Mia frowned. She asked in a soft voice, "Why would you say that?"
"Because, do you even know who was the one who ordered that man to attack you?" Lucas asked in a soft voice. His voice was even, but there was a sort of fragile harshness within it.
When Mia shook her head, Lucas smiled at her. Though he didn't say a word, Mia had a feeling that he was looking at her with a hint of mockery. She heard him say, "It was his aunt, Mrs Holman's dear sister. I believe that my dearest cousin Gloria was not pleased after being kicked out of the store."
When Mia heard his response, she sucked in a breath. Her heart turned cold as if a set of chilled fingers had curled themselves around it. She naturally knew who this aunt was that Lucas was talking about. She released a shaky breath and muttered, "How…how can they do this?"
"The answer is quite simple, princess. Because they can." Lucas's words were like a harsh slap which brought Mia to reality.
