Chapter 22 - Chapter 7: The Line Between Hope and Darkness

---

Scene 1: The Mysterious Voice

Leon woke in the middle of the night, gasping for air.

His hand clutched his chest—his dream had shaken him.

But this wasn't just a dream.

> "Leon…"

A voice echoed in his ears—soft, familiar, yet unplaceable.

> "Umbra again?" he whispered to himself, cautiously.

But this time… it felt different.

Not threatening. Not cold.

Almost... like a warning.

> "I need to go outside."

Leon quickly dressed and stepped out into the dark street.

The city still lay beneath a veil of shadow, unnatural and oppressive.

Even the air pulsed with strange energy.

To his surprise, Seraphine and Elliot were already awake.

> "You felt something too?" Elliot asked, blades at his side.

Leon nodded grimly.

> "Someone's calling me. And I have to find out who."

Scene 2: The Forgotten Temple

The trio moved beyond the city, into the outskirts. The further they went, the heavier the atmosphere became—thick, ancient, foreboding.

Eventually, they arrived at a set of crumbling ruins—an ancient, forgotten temple.

Even the air here felt weighted by centuries of silence.

> "This place… must've been abandoned long ago," Seraphine said, her voice hushed.

Leon scanned the area, something inside him stirring with intensity.

> "There's something here…"

He walked deeper into the ruins, where old carvings marked the worn stone walls.

> "It's... an ancient script," he murmured, running his fingers across the symbols.

Seraphine leaned closer.

> "These markings—they speak of Umbra and… you."

Leon tensed.

> "What does that even mean?"

Before she could respond—

The ground began to shake violently.

> "Get back!" Elliot yelled.

From beneath the stone, a thick black mist erupted, engulfing them in shadow.

Scene 3: The Step of Darkness

From the swirling fog, a silhouette began to form.

It wasn't like the shadow creatures from before.

No. This one was something far worse.

Its eyes glowed with eerie light.

Its very presence carried the scent of death.

Leon felt his heartbeat quicken. The creature radiated overwhelming power.

> "Who… are you?" Leon demanded.

The being smiled darkly.

> "I am the emissary of Umbra's shadows. I've been waiting for you, Leon."

A sharp spike of anger surged through Leon.

> "I don't know you!"

The creature chuckled softly.

> "But you will. In time, you'll become like me."

Leon stepped forward, resolute.

> "That will never happen!"

The emissary laughed.

> "We'll see."

And with a sudden motion, it attacked.

Leon fought back, summoning his light to counterstrike—but his power barely scratched it.

> "Not enough, Leon," the creature hissed.

"You'll need more than light."

Leon gritted his teeth, a strange sensation rising in his chest…

Something deeper.

Something darker.

Almost like a whisper from inside himself.

Scene 4: Umbra's Design

Far away, watching from the shadows, Umbra observed the chaos unfold.

A sly smile curved his lips.

> "He's walking toward me... step by step."

His plan was unfolding perfectly.

> "The more Leon fights, the stronger he becomes… and with every step, he inches closer to the darkness."

Umbra raised a single finger toward the sky—and flicked it gently.

The entire ground beneath the temple shook violently.

Leon and his team were thrown to the floor.

> "What is this?!" Elliot shouted.

Seraphine looked up, fear in her eyes.

> "He's unleashing more of his power…"

Leon stood slowly, face set with determination.

> "I won't let him win."

But deep inside… doubt crept in.

Can I really resist this darkness?
