Chapter 80 - 80

The silver construct was struck by a green beam, smashing into the ceiling. It remained fixed there for two seconds before falling.

The golden construct leaped up swiftly, its claw seizing the silver construct's head. It landed on an empty space to the side, smashing its head fiercely against the ground—

If the silver construct had simply fallen like that, it might have damaged the Gribartto magic crystal. That was all Dana's now, and he couldn't bear the thought.

The silver construct tried to struggle to its feet, but the golden construct had already plunged its claws deep into the helmet, yanking out the green flame inside—

Possessing the golden construct, Dana was intimately familiar with its structure and core mechanisms, so he naturally knew how to deal with it.

This green flame was both the construct's core and its means of attack, but ordinary people had no way to extract the flame because not everyone could withstand such high temperatures.

Once the green flame was separated from the construct, it immediately ceased its violent rampage and became quiet.

Dana reached into his own golden construct's helmet and pulled out the green flame as well—

With the green flame leaving his body, Dana immediately lost control of the construct, because he had been possessing the flame itself rather than the metallic frame.

This green flame was the so-called "creature."

Dana separated from the flame and returned to his human form.

The two balls of green flame floated toward him, circling and dancing joyfully.

[Master! Congratulations on passing the trial.]

[I am Abe.]

[I am Hood.]

[We are the Gribartto Fire Spirits created by the old master!]

So—this was Merlin's ancestor's trial, and also a gift?

The two constructs were made of unknown material, seemingly indestructible; and these Fire Spirits could attach themselves to various metal objects, controlling their movement and unleashing high-temperature rays. The only drawback was that they needed Gribartto magic crystals as their energy source.

Heh, only Dana in this world could afford such extravagant "pets" now.

Abe and Hood circled in the air for a moment before unexpectedly darting toward Dana's eyes.

In a flash, both spirits had entered Dana's pupils.

Dana wasn't alarmed—when he had possessed the fire spirit earlier, he learned they could hide within a wizard's eyes.

He only felt a wave of warmth, extremely comfortable.

Dana brought his face close to a Gribartto magic crystal. The crystal's polished surface reflected his appearance—

His original lake-green eyes now glowed with a more vivid hue, faintly encircled by a soft green halo.

Tsk, wasn't this a little too flashy?

As if sensing their master's thoughts, the fire spirits concealed themselves deeper, and Dana's eyes returned to normal.

He then stored the gold and silver constructs into his necklace and nodded in satisfaction.

Today's harvest was beyond expectation.

No wonder his Golden Finger had scolded him for being an idiot. If he had explored the tapestry's secret the moment he retrieved it, he could've obtained everything here a year earlier!

A year!

If he'd rested within this concentrated magical environment for a year, his Cambion bloodline might've already broken through to the third level—perhaps even granting him a glimpse into the future!

Dana let out a breath of turbid air, opened a Spandim Gate, and summoned his entire bed from the dormitory—

Yes, he was going to sleep here tonight!

Not just tonight. From now on, this would be his dormitory!

… …

… …

Tom Riddle—or rather, the little diary—was feeling a bit depressed.

He had finally coaxed Ginny Weasley into opening her heart and had controlled her to open the Chamber of Secrets, but the basilisk was nowhere to be found.

So he had no choice but to use Ginny's body to attack Muggle-born wizards. But what use was the magic power of an eleven-year-old? The Avada Kedavra cast by little Ginny only gave the mudblood a nosebleed and knocked them unconscious for a night!

So he decisively changed hosts. Gilderoy Lockhart was a good candidate—an adult wizard, though his reputation far exceeded his ability, and even the professors and students had started to see through him.

It had gone as expected.

After Ginny placed him in Lockhart's office, the diary used a makeshift mix of the Imperius Curse and Obliviate—empowered by half the life force stolen from Ginny—to place Lockhart under his control.

Ginny would return to her dormitory in a daze, remembering nothing of what had happened. Aside from feeling weak and sick, no one suspected anything.

And Lockhart would become his new tool!

His plan: eliminate all Muggle-borns at Hogwarts, then use Lockhart's life force to resurrect himself!

Oh, and of course, he needed to figure out how Harry Potter had managed to kill his adult self! That question still plagued the diary's mind.

But things, once again, didn't go as planned—

Lockhart's spellwork was astonishingly terrible. He was even worse than a first-year in some basic areas!

What was even more shocking was that although he had high precision in casting (his Obliviate proficiency showed that), his overall magic reserves were pathetic—probably not much greater than Ginny Weasley's!

How had this man survived in the wizarding world so far? And so prosperously, at that?

If he continued to use Lockhart to kill Muggle-borns, he wouldn't get much further than he had with Ginny!

What should he do—erase their memories with Obliviate instead?

Sure, he could turn them into idiots, but that wasn't nearly punishment enough for those who defiled the sacred halls of magic!

So the diary devised a short-term compromise:

He would continue eroding Lockhart's consciousness and steal his life force as quickly as possible. In the meantime, Lockhart had to fulfill his duties as a professor. The mere thought of teaching this idiot made Tom feel like pulling his hair out—

Well, if he still had a body.

Once enough life force had been gathered, he would simply find a new host.

And for now, he could use Lockhart's status to gather intel—especially about how Harry Potter had managed to defeat his future self.

"Mr. Riddle, isn't there any spell that can make me stronger instantly? This Disarming Charm still feels off when I use it!"

[Lockhart, what you need is practice. Your magical skills have decayed too severely. Even your magic reserves have deteriorated to a pitiful state. Only through relentless practice can you regain your former power.]

"Oh, that sounds dreadful, Mr. Riddle."

"How about this: when I'm teaching class, can you take over my body? With your strength, you'd definitely impress the students!"

The diary was speechless.

What was wrong with Hogwarts these days? How had they allowed this guy to become the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor?

Had Dumbledore gone senile?

But… guest-starring as the DADA professor?

The little diary was suddenly intrigued—

Yes, if someone like Gilderoy Lockhart could be a professor, then why not Tom Riddle?

He, who had already taken his first step toward immortality, deserved it far more!

[Very well. I accept your offer.]

Becoming a professor… wasn't such a bad idea.

It would make his search for a new host far easier.

Muggle-borns, beware!

Your nightmare has returned!
