filling the slightly annoyed Nyxir on her fantasy enthusiastically.
' Her talk really helped me get off recent worries, I have not thought about any of my mishaps since setting off '
' I think she really helped unintentionally though '
' Who knew she really had this side to her as well? '
Nyxir had studied Olivia for the three days they had been together and from the memories of the previous host, she was a very diligent and caring girl often preferring Nyxir to have the best before she settled her own. Unlike other girls of her age, she would always buy more food rather than clothes and shoes just to ensure the family has enough to eat with the spare money that was allocated to her.
Old Lu had tried getting her to stop several times urging her to save some money for herself but she will still eventually go and buy food when Old Lu isn't looking.
' Both Nyxir and Olivia have their way of showing their kindness, they must have gotten it from Mrs Marian. '
' Unfortunately, I didn't meet her so I don't know the kind of person she was , '
' But seeing Olivia and seeing what Nyxir had been doing, I think it is obvious '
' why did I think that? '
' Old Lu is kind too right? He is also not completely known by the former host or I would have grasped everything about him'
" We are here!"
Olivia's enthusiastic shrill jerked him back to reality and he looked up to see a big city at the front with wide coated road.
The city's edge looked like it was stopped midway form expanding outward with no gate at the front which made it look like they suddenly found themselves in a bustling city after walking all day.
This had also been a concern for many people who had moved out of the city previously to farm in the bush including the traders who were also worried about the Beru market.
The sun was already overhead by the time they got there and there were patrol officers in a black long sleeved shirt and pant ironed neatly and a shinny black leather shoes which leaves jagged prints on the untarred road by the city's border, they each had an epaulet on their left shoulder to show their rank which only consist of a single silver star an indication of the sergeant rank.
They were always stationed there to keep tramps from entering the city and also to prevent criminals from escaping through the border. The officer at the front looked at the two kids walking towards them.
By now there was only Nyxir and Olivia left on the broad road making them eye-catching form afar. The city rarely had visitors from outside coming in unless for something important which is not very common as those who chose to stay outside were mostly the less privileged people who had no assets and chose to farm in the bush or sell their wares at the Beru market.
"What are you two here for?" The stern looking officer inquired as they got to a hearing distance.
They do this in order to be able to react to unexpected situations should there be an ulterior motive behind a visit and they expect the visitor to also state their motive before coming closer.
It should be unnecessary as they were just two kids walking alone from afar but people who live in the city tend to regard those outside as barbarians and treating them like one does not earn any repremand or merit, they only just do it for fun to lift their moods from the long day's patrol.
Olivia already experienced, raised her hand and signalled to Nyxir to do the same then walked two steps forward.
"We are here for the awakening ceremony" Olivia spoke plainly stopping two steps in front of Nyxir.
"You can come closer" the officer waved finding it a bore to tease young children.
Nyxir and Olivia walked towards the patrolling officer who looked at them and waved gesturing for them to proceed.
If they had come for other things the officer might still be interested in teasing them but there was a rumor about a boy from the outskirts who got teased by an officer and eventually awaken a powerful aspect, he was invited by a powerful organization and that organization relived the officer of his post in order to earn a more favorable impression from the boy and the officer was later found dead. This had all made the patrolling officers a little docile as they don't know the identity of the visitor.
Nyxir and Olivia stepped on the tarred wide road which marks the beginning of the city and both exhaled.
