"Dad, please!" Emma screamed again, voice cracking.
But Morris turned his head away, like the sight of Jean's pain was an inconvenience.
"This incident must not leave this property," he said quietly, firmly. "Do you understand what this could do to our name?"
Emma's mouth parted in shock. "Dad…"
"I won't repeat myself. Take her to the hospital. Be discreet."
"You cold-hearted…" Emma bit back the rest of her scream, tears welling up.
Behind them, Alex stood with a smug smile on his face.
"You will pay for this," Emma growled at him, voice low and furious.
Just then, Hannah ran back… face wet with tears, her phone still in hand. "I called Logan," she whispered, breathless, "he's on his way."
Without waiting, she slipped an arm under Jean's uninjured side. "Let's get her out of here."
Jean… half-dazed but upright… nodded weakly. "Get me… out of this hell."
Emma helped on the other side.
"Hannah," she ordered, "you drive. Now."
