I still couldn't arrive at a reason good enough to understand why Anita had sent me to the border, of all places. There were other departments I could have worked at in the mansion here, or even far from the mansion, like the company's factory, but she was sending me all the way to the border.
For what reason?
Nevertheless, it wasn't like standing around thinking about her reason would change anything. Nothing would change Anita's mind, and nothing would make Derrick decide to stand up for me now.
For some reason, I believed that Derrick would change his mind and come back to ask me to stay. Well, he did need someone he could punish and totally ruin. And who else would be perfect for the role if not me?
I shook my head. There was no way I would give Derrick the leeway to come to me and order me to stay.
I was undoubtedly Derrick's property, but truthfully, I wasn't some emotional punching bag.
